Excellent pictures! I could imagine that you could produce very swell pictures as well with cheap zoom lenses, but the lenses which you showed are all top notch, especially the 300mm and 400mm f/2.8 have a long history of being amongst the sharpest available lenses you can buy.
Thank you. The photos from Madagascar were taken with a an entry level DSLR D5100 and a 55-200mm kit lens. I agree some of the photos would be possible with a slow 5.6 zoom lens but the out of focus background or foreground would not be the same. The 300 and 400 2.8 are both great lenses and used to be expensive. The thing is, sometimes we love new gears but new lens like the 180-600mm is more expensive than used 300mm 2.8 vr ii 😯.
Your presentation is perfect! I have indeed a 80-200mm AF-D 2.8 and I am keeping it mostly for zoo photography or duck photography (they are not very afraid by humans at the lake). On a D500, the reach is also extended. There is an AF-S version which will autofocus on Z lenses which costs around 400 used. No VR though, so the IBIS would come handy, or a monopod as you explain rightly.
