My Dad would always put a huge tarp over the entire campsite and whenever it rained I would always have the best sleep. The last time we camped together was 20 years ago and the sound of rain still helps me sleep.

This is what I hear when I wake up in the middle of the night sometimes. I usually fall right back asleep with a smile because I know it's raining, and I love the rain.

Fun fact: the sound of rain is soothing to us because natural predators tend to avoid hunting during the rain, and humans have evolved to associate the sound of rain with safety from these predators.

Small things shows you big things
Summer of 2019 - I did three stretches where I camped for a week straight. On the last stretch, I had three nights of rain and thunder in a row, but I had set up tarps above and below the tent. I fell asleep to the pitter patter on the tarps, hearing thunder in the distance. Despite the rain, I was nice and dry, and a solid day of sun took care of the tarps to dry. Whats also really nice, when you are amongst the pines, and a breeze blows through, causing the tent to sway slightly and you hear a slight whistle through the pine needles. Camping ain't for evryone, but for me, I find by the second day, I stop thinking about work, I sleep very well, and my concerns narrow to the immediate. I've found a sweet spot of what to take, where to camp, and how long to go. I never regret going.

Our brains form neuro pathways based on what we hear at night. It is a defense mechanism to subconsciously listen for danger. We get used to specific night sounds so that if its not there we are more alert.

Yo might want to tone it down a bit, really. I'm sure either you ment well or just wanted to harvest some likes, but your wishes may be demoralizing for some. Take in consideration there are people usin this to try and stop the inner dialog, the voices, the inner hell, so to be able to get some rest, not only physical but from the emotional exhaustion of being. People in deep depression, PTSD, those defeated, suicidal, in grief, those who hope to survive the time between getting in bed and falling asleep without letting the toughts of self hate making them hurt themselves. Most of them are just wishing for a whole day without a crisis or an episode, those who set their goals at "I'll try to shower tomorrow and maybe get out of the house for a few minutes" and find the concepts of Success, Health, Love and Happiness very opressive. Tose "goals" are burdens to some, are what we may have lost or we never got to achieve or experience, and a reminder of how much we failed at coping with life. So... i don't want to tell you what to do or say but, if you do't mind me suggesting, wishing all a deep, calm, soothing sleep wold be welcomed. That's me, of cource, speaking on behalf of the damaged and tormented. Maybe you are super on par with the healthy, proactive, winning attituded men and women around here, 78 of them like your comment, good for you all!

I sometimes use cheap construction plastic, which is transparent, as my tent. Sleeping out in a thunderstorm is absolutely magical and as an atheist, it gives me a stronger understanding of why people became religious in the first place. It's not just the flash and the bang. When you're outside in the pitch black forrest in thunder, you suddenly see all the trees. It's so different from what you're used to, living a modern life.
I bought a pop up camper just for that reason

This reminds me of when I went to stay in my hybrid camper on March 19 . I was in the middle of the woods in North Florida. I was only going for three days and then I got the call that I would be laid off for three months due to Covid..I stayed there the entire time it truly was a blessing . Each end of my camper is a pop out bed, so it was like sleeping in a tent. I got to watch the fire flies dance at night,the owls hoot, the chickadees and the crows would wake me up in the morning.. I found myself profoundly healing. I became so in tune with myself the land and animals around me I’ve never been so much at peace. I’m sending anyone reading this blessings and love🥰

Sitting here with my husband… organizing our life and the days to come. Just peacefully. Sometimes we can’t hear each other talk over the rain, but it’s bliss. There’s rain and there’s monsoon. In Vietnam, during rainy season, it rained all the time, and every night I lay in water, waiting for the enemy. You learn to sleep in water. But you quickly get tired of being wet, and suffering the skin conditions that come with always being wet, and I stopped loving the rain. But eventually, after I got home, I loved it again. My son loves it, too. On cool, rainy nights we sit out on the porch wrapped in blankets and listen to the rain on the trees. Sometimes I close my eyes and hear the monsoon. It’s the only time I think about Vietnam, and I only think about the rain, and nothing that happened.

I think from an evolutionary perspective, the most logical reason we would be actively soothed by rain is that humans who did go out of their shelter during rain often had a greater chance of dying and so the people who preferred seeking shelter and relaxing lived to spread their gene, so essentially it's most likely a mechanism to keep us sheltered to avoid risking death.

Because of these, I find that my night terrors have subsided. I don't think these beautiful creators realize how deeply their hard work and compassion really does help people. I don't often wake up screaming, my vivid nightmares have decreased and my mental health is a bit calmer at night to where I can fall asleep with ease instead of dread. 🥰

I have camped in a tent for fun for 60 yrs and have many times fallen asleep in my tent, listening to the rain. This is what it sounds like. I am glad my son told me about this video. I sleep with a fan for white noise but this is so much better.

@YoungBlood Depends how you approach it. Did you go camping for a nice weekend and got rained out? yeah, that's super annoying not gunna lie. Or did you go camping on a weekend with the knowledge that it was going to storm all weekend and possibly have heavier rain? because you just wanted to chill in a tent, in a storm? If you brought a stove and some wood you can cook. Or bring a little gas stove. Then your set. Just chillin in a tent all day in the rain. That's why we have it on TH-cam. That's alot of work and planning, to experience what you're audibly experiencing now. Granted, there is no being hit with the moisture of the rain droplets accidentally getting past the rain guard. Or the cool breeze that accompanies a rain storm. But this certainly is a gift.
@@NevesThaMenace or you just be prepared for the rain even if you don't expect it. Buy good gear, set up the tent wel, don't let the outer tent touch the inner tent put storm cords etc. Then you can just enjoy the stormy weather without getting wet.

this is my GO TO sleep video of all time. I have difficulties falling asleep and staying asleep. I get 1-2hrs of fragmented sleep throughout the night and simply cant fall back asleep for another 2-3hrs. But this video is the only thing that makes me wake up less and go back to sleep easily. I want to try camping out after my exams. Camping seems like a tiresome activity but it's actually very relaxing when you are inside the tent.
It’s as tiresome or as relaxing as you want it to be. You can either bring nothing but a hunting rifle and ammo, and sleep on the cold ground until you can build your own shelter, or you can bring a 8 person tent and have coolers filled to the brim with beer and generators for power

I go fishing for weekend at a time and this is a regular thing for me. There is something special about being out in nature in the rain but being dry cosy in your tent at the same time knowing you can't get wet and nobody is about to mither your relaxation. Waking up to this on a summer morning when fishing and then just turning over and going back to sleep is the best state of relaxation I know

The simplicity of silence albeit the sound of natural elements in a scenario like this is purely and instantly nurturing. Nothing else is invading our ears.
I live in England next to a noisy pub garden and the sound invasion in to my bedroom of people yelling and shouting under the influence of alcohol literally affects my mental health in such a negative way and stops me sleeping. I played this recording on my phone last night as a closer white noise to my head and within 5 mins felt drowsy and settled. I must have fallen asleep shortly after that and had a great night's sleep. The power of nature is beautiful and over comes the negative sounds in such an incredible way. Simple. This message board has some simply beautiful written thoughts that are unison with what's going on here.
