I like to think that the clones that were killed, were just a single group/cell of liberated clones and that there are more sprinkled through out the place.
They weren't really stripped of their personalities, though? We see numerous clones throughout the Bad Batch series, as well as various comics, who still have their personalities perfectly in tact, despite them all still having their inhibitor chips. Take Commander Grey's battalion, for example, with very few exceptions (Grey, Styles, Big Mouth, and a couple others) every clone in that unit has plain white armor.

They did not turn emotionless, rather the chips stimulated the regions of their brains responsible for processing stress. Basically, they make them permanently on edge. It's easy to see why someone who is on edge 24/7 would be unpleasent to be around.
@scoposteve8470 storm troopers are elite forces, they undergo harsh training with psychological conditioning, they are taught to dirsergard their wounded comrades in favor of the objective,to be competitive and be as uncaring as possible. @@adumbynamedconor5173 Honestly, I'm not at all convinced by the fan theory about "chips wearing off". This sounds like nonsense. Sidious would have to be stupid to order the Kaminoans to install chips in the clones' brains that would wear off after some time, especially since he had no certainty when the right time would come to issue Order 66. Moreover, in The Bad Batch TV series itself, when Hunter and Echo were talking in the corridor on Kamino about that the clones behave differently after activating the chips, Tech approached one of the clone soldiers to check it and based on his observations he clearly stated that "They seem the same to me". There is no reason to disbelieve the words of the most intelligent clone in the entire GAR who has always been based on hard data. I'm a huge fan of the portrayal of the clones as Imperial troops in this show. It reminds me of the old Dark Times comics and Battlefront 2 from my childhood where all of the stormtroopers were clones during the early years of the Empire.
Before the order, the clones had such unique personalities. They would look out for each other, care for each other, tell stories and make small jokes every once in awhile. now, they're just... emotionless. They have no cares, other than to serve the empire.
They still have their personalities, people just don’t want to see their lab grown slaves work under the empire. You can see it in Cody, Wolfe and Howzer alone.
@@kelvinbremont1341common misconception. In reality stormtroopers were just bellow clones in skill making the Imperial army more effective then the clone army.
They really didn’t tbh. Maybe the way they phased them out was immoral but haunting production in favor of human recruits was the best decision they could’ve made. They did not have enough clones to lock down the entire galaxy. After the clone wars the empire could no longer rely on local planetary militias like they did in the clone wars since the clone army was still too small to fight a handicapped droid army and have troops to occupy captured planets at the same time. With Stormtroopers that issue is solved. They had enough troops to occupy the entire galaxy while fighting a high intensity war with an enemy the size of the Separatists and they still had a lot of extra troops. The drop in quality is also not as large as some people make it out to be. The only flaw that was shared with the Republic was their militaries were destined for conventional warfare with another galactic faction, meaning they’d struggle against gorilla warfare and hit and run tactics. And even then the Rebellion struggled to gain any meaningful victory. Before Rebels contradicted it, the battle of scarif was the Rebellions very first major against the empire. Before that the empire was kicking their ass pretty hard. Most of their attacks failed, lots of their cells were being snuffed out, and their ships simply couldn’t compete with the imperial navy. It wasn’t until after Episode 5 the Rebellion could genuinely compete with an imperial fleet since they were able to build a pretty powerful navy.
I wish they showed more of the imperial clones woth color and watch them slowly get phased out as opposed to 2 days after order 66 their color is gone and 1 year later tk troopers are everywhere
that's because this is disney cannon, not the real cannon. during the return to kashyyk, vader's fist can be seen still decorated in their company markings of the 501st.
Fair, but I’m not sure it was because the writers were lazy, The clones have done their main job, and the emperor doesn’t need them anymore, so the empire is trying to phase them out as soon as they can. With the Jedi dead a major aspect of the clones command structure is gone and the clones are probably not in the best state after order 66, so this is the perfect time for the empire to come in and start making the clones less independent.
I mean, not every clone units had special markings. In fact, a lot of clone units didn't use unit markings and just had plain armor. For example, in Commander Grey's battalion every clone, with only a small handful of exceptions, had blank unmarked armor during the Clone Wars.
@@CloneCommanderCrater1102 Yes, and the clones that do have more personal markings were the ones who've ended up having become Commanding Officers, which required more intelligent flexibility, to command and also inspire their men on the field. I also have a real life explanation. Combat Units who are out on the field for years like the clone troopers usually end up modifying their combat gear and equipment for practical reasons as well as a slight breakdown of command. But once those units have to reintegrate back into their larger force, their commanders will usually force them to standardize and return to regulation. Examples: General Patton inspecting troops who fought the Germans and modified their tanks with concrete, wood, welded steel, and cement. He hated it all except or the welded steel reused from other tanks. But everyone was forced to keep their tanks normal. The famous Nose art Shark Grin on planes. Aside from mainland China's flying Tigers, the only one Fleet Carrier had a Squadron doing so during WWII. The Captain didn't mind and allowed them to do this, but when their Aircraft carrier was sunk, the surviving squad members landed on a new Carrier and the captain of that ship was outraged and demanded them scrubbed clean of the art. A similar situation fell on the Flying Tigers as they were incorporated into the Allied armies proper. And then you have troops like the ones the 20 years fighting in Afghanistan. Soldiers grew out beards and wore Ghutra to better relate and blend with the locals more. Many modified their rifles with duct tape, carved in text like proverbs, or had personally ordered extra body armor the army wouldn't provide. Well, there was a lot of back and forth between troops and commanders, some loose some strict, but a lot of it ended up being similar to what Clone Troopers would do.
