      3d Printed master makes a silicone mold suitable for making multiple plaster molds. plaster mold is suitable for firing the clay, and the filling and emptying of the plaster mold is to have a hollow mug,

      @@DrBrangarno. They aren't firing the clay in the plaster.
      The plaster mold is used to make a clay positive by pouring liquid clay in into the mold. The clay then dries out slightly while in contact with the plaster cast and the excess watery clay is poured out. What's left is a hollow clay positive which is then demolded and cleaned up.
      Its then fired in that state. This method creates very thin and fine clay/porcelain. But its risky because the failure rate in firing is higher if it isnt dried appropriately.

    • @DrBrangar
      @DrBrangar ปีที่แล้ว +5

      @@TheKamiBunnyokay, if the plaster isnt suitable for firing, then why use it at all? They started with a 3D printed negative mold.

    • @TheKamiBunny
      @TheKamiBunny ปีที่แล้ว +26

      @@DrBrangar because the plaster absorbs water that helps set the liquid clay that's in contact with the plaster into a gel like state.
      You the pour out the liquid clay and let it dry more till it's in its leather stage.
      If you use a 3d printed plastic, it wont set because the plastic can't absorb water.

    Who knew that 30 seconds is enough to learn how to do this. Make rigid plaster mold pieces, for slip casting, from a silicone rubber mold, made from a 3D printed form. You could use bone porcelain slip and make some really valuable pieces people would pay top dollar for. The mold gets damaged? make a new one from the silicone and mother mold. Silicone mold gets damaged? make a new one from the 3D printed master.

      What is the material is it cement ?

    • @johnvonachen1672
      @johnvonachen1672 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      @@Daall-kw7hm it’s slip. Slip is clay mixed with water and a defloculant. The defloculant allows the slip to remain liquidy and not allow the clay to clump up. It allows you to have less water in the slip and when you pour it into a dry plaster mold, the mold will absorb the water and solidify the clay on the surface of wherever the mold was. You end up with what is called leatherware, a workable step in the process. If you let it dry slowly it becomes greenware, then you fire it at a low temp to get rid of any remaining moisture. Then you apply glaze and fire it again.

    • @DavidLeeKersey
      @DavidLeeKersey ปีที่แล้ว +3

      It's harder to cast a rigid object from a rigid mold. It's easier to cast a flexible object from a rigid mold or a rigid object from a flexible mold. Making the silicone mold allows them to make many plaster molds more quickly and easily with less risk of breaking the master.

I used a resin printer to help make the original molds and just continued with traditional casting. If you want the best results, sometimes it's best to use tech to augment processes that already work. I try to remind people that they were called rapid prototyping machines for a reason.

Centering cones could have been drilled (negative) or added (positive) just before casting the second part of the plaster mold.
