Thank you so much for the video. I am a fan of Lautner and was out in Palm Springs but I did not get a chance to see more of the architecture. I will have to schedule a trip to see this house. I also appreciate you showing so much more than the typical living room structure that most architecture books tend to focus on.
I lived below the Elrod House for many years in Palm Springs. It's an amazing property that can be seen from all over the Valley. The Chart House sadly changed ownership many, many times and then endured some dubious "accident" and was razed. Total travesty. But, none of succession of owners were willing to restore it. It was such a cool venue to eat in. :(
The house sits on a ridge above Palm Springs to the N & NW. The sun sets roughly in the direction of the best view. It seems to me that Mr. Lautner set the roof edges so low compared to the living room floor to block the sun's glare as much as possible. I'm guessing the mountains across the valley also block the setting sun.
is this House now a kind of museum? no one lives there i guess? too bad :] really gives me an essence of the 50's 60's...looks like a James Bond movie set kinda :]
The music was purchased from my local Apple Computer retail store in a package titled "Soundtracks For iMovie". It may still be available from Amazon.com - search for it.

That is an art installation. Don't know who the artist is or what the name of the artwork is. The imagery in the video was intended to capture the room, not the artwork.
John Lautner certainly went eons past Wright with a reinterpretation of modern by using concrete in such organic forms, and was not really fully appreciated to this day.
The Chilulhy sculptures really look awkwardly installed. It doesn't work. Whoever did this evidently wasn't looking to showcase anything beyond their own ego.
Cool house, it was spellbinding as a kid seeing it in Diamonds Are Forever, but I would not want to live in a bare concrete home. Not a fan of brutalist architecture.
Totally awesome. I love how the native rock is incorporated into the house. Also, the swimming pool.
*batman beyond movie cast* deserves 1M views

1:23 I love the disclaimer: Mr. Lautner was not responsible for the glass sculptures - LoL. Thx for posting! Cheers.
don't think they add anything to the room.
Great slideshow, with a lot of detail I had not seen before. Thanks

Beautiful place and forever timeless!
Now that's living! Thanks for posting

Love the house.
really love the step down bathtub and steam shower
I'm so proud of you great grandfather
Beautiful house.
how did you get on this tour and is there another tour one can sign up for?

When is the next tour>??
The Chihulyesque glass sculptures just look out of place in the Elrod House.
How come a building build in 1960s which design is similar to today? That's great!
it looks like a shopping center
I'd like to see a video of house builders' faces when you show these plans and ask when they can "start."
The CONCRETE walls are part of the arcitects expression. They are perfect.
If you like brutalist architecture, which I don't.
Many thanks for this slideshow, many parts of the house I had not seen before. How exactly do you get onto a tour of the house?
You are quite correct. Those "flowers" are going to give me night-terrors.

such a cool house. bambi and thumper beat up 007 in this place. ha
well, the carpets seem puff up in some rooms. Outside the cement walls need work or sealing.
Where did they keep WW ?
who did the music?

This house was used in Diamonds Are Forever. It's where the 2 girls in bikinis beat up James Bond.
Anyone else notice something unusual about the man sitting in 2:48?
It was featured in a James Bond movie.
John Lautner certainly went eons past Wright with a reinterpretation of modern by using concrete in such organic forms, and was not really fully appreciated to this day.
Music from Tarantino
One or two of those expensive Dale Chihuly yellow blown-glass flowers would have been sufficient.
@ 2:46 WTF is that!?!?! An Alien!?
Art, baby, art.
Mid century was so pure and fun before the hipster invasion.
That is kind of depressing house.
