Mercedes w203 m111 Radiator Flush (blown head gasket, oil in the water)

  • UPDATE: I'm a little embarrassed that I didn't notice this at the time of recording, but the sludge in the coolant is oil. This is a classic sign of a blown head gasket. Check for this in the coolant reservoir before buying a car. If you see this snotty looking sludge, walk away.
I flushed the radiator on my 2002 C230 Kompressor Sport Coupe. The purpose in sharing this video is not necessarily to introduce you to flushing a system. For that there's a better video from ChrisFix ( • How to SUPER FLUSH you... ). I thought it would be helpful to other Mercedes owners to see what the system looks like.
Here are the products I used...
Gunk Super Heavy Duty Radiator Flush: a.co/bv9gdfj
    Zerex G-05: a.co/bCy0x9H
I also recommend using distilled water instead of tap water to dilute your antifreeze.

For those who have the same problem, it is not always head gasket or transmission oil cooler like what most mechanic would say as the either or problem for this.
I had the same issue on my W203. Most of the time, it, it is the engine oil cooler that caused it. Either the oil cooler gasket needs to be replaced or the whole thing needs to be replaced.
How to confirm this? If you see oil in the reservoir tank like this. Brown caramel color. Check your engine oil and ATF oil. If both are clean, then it is the oil cooler.

Hey guys, oil mixing in the coolant bottle, is not a blown head gasket, but a faulty oil cooler, or a broken oil cooler seal, before you go stripping your cylinder head, first check the oil cooler. However, if you have oil mixing in your oil sump, then you have a blown gasket for sure.

Hi. I have coolant mixing in my oil . Half a liter per 10 kilometers. I would imagine as you mentioned that it’s the head gasket. Is there anyway to tell if the head is cracked before I take this apart or should I just junk it..?Definitely don’t have the money to fix it if the heads cracked...

I cleaned out my coolant reservoir tank by adding 1/4 cup CLR & 1 cup corse table salt. After removing the coolant reservoir from the vehicle I then decided to shake up the CLR & salt solution. The salt was abrasive enough to clean out all the debris, it worked very well. I rinsed several times with clean hot water & then I reinstalled the coolant tank.

My 1995 C280 oil in the reservoir I took to a Mercedes specialist, one look and he said that I have a blown head gasket. I ordered a radiator from FCP Euro and voila. Sometimes you have to do your research before taking your car to the shop. He offered to fix it for $3000 or for $4500 I could buy his daughter's car. My car isn't worth a grand so for $180 problem solved

Hey just spotted this, I had this issue on a e220 2014 and I initially thought head gasket, oil in the coolant, but turns out it was my oil cooler, replaced that and 6 months later again my oil cooler failed and caused oil to leak into my coolant. Common fault with the European made mercedes here. But I had same symptoms, heaters blowing cold etc, never any warning lights on dash apart from top up coolant, the oil thickend up the coolant preventing it from flowing through the pipes, hope this helps someone

Next time you replace your thermostat don't throw it away. Keep it instead and remove the thermostat part out of the housing. Now you have a housing without the thermostat which will be a great tool to flush your engine without having to wait until the engine gets hot enough to open the thermostat and should get you going the moment you start your engine. Another thing: use demineralized water to flush. This will get your system cleaner than normal water or coolant does.

You must only use Distilled water and the Mercedes spec antifreeze in your radiator to avoid the rusting.

It may be the Oil cooler gaskets, there are 2 of them on the kompressor: 2711840080
and 2711840180. Do a compression test on the head to help determine where the leak is. *Cracked heads are not uncommon.
