I absolutely love that line when he's sitting in the Daro brig. He so deserved respect after everything he's been through! His personality is actually kinda sweet when he's not kicking butts!
One thing in bad batch season 3 is to see him wearing the full armor again (helmet and backpack), and with some of his old yellow markings. He will be badass af

They're still commandos, just used horribly by the Empire in universe and Dave Filoni out of universe for the purposes of fan service. Which isn't necessarily a bad thing as we get more information on some of the different roles which clone commandos do in canon, and we get to see the badass Katarn class armor again.

The only competent thing I saw them do throughout season 2 is to "evacuate" that town whose people saw the zillo beast and then neutralizing unarmed Wrecker with stun bolts. Scorch, of course, doesn't count. Fans wouldn't forgive them for embarrassing a delta squad member. As for their training it doesn't matter either, they already have all the skills, but yet can't hit a target right in front of them and get knocked out by one leg kick. I mean understand the plot armor issue, but if they just wanted to show TBB kicking imperials' ass they could just use tk troopers.

By "Scorch, of course, doesn't count" I meant that everything I said about commandos didn't apply to Scorch as, of course, he received a special treatment and remained a menace. Yes, the bad batch isn't your normal clone unit, but I think they're on the same mastery level as the average commando as it hasn't been established otherwise in any other source. Plus they use the same gear(katarn class armor and dc-17m), so it'd make sense for them to be on the same level. As for Gregor, well, he was outmanned 1 to 50? 1 to 100? And he managed to get them all and survive. I'd say it's pretty competent.
I honestly was actually glad to see him return, plus it makes sense if you were caught in an explosion you wouldn't expect to not have any internal damage

I would argue that hiding away from the empire for over many years after fighting against it and failing, all the while coming to the realization that all the Jedi and people he used to fight for are gone would do that to a person

So I’m assuming that rydonium explosion caused some brain damage that lead to Gregor’s chip never activating while also making him a bit “not all there”
Must've been injured from that explosion saving D-Squad. Tonsils likely, had to be taken out and would sometimes make someone sound different than how they were before.
