    If someone has a pattern of continually “misunderstanding” you, there’s a good chance you’re getting manipulated. You could end up talking yourself in circles which will be draining, harm your mental health, and make you too emotional so that you can’t think clearly. Many people like this are no different at their core than people who are OPENLY verbally and physically abusive, they’re just more sneaky about it, and there’s a good chance that the physical and/or verbal (aka overt) abuse is on its way. Covert abuse is very hard to spot

    One obvious emotional black mail is "if you love me you'll do it" over something trivial. It's the adult version of "if you don't do this when we're not friends anymore." It just shows how little they value your relationship if they're willing to throw everything away so easily.

      Theoretical reply to "if you love me you'll do it" : Fine. I won't do it. It's so painful loving you, I don't love you anymore. Now suck it up and get out of my life! Never mind, I'll get myself out of your life. Bye.

    Another way to deal with emotional blackmail is to ignore it. This is not about becoming cold and uncaring. It's about staying inside your head and taking care of your feelings. You can care about someone else's feelings, but you cannot take care of their feelings👍

    • @noworneversoulbeach
      @noworneversoulbeach 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@kennethaylott4529 if you missed the red flags for it to get to that point what were you doing? Follow your intuition not anxiety, manipulators use fear to get what they want from people. If you can intuitively feelin what situation you want to happen not what you don’t want to happen then logically come up with a plan that’s 2 steps ahead of them. Then you can get outta any situation. You have to have faith in yourself or you’ll be stuck and the longer you stay the harder it’ll be to get away and the more time it will take to emotionally heal from the abuse afterward. Differentiate intuition from anxiety and move cautiously. Don’t think about revenge or anything like that, you want to get AWAY not get back at them. They’ll play off your feelings so don’t give them any, respond to the situation don’t react and if that’s hard then you have to train yourself to do that because that’s going to help you in life not just one situation.

    My ex-boyfriend is the last type, the sufferer. He used to get what he wants from me by saying how unhappy he will be if we wouldn't do what he wanted to do. Couple months after the break up we started texting every now and then as friends and I tried to cut it off because it made me feel uncomfortable somehow but he said how unhappy he will be if we don't have contact anymore and even said he gets suicidal if he knows we don't have contact. I called him out on his behavior now that we are not together anymore and repeatedly said that his happiness is not my problem. It's his work to do to stay happy without the need of some other person to fill the void. Now we have contact again but on my terms and if he ever should complain again how I am not responding enough or something I'm gone for good.

    Self-analysis reassurance Hat trick today: this lead me to look up my attachment style because both my parents do this. I didn't understand why exercising independence was helping me alone and reaching out tended to lead to dependence until I learned about "disorganized attachment", which put together why I have a hard time trusting people but desperately need to ^^. So the work I've been doing for myself the past 2 years is consistent with how to handle that.
    This also taught me some ways my dad operates, and my mom, and some habits I could gave learned from them that I should look out for as I move forward in my life. So I feel validated that the honesty I'm developing with myself is paying off.
    And the 3rd goal i scored from this, I learned some tactics for both of my parents. My mom plays waterworks A LOT and says I never do enough for her because I don't see her. My dad demands an imidiate answer when I say I can't do something, like "what are you even doing with your life", or "your career didn't work out, why do you think it will work now? (Mostly him telling me that I'll "never be an illustrator" every time I applied for a job outside the county or did something that wasn't his advice lol) ". Telling me that I never do anything responsible... I can't kick his ass to the curb because I live with him, but I just learned a few ways to assert myself and separate from him. I may also be surprised to find some empathy if I tell him how he makes me feel (doubt it tho). As for my divorced mom who lives in an apartment she never leaves with narcissism and bpd who doesn't contribute anything I need, I can tell her to screw off. So I have gained awareness of my triggers and both of their tactics over the past year.
    A long winded, open-book, THANK YOU! For psyche2go :)

    past friends / people ive been in situationships with have used some personal information that I disclosed at a vulnerable time as ammunition when we get into arguments. They would bring things up that had NOTHING to do with the conversation / argument. Emotional blackmail is honestly the worst :(

    I response to emotional blackmail by ignoring it. I'm so done that i casually ignored emotional blackmail from someone.
