I believe that the reason the Dagon took the form of a Dragon, was to inspire more fear and helplessness. Sure a giant squid from the sky is scary, but tales of fire breathing dragons should have been spoken of more during those times.
I was thinking the same thing. It took the form of the dragon to strike fear and maybe it took a "Kraken"/ squid form as another way of trying to strike fear in its victims.
14:44 Just like real life medieval knights did. In addition to their main weapon they would always carry a small knife/dagger called misericorde, named after french word miséricorde, wich means "mercy". They wouldn't use it to fight, but only outside of the battle, for so called "mercy killing" (thus the name) to finish off any critically wounded. Here, the dagger is being used for execution as if in the forever knights code squire must let himself be killed. That's why the dagger - because he isn't supposed to fight back, and if there is no fight, there is no need to use combat weapon.
I get what you're trying to say, but the way this comment was written made me think 'real-life medieval knights also had regular metal knives instead of laser blades.'
@@christopherwebster6354 I'm just taking the real life knights and talking about their customs to see how that relates to the show, to maybe suggest an explenation seeing as Forever Knights started off as regular knights with regular swords as well. And there is no reason to upgrade a weapon used to execute, seeing as you don't use it to fight. As long as it can slice a throat, it's good enough.
If it were up to me, I would have replaced Eatle in this episode with Shocksquatch. For those who watched Heroes United, it's a special treat to see an alien from the crossover appear in the main show (like with Nanomech or Way Big). They'll know what he can do, so it adds more impact to Vilgax's power-up when Shocksquatch goes down. For those who missed HU, it's a new transformation, giving the same effect as Eatle. It could also encourage them to check out the crossover he appeared in to learn more about him. The crew had a design for him, they just needed to adapt him into the usual UA style. Eatle could then make a better first impression, rather than his debut being him getting wiped.
That wouldn’t work because of the ambiguity of when HU takes place so the audience would have been introduced to Shocksquatch before watching his debut
We see later that George was seemingly immortal before getting the sword, already being 300 years old. To explain that, we can just assume either magic or he's a mutant
Azmuth said he (George) was *"nine hundred-Earth-years-old"* when he (Azmuth) met him (George) in the next episode. George even said he was born in the year Two Thirty-One AD, *"nearly a millennium ago."*
18:13 Since Dagon is based on Lovecraftian horrors, I'd like to think he's purposefully becoming the embodiment of the soldiers' fear. The dragon in the story of St. George is meant to represent Satan. And the battle between Dagon and St. George is implied to be truly vile. I can imagine the soldiers getting driven to insanity and mania, by Dagon weakening their psyches with voices and hallucinations, and then preying on their religious fear and guilt. But that's just fanfiction at this point. I just think it's neat.
The dynamic between the trio gives me life, they care about each other and after all they have been through, they aren't afraid to speak their mind to their leader. All of it, the emotion, the stakes, the consequences, it's so much, I'm so proud of how far they have come.
I really like how serious this episode is, to the point that it's almost depressing at times, like the scene where Gwen is literally traumatized by being mind controlled by Dagon, or Kevin grabbing Ben and yelling at him. Also, this is the only episode in Ultimate Alien, where Vilgax uses one of his Alien Force powers.
WAIT WHAT???? you got xander mobus to help with the motion comic?? that’s so cool. for people who don’t know, he’s the guy who voices the smash announcer and joker from persona 5. that’s really cool. i’m genuinely impressed.
My belief is that Dagon chooses the form of what would scare humanity the most. In the 21st century the animal that'd scare people the most would probably be a gigantic squid because of how unexplored the ocean is, and because of the recent surge in thalasaphobia. In the middle ages the animal that would scare humans the most would have unquestionably been a dragon.
I rewatched this episode yesterday and it felt like the 22 min run time didn't do the premise justice but this and the next episode especially are certified bangers
im pretty sure the animation style in the George backstory is a referrence to Disney's sleeping beauty, it'd explain the dragon dagon form looking the way it does, because it's supposed to look like maleficent at the end when she transforms into a dragon
George's life is absolutely not bound to the sword of askalon. It seemed to be the plan at first, but then we found out he was already alive for centuries before he ever found that sword.

