I enjoyed Laid Back Luke’s way of going about the video. It wasn’t just dog piling on a newbie, but instead giving some history, context, and solid advice. Solid work from both of y’all!
I think it definitely shows how long he's been in the business. I've been around a lot of guys who have LOTS of experience in whatever they're doing whether it be a career or hobby. A lot of them are like Luke where they try to give advice and answer questions full well knowing that whoever they're talking too probably won't retain or understand every single piece of what they're saying. Anything helps though and the process of veterans helping out newbies in any capacity has always impressed me. For me its fireworks and pyro displays. Whenever I get lucky enough to meet a professional pyro I find that I could easily spend hours talking to them but most of the time I only get an hour or two. So its all about trying to ask them what I view as the most important questions I can think of and try to retain as much as I can from their answer.
Exactly. He just seems like a good dude all around. Definitely cares a lot about his process and being thoughtful with it. The horsing video proved that as well.
@@annacatarina4310 I obviously don't know Cody at all other than what we see on his videos, but he seems like he's still pretty grounded even with his success. You can tell he was super stoked when Luke would compliment him.

It's so cool to watch Cody nervous and excited to hear these tips and reactions from someone he respects. He genuinely ascended when Luke complimented his work.
I know the soup thing was a joke, but I legit went to a soup dance party once. It was held illegally in an abandoned warehouse and there was just a guy serving free soup out of a huge fucking cauldron to anyone who wanted some. Granted, it was served in cups and not bowls, but eating lentil soup at a warehouse rave definitely felt strange and illegal on more than one level. It was great soup though. Also it was advertised as a soup rave and planned in advance, which is why I trusted the soup.
Right? Like, DJ's are people who turned "dude, I made you a mix tape but added stuff to make it crappier" into a career. Why is he so deferential to these ppl?
this is why i love cody because any negative feedback or any constructive criticism he gets he learns from it and isn’t rude abt it. only if it’s justifiable yk
Awww so proud of ya bud! We all know how passionate you are about DJing and to see your face light up when he’s giving you all the positive feedback?! It’s awesome 😎
Not going to lie, I was ready for this to be some kind of mean douche or gatekeeping that we could laugh at the cringe of, but this was just unbelievably wholesome and great. Luke came across so well and your own capacity to take criticism and self reflect are admirable. So very heartwarming and over the moon for you!
Cody, SO MUCH RESPECT for you and your honest introspection on this. You're one of the most genuine TH-camrs out there, and it's clear you don't skimp out on any sort of practice and hard work when it comes to pursuing different routes of your career and hobbies. All the kudos man!!!!
I love that when Cody gets memorized by the video and forgets about his posture and half his face goes out of frame I've never related to body language more
All this talk of getting gigs throws me back to my highschool days of starting an 80s glam band and learning about 6 hours worth of material with my band while also trying to write originals. From starting with open mic nights and completely eating shit to getting interviews on local radio stations and opening for big bands at local arenas and stuff. I definetly miss it.
And despite Cody dismissing it somewhat, it's really worth properly focusing on the basics. Beat-matching, fully understanding phrasing, timing, key harmonics (camelot wheel), and being able to find and predict the patterns in music all set the groundwork that lets you progress past simple mixing into more complex transitions that will benefit your future sets massively. Especially if you ever plan on mixing outside of house music.
I could listen to cody talk about stuff hes passionate about for HOURS. I get so wrapped up in his comedy that I often forget how incredibly talented and knowledgeable he is about the entertainment industry
I know you were talking about how you feel like you don't have to work as hard for getting gigs to DJ at but just remember you're only in that position because of all the hard work you've put into your overall internet presence and career. You've been putting in the work for years man
it makes sense that cody is good at this, we've seen his ability to match people's energy in countless collabs over the years and his ability to put people at ease is second to none
I do have to say that after all the years I’ve been watching you, you seem to just genuinely enjoy music and sharing it with people which is at the core what being a DJ should be right???
This is actually why I'm considering trying to DJ. I'm not great at producing. As an artist I'm mid, but GOD do I love music. I bet I could make it work. One of my favorite sets is Madeon secret sky 2022?? could have the year wrong. He ends with "train for pain" by the clash after an EDM set. It's really a different vibe and it feels really cool.
Laidback Luke giving you compliments is absolutely insane. Its so fun to see Cody get excited over it. I couldnt imagine getting compliments from him, must be like a dream.

this is actually one of the coolest videos I've ever seen on your channel. It's amazing to hear a vet talk about what he actually does. I've been to a bunch of shows, raves, festivals in the US but after going to techno shows in Germany for the first time it's like a new door has opened. You can tell the DJs are performing off the dome in the venue and it's absolute insanity the work they put into mixing everything. Lot's of DJs mixing analogue too which was so dope I wanted to cry lol. Would love to see more videos like this!
I mean, I jumped from my chair too when he said "you have to make some vocals for me", that's the level of engagement Cody has on all of us, we all cheer for him

The current stream of music production, and how rapid it occurs, plays a role in the feeling that you need your own productions; and even the experience of feeling like you’ve listened to all the music there is to hear.