In the first scene where the trooper ordered Wrecker around and called him Trooper... Wrecker is a Sargeant. The other clones were normal troopers... So yeah, they just went and said f*ck the chain of command
What sucks is for a lot of clones it seems like the chips wore off or stopped functioning at some point after the purge and many of them only stick around because they lack any other sense of purpose
The biggest tragedy of the clones was, despite all they did to distinguish themselves from their droid opponents, they ended up being just as programmed and enslaved. They're as much victims of Palpatine's grand plan as everyone else. That's one of the reasons I love TCW so much for making them so much more compelling.
Ironic, yesterday I watched a video on why Vader hated Clone Troopers after Order 66. Seeing the Clone Troopers what they are now may add another reason why Vader hated Clones; they are not what they use to be.
When the chips were first introduced, I hated the concept. I wanted the idea that they were just well trained. But after giving all the clones names and personalities, it became tragic. Everyone but Palpatine lost the Clone Wars.
the atmosphere here is depressing. We rooted for the soldiers all throughout the first show, saw lots of their lives on and off battlefields, and discovered their traits and qualities contrasting each other. Now more gray, colorless, and robotic ranks do the bidding of a regime- brutalizing civilians, sacking the homeworld, going on hunts in dark perilous places, and hardly recognizing former friends, or choosing not too; it was the end of everything they knew and loved .
my only complaint about this show was not resolving rex's separate clone rebellion before rebels... They could've wedged that in during the final episode...
What annoyed me was how Scorch and the other commandos were just so oblivious and uncaring to their brothers being imprisoned and experimented on by Hemlock. They were nothing more than meat droids, and scorch deserved nothing less than a blaster bolt.
Well, I have a theory as to why that is. Over the course of both Legends and Canon I've noticed the attitude differences between commandos. There are simply two kinds of commandos, there's the squad based commandos (Delta Squad for example), and then there's the task force commandos (Omega Squad, Captain Gregor, Commander Voca, and newest addition being Hilo from Commander Wolffe's unit). Squad-based commandos are completely isolated from other clones because they are meant to only work in groups of four, so anyone outside their group is literally either a threat or an ally they don't answer to, in other words they don't care about anyone other than those in their little group of four or less if any are killed. This seems to be the same mindset the Imperial Commandos have on Mount Tantiss, I highly doubt any of those commandos were task force commandos. Task force commandos, including squads of four, are commandos who frequently work with other clones and allied forces closely in large joint task force operations, often taking them under their command, leading to them developing a completely different mindset than squad based commandos. That's why the large majority of them defected, while the squad based ones very rarely defected, if not at all. The only reason Commander Voca didn't defect is because they kept him in a task force role under Vader's direct command.
@@brendangamble1206 There also seems to be a distinct unexplained difference in some of them as well. We've all noticed Mount Tantis Commando's have grey stripes on them, but it's never explained what it is. It's entirely possible Scorch and those Commando's were turned into Black Op operatives where NO order goes questioned.
The fate of the clones is far worse than what happened to the Jedi. Even 19 years later, the Jedi were still talked about and revered for their heroism and deeds to the galaxy; despite Palpatine's propaganda they were traitors. The clones on the other hand though? They got nothing in the end. There's no memorial for their bravery and courage. There's no sense they accomplished anything despite all the fighting they did. The galaxy forgets them and just sees them as third class citizens. Almost all of them end up homeless with nowhere to go. The ones who remain in service to the Empire are just trainers and are still looked down upon. In the end, the clones did all the fighting for peace and freedom for nothing. They're forced to be swept away by the Empire and left forgotten as a whole by the galaxy. And that's the real tragedy I feel of the clones; they were disposable in the end and they never knew it until it was far too late.
The show should have just been an Imperial clone show where they do cool missions. They could fight early rebels and Separatist holdouts. I also wanted them to keep their old paintjobs.