Back when this episode first came out, I remember cartoon network censoring the scene with the heart because it was too much for younger audiences. It always confused me when I actually saw the scene because it's not really grotesque or anything.
My thoughts about the Dagon-Dragon is that Dagon consciously or unconsciously takes the form of the most horrifying thing humans can think of. Which would be a dragon for the humans 17 centuries ago, but would be the cthulu-like form for modern humans.
I feel like the Dagon's power is more of an inherent thing that's at it's full potential when it's all together in one vessel like the infinity stones. Individually they can cause havoc, but they are only omnipotent when together.
21:46 I don't think that's a mistake. I think that's just another misconception Dricoll has about the story because in the next episode we're told that Goerge was given a long life span before Azmuth gave him the sword
16:17 I remember that during the Netflix Iron Fist days it was a huge meme to describe him as he describes himself: 'the immortal Iron Fist, protector of Kun Lun, sworn enemy of The Hand'.
28:30. Also when Ben tries to console Kai after they lose the museum battle. The Omniverse theme that plays in the background with Kai crying about the important artifact been stolen was a very serious moment in the show.
Indeed an underrated episode. I really forgot about this one. I do remember when Azmuth showed up and explain that he created the sword and gave it to George in his youth. Now that's a breakdown I am waiting for.
The story says Dagon can't access full power without his heart, not that he can't access any power. He still has some power but not all of it. Which is why it has to possess people in secret, one at a time, instead of the entire world at once
I always figured the Dagon didn't literally have a dragon form, but that it was essentially like a historical game of telephone. With each telling of the story, the appearance of the beast changed ever so slightly, either because people misremembered what they were told or because they wanted to embellish the story. Eventually, the description had changed so much that it was completely unrecognizable from the real thing, and the only person there who could fact check it was George himself (who was in an old person's home).
Dagon’s name sounds like dragon, which are arguably the most famous mythical creature. Enough people start mouthing about a knight defeating a huge hellish beast called Dagon, you’ll eventually mix things up. I also like to think George just got sick of correcting people about it and just started calling him a dragon because it’s easier to explain than “interdimensional mind controlling squid the size of a fucking moon”
31:00 In my opinion i completely agree with u Kuro. Although it was kinda disappointing for a new alien to get trashed in his debut. But we later get to know eatle anyways. And it's still a testament to how powerful Ascalon infused Vilgax was.
I have no idea how but I remember parts in this episode being in the flame keepers’ circle like I remember Gwen using mana to find out they’re climbing in dimensional stairs before seeing Julie almost getting pulled into said dimension
31:35 genuinely great voice acting here. I always felt the poor dialogue hindered the voice actors performance for this vilgax, I would have liked to have seen his portrayal of vilgax with a bit more consistent writing.
33:09 That's the effect of Re-watching, Kuro ❤️✨. When you watch something which was hyped as this and almost a decade later, it really makes you feel nostalgic and hyped again. ❤️✨
The one thing I found out after your breakdowns is that the Dagon has shapeshifting powers. It's pretty obvious now that we watched it consecutively but man, its hard to pickup back when you just watch it on tv
Even if Eatle didn’t need an episode or big moment around his debut, having him introduced during a training session or something so we can become familiar with his abilities would have been more interesting than chucking him into a huge battle and being overshadowed. Ditto for Fasttrack, not enough focus on the introduction, not even a name confirmed in the episode itself! It’s like the writers got a note from the producers to put a new alien in and decided to do it almost too lowkey. At least Chamalien got focus through his DNA source demonstrating the abilities of the species as well as being political commentary, even if Ben’s use of the form was scarce.
20:29 No. Terrain growing uphill is one of the slowest erosion processes. Given the placement of the seal in that shot and the how big the mountain its attached to is later in the timeline, that should take thousands(possibly hundreds of thousands) of years. Especially without it being caused by earthquakes or massive terrain events. So either there was a problem with storyboard communication(which wouldn't surprise me with this show) or George closing the seal magically sank it to the bottom of a mountain and they just don't mention that fact(which also wouldn't surprise me given this show).
This is so true feel the exact same about this episode and have always questioned why it doesn’t get talked about more! Thanks Kuro keep up the great work!
