The original had its flaws but has KTM finally created the ultimate BEAST! I've got this bike for 10 days to get to know it a little better and I must say Im rather excited!

Hi Lamb Chop. I'm the guy that lives in S/W France. I've already had 2 gen 1 & 2 gen 2 Super Dukes. I tried one of these recently back to back with the new Streetfighter because i'd like achange from the KTM but as a road bike I much preferred the Ktm. The Ducati is a fab thing but you have to rev it to get the most from it so that means insane speeds whereas the 1290 with that incredible midrange is much nicer & friendlier.
Picking up my gen 3 1290 this weekend.
Yeah heard that about SF, hopefully riding one Friday so will see for myself 👍

I bought one of these a couple of weeks ago and now I'm always worried about the government taking my license for having fun. Whenever I go for an overtake I open the throttle, look down and realise I'm doing over 100.
Take it to a track once a month and get all the speed demons out of your system

Own a GT and test rode one of these in Feb, this brought it all back how tight and useable the gen 3 is.

Nice! I’d get this in a heart beat if it wasn’t for the insurance nightmare here in London. Clean license, never made a claim, bike garaged = £3,300 a year! If I run the same quote with an address outside of London it’s £300 a year. Yes, London has a problem with bike crime, but per capita it’s actually quite low on the list. What the hell is going on!

We took both the 20 Tuono and this out yesterday (mate bought the superduke) I’ve always loved the Tuono but I was blown away with the superduke, never had the feeling I wanted with the gen 1 and 2 models, exactly what you said about the front end, the new one feels so complete, the engine can be docile if you don’t want to be mental, as a warm weather touring bike it will be ace. For track it will be loads better and for general hoonage a new license isn’t needed!
Definitely at the top of my next bike list!

Great vid chopsy. The answer as to why certain things were not included in previous models is cost. Having preloaded forks, inverted forks, etc gets to cost of production and price point of sale.

I bought a Velocity moto LC900 after watching your review. I've got a similar feeling after watching this! Wonder can it be any more fun/fast/scary than my MT10. Lots of vloggers appear to have KTM vids out, yours is the only one I've watched right to the end. Class. 👍👍👍

Upgrading from 2018-2020 SD shortly, can't wait. Chassis on gen two is still compromised, even after fitting the WP Pro suspension it didn't fix it, felt the immediate improvement from test ridingf gen 3, sold.

I got one 2 months ago, wasn’t planning on getting a Gen 3, but a Gen 2 next summer, but after all the reviews saying it’s a better bike than the old model I changed my mind when I found an ex demo Gen 3 for £12,300.
Only put a few hunkered miles on it so far.
I’m very happy with the changes they have made over the Gen 2 I test rode.

Lamb Chop Rides that’s very cool, borrowed the Gen 3 today and loved it, best thing compared to my Gen 2 was the quickshifter and the way it turned into the corners, got back on my Gen 2 and realised what a brill bike it still is, just a tad more agricultural 😜

I have no idea how anyone who adores torque, soul and character, can own anything other than a big single or twin. And it trumps ultimate bhp, smoothness and an inline 3 or 4 everytime.

Great vid, really looked forward too this. It's definitely my favourite super naked & I like the stance of this latest one. I always think they're pointless but then I see a review & desperately want one lol. I just love a big a V-Twin & they're so rare these days. Fantastic. It's definitely a bike I'd like to own before I stop riding!

Tested one earlier this week, loved it. BUT had MTC failure come up on dash, nearly killed me when the traction failed mid corner on the gas and throttle went non responsive. Think this was an issue on earlier models?
Doesn't put me off-hopefully a one off, will be going for a longer demo and deposit time.

Bought a new tuono start of the year. & was waiting 2 get 1st service done, then lock down. It was sitting 3 months, so I bought a 1190 adventure 2 tie me over, luv it bumpy rds bring it on . 😂🤣
I've been waiting for your view on this. I'm taking my 19 plate gt for a service in july and I asked to take the new R out on test. I'm like you, I know it's going to be good but I hope it's not so good I feel the need to take it home. Happy Father's Day 👍

I've much problems with electronics of this bike. I can't brake around the corners because the ABS work and the bike hasn't able to break! It's a dangerous bike! Now i use that without controls. On 30 june have a date with ktm store.

Great review! I test rode the 2020 super duke R and tuono factory back to back last weekend. Both bikes are amazing in there own right. I'd not previously ridden a gen1/2... I was surprised how sporty it felt. Both have amazing plush suspension, totally agree the ktm just falls into the corners. But we all have different personal preferences and the Aprillia suited my riding style more so that's where my readys went. I did get a better deal on the tuono, 15k with a carbon akrapovic and tune thrown in. I just have a painful two week wait for it now 😭
and the sound of tuono is 10 times better...and faster too
I bought my gen1 second hand and it's fueling right at low revs is absolutely fine. Maybe the previous owner had the fueling set up to go with the can🤷♂️
An informative and cool video. I wish more tests would inform us how the tested bike behaves with revs below 3000 or when riding in town in low traffic. Most tests focus on how the bike behaves in canyons or twisties, how the bike behaves when is pushed, or above the speed limit...which is wrong. My key takeaways is that the old 1290 is a pain in low traffic like most old Ducati and that it’s front end doesn’t inspire confidence as the new bike. The new bike is better by any standard... if we forget those ugly & chunky pipes underneath the engine. Keep up the good work 👍🏻. This was a good review 🏆🏆

Are the bolts rusted already? Aftermarket stainless steel bolts are often the first aftermarket parts KTM people buy.
So ktm tries to be like Tuono 🤣 I wonder why? I tried GT and yes, it is too vertical like old R, I agree with all comments regarding riding position. Without light lean on steering, you do not feel front wheel. Greetings all GS riders 😉 Great review! 👍

You are a dangerous person LCR - you feed our addiction to motorbikes. Appears some RC8 pedigree in the Gen 3 in regards to the chassis and handling.
Fantastic fun, but can you really open it up ever on a public road. Its gonna last if you buy one for road use because your rarely gonna be stressing the bike.
Take it the track Chops need to see it there, can't really tell what its capable of on a road ride.

I’m only 18 and in America it’s 2400 a year for me. So, roughly about 2k euros for me to own for a year.
I was debating whether getting the new superduke or slightly used husky 701 supermoto, I had to go with the husky! Next bike will for sure be 1290 SDR
I spent most of the video shaking my head at the state of our roads! It's embarrassing how bad they have been allowed to get.
Yes they are so bad now that I am beginning to question the wisdom of continuing to ride anything except a small old (slow) machine which I wouldn't make me cry if I wrecked it.

Still agricultural just a little chops. Owning a 2019 and riding the 2020 back to back, upgrading the 2019 suspenders is all that is needed. No reason to upgrade bikes. Now, if it was a V4, that would be call for an upgrade. My channel will start soon chops, and I will be giving away my 2019 Superduke. I might end up shipping it cross the pond. Never know.

Hey Chopsey... Now that you have ridden the Streetfighter V4, compared to the 1290r, which bike would buy and why? Im about to buy, but no Streetfighters here in NZ to test ride.
I'm hoping a lot of these changes flow across to the GT model soon.
I'm not liking the fuel-capacity downsizing trend. Can all the manufacturers just KNOCK IT OFF already?
