1976 Honda CB550 Pt. 6 - First Half of the M-Unit Rewire

  • It's time to rewire the bike to create a stable electrical system. The bike was full of electrical gremlins, the worst of which was a tendency to drain a battery until it was stranded among all of the lights failing. An M unit is a great way to make things work exactly how YOU want. And no, they didn't pay me to say that.

@@Theillestrator1050 Your advice is more than appreciated, I’m not using your video as a “how to” just more as an inspiration to start tackling it. I’ve gotten it to turn over with with the oem harness alone. But with the air box missing I would like to simply the wiring with an M-unit as well. But hey, I’ve changed a few headlights out before, whats rewiring a bike? Haha

@@grimsventure4439 M unit is a good way to centralize and simplify wiring. Your basic carbed bike has ignition, lights, and stator, excluding the horn and fuel sending unit. Separating what does what makes it easier, then isolate. The stator might be a good starting point, it provides all the power.

Ah... so that rain we had here in Louisville came from NYC. That bike is way less complicated than the BMW. What I like about you is unlike Yammie or Shadetree, you do the most with what little you have and is more realistic for most people, even some of these Russian videos where they have the bare minimum, yet build whole bikes from scrap piles. And your work is quality, it's not some jury-rigged pile that just works good enough.

@@Theillestrator1050 There's two ways to make an excellent bike; you're way- like how most of us would do it, and anything you'd see on CafeRacer.tv's channel. And it is motivation, they look like achievable goals. Have you seen that channel? I couldn't build most of those bikes, much less pay somebody else to do it, lol.