In a weird way I've learned to appreciate the "realism" behind some of Ben's short transformations in UA, such as Eatle and Fasttrack`s debut as well as Ghostfreak and Ripjaws. Having Ben casually whip these aliens out and then transforming back once the job is done kinda represents his mastery of the Ultimatrix through his experience of being a hero for a good number of years. Sure it can definitely be disappointing at times for certain transformations, especially when they only appear once out of the entire series, but at the same time that just feeds into my point. With so many aliens under his belt, it's understandable why he'd only pick a select a few from his past, especially considering that the majority of his newer aliens are just far more powerful.
That sequence with Saint George and the Dragon was pretty cool because of how it was like Sleeping Beauty, which made me scared of dragons until I saw Jake Long, Digimon, and Danny Phantom, which made me like dragons. 30:43-31:03 It's funny cause I was thinking of the Worf Effect being at play too.
Maybe George’s “life being bound to ascilon” is just a one way thing? Maybe it’s less that his life is bound to the sword and rather: “you touched it last so it’s gonna keep you alive until further notice” type situation?
My theory on why they brought out eatle was because before this episode whenever they pulled out a new alien, that alien helped to solve the problem of the episode or out right solved it.
22:01 small detail but I love that they wrote real differential equations on the board and not random nonsense. You’d be surprised, even gigantic Hollywood productions tend to mess up the simplest Physics equations and just write gibberish on the regular, so kudos to the creators for taking the extra time to be somewhat accurate.
My guess is, after Dagon was sealed,he had some Lucubra minions that were sealed with him and some that managed to escape. While those were eventually dealt with, it wasn't fast enough to stop them from controlling others to build a fortress to prepare for his return. And the effort that went into that could've taken a toll on the weakened Dagon to the point where it went dormant within the seal.
I'm starting to think that Kuro's hair is the main character and the rest of him is the persona or something like a side arc . It seem like it has its own personality . (callback from 'Ultimate sacrifice" )
I really can't wait to watch Omniverse with you ... Ben Ten's been my forever favourite series and I love it , having someone with this level of pasion and sharing their view is great to see ... How we get there too 😊
I was very upset about how the Knights were treated Forever after the Diagon arch. They brought back all the leaders at the beginning of this season and forced them to work together, but as a result, half of them are killed off-screen/are not obviously killed (as in this episode), or never used at all, like the same Sir Patrick or Enok. But after this storyline, it was possible to deduce a rather interesting story - how after the victory at Diagon and the death of George, the organization splits again, and each of them tries to find a new meaning for its existence. Perhaps someone could join Plumbers, someone would continue to steal and destroy aliens, and someone would even try to breed their own Dragon in order to become heroes in the eyes of others. But no, instead we have a circus of freaks in the Omniverse, and there is not a single old character. And it's sad.
6:40 I don’t know if it was a cut in kuro’s recording or the actual episode but Kevin reaches for a wheel barrow and it looks like that activates the omnitrix lol
I think it's fine for Vilgax to whomp Eatle given the power he had in that scene, but if they wanted to drive home how powerful Vilgax has become it should have been Humungousaur or even Ultimate Humungousaur.
With the Esoterica I think that the idea is that the suits transform anyone who wears them into an Esoterica, and that when Dagon emerges he takes control of everyone and manifest Esoterica costumes on them. With Old George being bound to the sword, I think that in general it keeps him from dying naturally (of old age, maybe also from getting sick) but like most immortal beings in fiction, they can still be killed if injured badly enough.
I figure Dagon took on a Dragon form because it may have seen that the fears of our ancestors was of the mightiest and most savage creatures on our planet, dinosaurs, and took on the form. As we can see across the world there are a whole lot of cultures that somehow arrived at dragons are top tier after all. Now with him turning into a octoboy, I would guess kraken inspired fear at some point or we can just chock it up to esoteric horror inspirations which is a lot of tentacled monstrosities from another plane.
