  • The Devil's Calculator Part 3 - I think it likes it when I push those buttons... as long as they get an output of 666. The third function is introduced this episode! Input a number x, and it will output the xth number in some secret series! Use this information to reach 666.

    I consider myself decent at math but watching Tyler instantly do calculations and solving the puzzles in his head makes me feel like a child compared to him.

      It often depends on your level of math. For example, on my Calculus final exam, I distinctly remember putting in 2+7 into my calculator. My classmates have noted this similar idea too. You often forget the basics when dealing with more advanced math. It's always good to go back and review counting and times tables, etc.
      Also Tyler does puzzles for a living on youtube, he probably subconsciously picks up on patterns really fast, numbers included.

      To add to this, I distinctly remember that in my Calculus class I was doing a test, and when I got the test back, I saw that I added 8 + 1 to equal 7

      @@KitKatHexe The joke is that if you exclaim (a.k.a. yell) "3!" the exclaimation mark is then used to represent factorial, thus why yelling "3 + 3 = 3" gives you a technically accurate equation (by adding the exclaimation mark)

      @@KitKatHexe so the notation for factorial is n!, as in 4! = 4*3*2*1 = 24. so the corresponding math joke is whenever someone shouts about numbers a little too excitedly they explode into massive 10 digit behemoths, what have you done, you've doomed us all, etc

    holy shit your logarithm explanation is so helpful. i really struggled with logarithms in school, but "they're basically exponents but working backwards" just made them... *click* for me, i guess

      Roots are basically reverse exponents too
      log10(1000) = 3 because 10^3 = 1000
      √16 = 4, because 4^2 = 16
      logx(y) = z, because x^z = y
      xth root of y = z, because z^x = y

      roots are 'what to the power of x would equal this?'
      and logs are 'x to the power of what would equal this?'
      (where x is the power of the root and the base of the log, respectively)

    Surprised that you didn't know that. There's a cool fact about roulettes in casinos that a regular roulette with numbers from 0 to 36 has the sum of its numbers that's equal to 666. But yeah, triangle numbers in general, so n(n+1)/2.

    I think you could also solve Level 43 (solved at 4:09) by calculating 342 from 38 fork 9 (38*9 = 342) and then applying the diamond to get 666 (342 in base-7 is 666). I feel like this is more likely the intended solution.

    It's interesting to watch Tyler play games like this. So far with all of the puzzle videos outside of the more complicated programing ones I always feel like I could do them. This game just objectively proves(to myself) that Tyler is smarter than I am. Rarely happens with anyone I watch on TH-cam, outside of actual scientists and professionals in their own field.

    For puzzle at 4:26, just use 9*38 = 342, which gives 666 in base 7

      I presume it's just the (n-1)th number? The number series does indeed start from 0; "palindrome of a negative number" doesn't exactly make sense as a concept so you can't get any lower than 0
      I assume doing (n-1)th instead of just nth is to help with the design of a later puzzle but I wouldn't be able to tell you how that actually helps

    I should probably have said this earlier. But if you're looking for "cover art" for one of the installments of this game, might I suggest--and forgive me, this is pretty constrained--20703 on the calculator, turned sideways so it reads MOrON going down? It's an angle I haven't really seen.

    I just completed the original game 68 levels, still left with dlc. This game is hella good! Also, you don't need to press everything at the same time, and I think some questions you need to use the memory function.

      They mostly just come up a lot in combinatorics, so if you have significant experience there, particularly in a timed environment like tests/competitions, you remember the early factorials fairly quickly (as well as a bunch of binomial coefficients)
