  • Have you taken a look inside the Rolex Yacht-Master II? At 44mm, it's not only one of the largest watches made by Rolex. It's also one of the most complicated (second only to the Sky-Dweller).
    The gold Yacht-Master 2 (reference 116688) shown on the video houses a 360-component Caliber 4161 movement, which powers this beast of a sports watch, equipped with a regatta timer for yacht racing. The watch also contains the same Ring Command bezel as the Sky-Dweller, but uses it instead to control the timing mechanisms.
    Join us in this episode of our Watchmaking Magic series as we perform a complete overhaul on the watch, taking every single piece apart with surgical precision before putting them back together again.
    Yuri Lopez from Chrono Sky (see Instagram and website links below), our preferred watchmaker, allowed us to take some breathtaking footage of the entire process.

    I haven’t read every comment, but apart from the master watchmaker’s obvious skill and talent, no one has mentioned anything about the manufacture of these micro components!
    Absolutely awesome micro engineering. The mathematics behind even the ratios of the multiple micro gears is mind blowing!

    Watch making is really under appreciated. Nobody can imagine the level of effort, compassion and most importantly skill that they put in to get these beautiful masterpieces to the people out there. Not mentioning at the price that even premium, it doesn’t justify the their compassion and dedication

      I agree. I work in a certified workshop above a Rolex ad and most watches go back to the customer without a thought, it’s just that bit more rewarding when you get a note or message from a colleague from the customer saying how much they appreciate your work.

    With so much precision and accuracy in this watch how does the technician know how tight to make the screws holding everything together? He just screws the screws until the threads causes him to stop? Could he possibly tighten the screws to much to where it would affect the mechanisms accuracy and balance? The guitarist Dan Spitz from my favorite heavy metal band, Anthrax, retired from the band and playing music all together and went off to Switzerland and trained to become a master watchmaker. So cool to see the inside of a watch and how its assembled. Hes the one who got me into watches. Ever since I was little anything mechanical has always intrigued me.

    The Yacht-Master II is my favorite Rolex watch ever. They took the rotating bezel, which was already a brilliant innovation from many years ago, and they made it interface with the internal mechanism. That's what differentiates it from the original Yacht-Master. The original Yacht-Master was just an arguably better version of the Submariner that had nothing to do with yachting. The Yacht-Master II symbolizes Rolex as a brand, because it innovates and creates new things.

    There is something about watches that can almost summarize humanity. The outside appearance, inside appearance, art for sale, or art for love. The thought itself cannot be described in full, but only generalized

    Phenomenal skill in disassembling and re-assembly. Such deft hand, concentration, attention to even tiny details! By the way, what was done in that machine for 45 minutes? Cleaning? Washing? Drying?
    Probably, one more video is required about how these tiny precision components are manufactured? At least about some important components.

    • @LMF5000
      @LMF5000 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I believe that machine is an ultrasonic bath for cleaning the parts. It immerses them in water and applies high frequency sound waves to force dust and old grease to be released into the water, leaving the parts clean.