You forgot the scene where after asking Gwen to teleport the three of them over to the seal, and Kevin explains it's too dangerous, he manhandles Ben and tells him off, even saying a minor swear. Dwayne McDuffie should be given good commendations given he was able to get a lot past the CN Standards and Practices. The fact that he snuck in an allusion to a strong swear in Prisoner 775 Is Missing, and had Eunice first appear naked with censor steam in The Transmogrification of Eunice, speaks volumes to what is supposed to be a children's show. And he got away with Gwen's mother saying that some members of the Tennyson family aren't even primates, by overlapping that line with the beginning of Kevin's dialogue in It's Not Easy Being Gwen. A reference to Darwinian evolution!
perhaps the esoterica outfits were a long ago RELIC from back when the dagon was first in power. Similar to how once the lacupbra (what you could consider a symbiote or piece of dagon (like his dog, made from a piece of dagon's body)) "infects your mind" dagon has a direct link to it from across dimensions, anytime he wants. While lacupbra wasn't around yet, it could be that these few esoterica uniforms that were around back then did the same thing, sort of like their powers to teleport objects and manipulate energy: all those powers are just dagon's powers, but he divvies out his power like a god and his warlocks/clerics/paladins (if you're familiar with D&D). In other words: he likely can Mentally Link or Imprint his other-dimensional energy into matter so that it can still tap and call upon his power, but since the original esoterica weren't mind controlled, we know it'd have to be a one way street, meaning that the esoterica back when dagon was still in power (after he got sealed away), we still under his control and dagon used them to protect and preserve/maintain the esoterica uniforms, write an esoterican holy book, and form this religion that ANYONE could and would follow even after his mind controlled humans died off. He enticed his followers with the promise of his powers through the esoterica uniforms that give them other-dimensional powers, and kept his leaders under his thumb with a "pass this on to the next leader, a letter from dagon himself, proof he exists" type system "only open this letter when you must, but read this letter now" type thing. That told the leaders how serious of a situation it was, but kept the followers oblivious and loyal (because they just liked the cool powers the suits give you). So the body type shifting must be a physical teleportation (of real esoterican people / alien race body swapping with the humans in the suit) and/or a matter manipulation directly done by dagon once someone is IN the suit AND under his direct mind control (aka supervision), cause he doesn't want anyone to see the true form of esotericans (which probably look similar to how vilgax looks later in the climax when he wields both escalon AND dagon's powers: aka, like the lacupbra). which means the "esotericans" were either a hive mind singularity (one mind, collective) race that sacrificed themselves to make "the dagon", aka merged into one powerful being (and the esotericans are just them mimicking peak human physique to blend in under the esoterica outfits, OR the dagon just IS a single minded alien, one of his kind, and can split off parts of himself in order to make intelligent beings that think for themselves (which is why the lacupbra acted animalistic).
I'm loving the comics 5 Years Later Just read the last 2 chapters and I've really enjoyed all the history since the beginning. Just one mistake, about the alien *Full Stop* his species are made of energy as Anodites so it wouldn't be possible form him to get his dna.

Eatle could then make a better first impression, rather than his debut being him getting wiped.
also we wouldn't have a eatle copy cat.
That wouldn’t work because of the ambiguity of when HU takes place so the audience would have been introduced to Shocksquatch before watching his debut
We see later that George was seemingly immortal before getting the sword, already being 300 years old. To explain that, we can just assume either magic or he's a mutant
He said a witch gave him his longevity, so safe to say magic
@Andrew Bastin
A witch, huh? What are the chances she was from Ledgerdomain?
Isn't the dragon is the story of St. George derivative of Leviathan which is derivative of other variants of the Chaoskampf motif?
The dynamic between the trio gives me life, they care about each other and after all they have been through, they aren't afraid to speak their mind to their leader. All of it, the emotion, the stakes, the consequences, it's so much, I'm so proud of how far they have come.
And is sad that Omniverse destroy them.

The most underrated thing is the speed at which Kuro’s hair evolves
His hair is the ultimate form of XLR8
I rewatched this episode yesterday and it felt like the 22 min run time didn't do the premise justice but this and the next episode especially are certified bangers
28:40 It's always emotional when someone says "I'm going to miss it when the show is over" 😭😭
8:11. I feel this isn't Kevin not believing Gwen but more of him being caught completely off guard by what she just said
If I'm right, the animated George story is done in the exact same style as Disney's sleeping beauty
Not exactly but it’s definitely meant to be reminded of it
im pretty sure the animation style in the George backstory is a referrence to Disney's sleeping beauty, it'd explain the dragon dagon form looking the way it does, because it's supposed to look like maleficent at the end when she transforms into a dragon
KURO'S HAIR GROWTH IN THESE BREAK DOWNS IS MUCH MORE UNDERATTED THAN THIS AMAZING EPISODE
24:51 well the sword was a conductor and the heart is the battery
Also I like Ben comforting Gwen we gotta know Ben really cares for family
George's life is absolutely not bound to the sword of askalon. It seemed to be the plan at first, but then we found out he was already alive for centuries before he ever found that sword.

