- Square offers Point of Sale software and payment processing (the means by which funds are transferred to your business bank account, for a fee, when a customer conducts a card transaction). You can get the POS app on any Android or iOS mobile device (tablet or phone). Though the POS software is free, it is packed with key functions that help you run your business smoothly, including a front-of-house and back-office suite of features. This is storekit's demo and walkthrough - we show you some of the features inside the POS app.
We get right into the nitty gritty, taking you through the Square front office (creating items, sales, refunds, discounts and receipts) and the back office (reports, inventory management, and staff permissions). Are you able to just buy the hand held terminal without the iPad-POS system and setup the menu on an Android phone or you have to buy the POS System stand and iPad..???

If you go with an actual merchant account such as like a clover for example you can. I’m not sure if you need this but I can help you.
Now it's 6% for invoices and non in person card transactions.
YES you can pass on those fees and lose CUSTOMERS. 🥲
@@davidt6816 You can set it up in a way for it not to be as high as 6%. I see a lot of businesses now and days going cashless 😩. This unfortunately is not good for a business nor the customer. From my experience a lot of customers don’t really notice the 2-3% charged to them from using a credit card. Gas stations do it all the time.

With a merchant account you can do this by charging the customer instead and save a lot on interchange fees. I can help you if needed.
As a subcontractor I want to reduce my fees from credit card transactions from 10% to 1.75%

What would be good for a nonprofit?
Hi Nate,
I don't think the fact that it's a nonprofit should necessarily affect the system you choose (unless you need your fees in gross for tax reasons, whereas Square charges net - i.e. before the money enters your account.) If you are in the UK, call our office in London +44 (0) 20 3874 1470 and we can ask you about your specific requirements. Square is a great choice. Alternatively, we can discount the reader for iZettle customers to just £9.00 - and the software is similar.

Can square get virus
Do none of these POS systems have desktop apps? My current shop setup are touch screen desktops, I don't really want to buy iPads if I don't have to when I've already invested in high end touch screen AIO's.

There's a number of web based systems you could use, and I believe there's at least one Mac app.... but I can't tell from memory whether these are designed to be touchscreen.

You don't have to buy an Ipad. I'm using BiyoPos for my touch screen desktop. Pretty cheap as well.
