Apart from the highly proficient performance on the veena, one has to acknowledge the amazing the performance on the pakhawaj as well.

How this music sings to my soul - transports me directly to Hridiyam Guha - I wish to be reborn into such a family so that I may start my studies from an early age and reach a level of proficiency that does justice to this genre. As it is, in the few years I hopefully have remaining, I will learn what I can from what these great masters of Dhrupad share so generously with the world

The jewel of today's Dhrupad. Great master. Long live Dhrupad, long live Dagar gharana.

Outstanding. Soulful. Melancholic romance of Chandrakauns captured and expressed. Absolutely proper

A great rendition by Ustadji marred by poor recording. Sad!

All due respects to such a great Ustad. However much i love Drupad, so many recordings have long Alaps where the actual notes being played are completely drowned out by the tanpuras. Ive Been avidly loving Drupad for over 20 years. However the power of the Rudra Veena is in listening to the fine naunces of the srutis that are clearly not heard in many of these recordings. Just spacing out to tanpura is not Drupad. better recordings need to be posted in order for people to get to the heart of this music. Otherwise an untrained audience will just not understand what to listen to.

Could you recommend one or two recordings that might be available on youtube, and that you think meet these standards? Or rather, that properly portray the Dhrupad experience? Thanks in advance.

Rodrigo B check out recordings of ustad Asad Ali Khan, especially his multani or marwa. He belonged to a different tradition within Dhrupad and a different style of playing but in his recordings the problem is not as pronounced.

What I'm hearing that seems to be the loudest are his chikari strings. I was watching his pinky strokes and they are perfectly timed to the incessant high frequency. A little eq should fix the recording.

You are absolutely right and not only in the dhrupad. I was in the 2019 Durbar Festival in London and found this in more than one concert. With in dhrupad it gets much more serious, as dhurpad it is so subtle. Well, it could also happen that is not the tampura, but the droning string wich is in the solo instrument itself. One of the concerts in that festival was a sitar long solo performance and it hapenned.
By the way, I felt in love with the Gundecha Brothers (wich concert did not have that problem, thanks God).

Totally agree. i dont know how people are so praising a piece of music where the bad recording is mostly tanpura. Ustadji playing is magical and amazing but so many of these recordings are poor.