I love seeing the difference in Kuro’s hair in these episodes
Back when this episode first came out, I remember cartoon network censoring the scene with the heart because it was too much for younger audiences. It always confused me when I actually saw the scene because it's not really grotesque or anything.
I like to believe that the 11:35, like the lucubra gave him enhanced strength and made him more buff.
"the hero with fists of iron" has major "people die if they are killed" vibes
Imagine if someone just goes "No, the guy with shins of copper. What the fuck do you think"
I can’t believe that despite there only being 10 episodes left of the season and series there’s at least 5 more filler episodes on the way
Seriously, feedback arc would be such a great refreshment!
I can see that being the case too, though Georges personal insistence on referring to Dagon as, "the dragon" makes it more confusing!
“This is the old guy, who becomes young, then dies”
31:00 In my opinion i completely agree with u Kuro. Although it was kinda disappointing for a new alien to get trashed in his debut. But we later get to know eatle anyways. And it's still a testament to how powerful Ascalon infused Vilgax was.
The only thing underrated is how often Kuros hair changes how much you want to bet he goes bald at the end of the breakdowns
I have no idea how but I remember parts in this episode being in the flame keepers’ circle like I remember Gwen using mana to find out they’re climbing in dimensional stairs before seeing Julie almost getting pulled into said dimension
I think Kuro's hair has the evolution function, that's why it changes every video
31:35 genuinely great voice acting here. I always felt the poor dialogue hindered the voice actors performance for this vilgax, I would have liked to have seen his portrayal of vilgax with a bit more consistent writing.
i like how kuro just keeps quickswapping his hair styles like ben does with master control and in the UAF era
I like to think Dagan's heart would be difficult to cut or the sword is keeping it in place from returning back to Dagan.
29:35 Driscoll's dead there, without his helmet. (When Kuro moves the shot, so you gotta see it slowly. But he is there)
That sequence with Saint George and the Dragon was pretty cool because of how it was like Sleeping Beauty, which made me scared of dragons until I saw Jake Long, Digimon, and Danny Phantom, which made me like dragons.
It could also be a situation of he can't die of old age but he can be killed.
Also maybe his death represents the sword betraying him, perhaps because he's not worthy.
My theory on why they brought out eatle was because before this episode whenever they pulled out a new alien, that alien helped to solve the problem of the episode or out right solved it.
Man of action need to hire you kuro for the future of Ben 10. Your drawing are awesome
Eatle is my absolute favourite alien, I specifically love his ua design
22:01 small detail but I love that they wrote real differential equations on the board and not random nonsense. You’d be surprised, even gigantic Hollywood productions tend to mess up the simplest Physics equations and just write gibberish on the regular, so kudos to the creators for taking the extra time to be somewhat accurate.

4:26 I like how they gave the binoculars a gap in the middle because this guy has a single cyclops eye
Looking throw my watch history then I found your channel😊, glad to be back 😁.
Itd be cool if, like the storybook sequence for the knights opening up in the middle, for the esoterica explaining the dagon, it opened in the start.

The forever knights have and shall always be fodder.
Not really, old charcters like Sir morton and Dr chadwick returned in omniverse.
"not single old character", Dr Chadwick and Sir Morton appeared in AF and return in OV, so technically they're old characters

I love how the storybook style is directly trying to reference Disney's Sleeping Beauty.
I think Kuro is wildly changing his hairstyle on purpose to mess with us at this point haha!
perhaps the esoterica outfits were a long ago RELIC from back when the dagon was first in power.
Seriously Kuro you should design an alien made out of just hair. Your Hairstyles are really entertaining ❤️👍🏻
he should design an alien that controls hair or has its hair have different effects. sort of like a love deluxe / molestache scenario
