We had so much fun doing demolition work and helping at Chiba Farmhouse! 😂 at Kyle being future president! What a great day it was meeting so many other people also interested in DIY Akiya renovation! Thanks Anton for the opportunity to contribute to shaping Chiba Farmhouse - Strangers are just friends you haven’t met yet!
Thank you all for helping out and thank you for watching! More Renovation and Japanese Houses coming. Sign up for my free newsletter and let me know in the comments what you want to see next! xoxo Anton in Japan
Congratulations on wrangling that many people and successfully directing them to a goal. The logistics and breakdown of the work is always the hard part, plus the worry of how much too big of an ask for volunteers. Instead of getting rid of the Kamidama maybe move it, or make a smaller one in another space, a Japanese house isn't complete without it best not to needlessly make enemies. If there isn't enough lighting on that side of the property I would put up a motion activated flood light and camera on the pole and in the future if you get an electric car you could add another drop to the garage to for a charger. Pruning and weeding everything is going to make that whole property feel fresh like a good haircut. Fantastic progress dude looking forward to more.
This reminds me of the way things worked in my grandparents' generation and before--a whole community coming together to accomplish a task: build a house or a barn, bring in a harvest and celebrate together with food.
Absolutely Fabulous, having free and enthusiastic helpers. I’m so pleased you were able to give a great group of people such an awesome day. Cheers from Oz❤️. I’m envious 🤣💚
I wish you all the best. I am a little sad that i am not in Japan. I LOVE cleaning and renovating and stuff. I have the feeling this Chiba house will be an awesome spot there, where people come together and do great things.
Amazing work guys! It's so inspiring to see people come together to save the haritage and more then that , bringing the meaning to part that feels lost . Can't wait to see how your vision Anton takes the shape. ❤😊
You just keep amazing me with how much interest and care you have been putting into this! That's such a great idea to bring people together on this, and it's also educating! I love it, you're inspiring and I'm so happy for you and all the positive things you've created for people.
Well done Anton and friends (strangers no more 😊) Sorry about the trees. 😕 Kenta just looks like the most capable but chill person based on what he said = boss😎, but also his shirt🍹
I hope I can come to one of upcoming events next year. It almost looks like cleanup events in our church or community. Everyone has something to work on and is very passionate about this. I like the pragmatism of some of these guys and they came up with interresting new ideas.
Hi, Anton. I've been akiya house hunting for half a year and has not be successful. I did look into Chiba but I don't know what is interesting in Chiba area. I was looking at Takasaki, Gunma. The property agent wasn't friendly, so the house hunting was unsuccessful. Probably I was not familiar with Japanese culture. I'm inspired by you, wanting to give back to the society in Japan. I prefer Takasaki for the train connectivity to Tokyo. Can you give me some advice on how to work with property agency?
How cool is it that you are giving these folks an opportunity to pick your brain about all of this. At the same time it is very cool they’re there to help. How long do you estimate this whole process will take? (That’s providing of course, that all materials are delivered on time.) How are you managing the ‘debris?’ How are you handling it different now than when you first came on the property? I did notice there wasn’t a pile of debris from the teardown. (At least not obvious to the camera. 😉) (The grilling looked tasty, but let Kevin know mustard 😋goes on hot dogs… at least where I’m from.) LOL…1 more thing… Have you considered getting and wearing a GoPro for all of this? It could be worn on a hat or somehow comfortably worn on your chest. Have fun!
I’m in Tokyo for the next 90 days. Definitely interested in buying an Akiya but unsure of making a GK and the house buying contract day. Signing up for your newsletter now!
thanks for sharing this video, you can't get across the true condition of the house in Shorts.... the building condition really is pretty rough! (now I understand why the disposal fees are so high! you need to tear out most of the house too, not just all that junk inside...)

I cannot be the only person who would love to take a vacation in Japan to work on one of these old beautiful houses!
I found you via Sundai Love, everyone should learn traditional construction for their own accommodations

About how many months do you need to improve an akita? I guess this depends on how much work is needed, right? In your case, how long?