Eh not really, they never really fought to end corruption and enslavement from the start. The CIS broke apart from the Republics due to the Republics high control but poor management. The republic is very corrupt and their bureaucratic system is very inefficient taking way too much time for little to nothing to happen. While planet systems would suffer, politicians would squabble and argue in the senate. The CIS's goal excluding the sith secret plan was to gain independence from the Republic. To be freed from the oppressive republic control. The CIS consisted of systems that wanted less oversight from the galactic government, so they declared independence and then formed their own galactic government. In The Phantom Menace, palpatine literally tells the queen to suggest that the supreme chancellor would be deposed since the beuraucrats were too corrupt and had too much control and that the battle of Naboo would basically be ignored and her people suffering because of these politicians. Palpatine suggested a replacement, being he became supreme chancellor and not being influenced by bureaucrats, actually got things done The CIS is no means perfect and has corruption of their own, but the reason they broke off was because the Republic was bad, inefficient, and neglected the lives of people in danger. Palatine dissolved the Senate in A New Hope as it was mentioned in a scene. This reduce the inefficient bureaucracy and lead to direct control making issues more direct in it resolving. It why the rebels struggled so much and could only do guerrilla warfare instead of a full frontal offensive battle like the clone wars. The empire was VERY stable. The republic is painted as the good guys because they look cool, and have the Jedi working with them, but realistically, the republic wasn’t that good.

Unofficially, approximately twenty years after we were created, a special detachment of the Imperial 501st Legion was dispatched to Kamino, with orders to eradicate an army of clones that had been bred to take arms against the Empire. What's interesting he left planet Salecumi not when Grievous and his separatist droid army came there but decided to flee with his family after the planet was taken by the Empire and clone troopers arrived there. It was especially visible on Salecumi during the dinner with Cut's family and on Umbara where it has unitnentionally led to killing his own troopers after blidndly following Krell's orders. Also Fives told him about the chips before his tragic death and Rex didn't do anything to learn something more about them or to at least try to prevent the evil that was to come. I know he's a fan-favourite for many people and I don't want to say it's wrong but it seems to me that many people don't realize about Rex's flaws. Also it was extremely brutal order he gave when he ordered his troopers to execute Maul during order 66 - Maul was not a Jedi in any way and he shouldn't be killed. Rex willingly gave this order to his troopers without Sidious influence when Maul was a Prisoner of War there and there was no reason to kill him. He was locked in his cell and wasn't able to do anything on his own. Rex had good intentions for sure but was too naive and believed too blindly in the corrupted Republic which didn't even cared about him and treated him (and other clones) like an object for sale and use which may be disposed of when the owner wants.
Seeing the Empire with in days of order 66 are already scraping their star destroyers and various other warships just doesn’t make sense. It’s not like every place is pacified and theirs no need of them.
If I have to guess, the chicks that many are born with are still effective many long after order 66 and some still have long term control depending on which position and variant that clone is. That would explain why many Clone Commandos are loyal to the empire and their skills are hampered compare to what they were before the order. That is just my theory and explain why scorch behavior is so different from Republic Commando to Bad Batch.
We never get an exact description of the inhibitor chips' functionalities (as far as I remember, anyways), just vague references to its purpose (to control the clones' aggression, a statement which I believe to be true, if not necessarily the whole truth). My theory is that they act (at least in part) by tapping into the brain's reward system, giving the clones natural happy chemicals when they follow orders and removing them when they fall out of line. Knowing the liability things like "morals" can be, Order 66 would switch these systems into overdrive. Suddenly, following orders like you've done your entire life feels better than ever. In a sense, they're addicted to being "good soldiers" and their drug just became a lot easier to come by. It explains why the clones became more rigid and cold afterwards, since the joy gained from minor things like armor decorations and personal names would suddenly be outweighed by the loss in "stay in line" joy. It also slots nicely, I think, into how clones resisting the effect appear. They get shaky and seem to go weak in the knees, struggling to focus. Like an addict going cold turkey. It may be a stretch, but it could also explain why Cut, and clone deserters like him, seemed unaffected by Order 66. Such an implant would build off of existing ideas of right and wrong gained through years of training. In the case of Cut, his sense of right and wrong was, relatively speaking for a clone, completely out of whack. Following orders became a secondary goal for him once he had something greater to protect: his family. Just my own thoughts on the matter. There's probably a comic somewhere that says the inhibitor chips are actually derived from an ancient Sith mind control technique or something, but I think my theory works well enough.
disney cannon: virgin clones having feelings and being controlled by a chip when order 66 occurs. Legends cannon: chad clones being loyal soldiers and following orders without hesitation or with enthusiasm when order 66 occurs.
I don't think Palpatine ever turned the chips off after Order 66. The only time he would've let them go was when it came time to decommission them and phase them out in favor of the new Stormtroopers. Only then would the chips turn off, though I find it more likely that Palpatine killed them all rather than retired them. Regardless, the Clones would be forced to watch as their bodies move around like puppets, assuming they're aware of what's happening. They're slaves until Palpatine either turns the chips off and retires them, or more likely, kills them in secret.

When you look closely at the Clone Wars it becomes clear that in fact it was the Republic which was evil.
6:40 even though they became cold and emotionless after order 66, you can still hear the remorse and regret in the clone’s voice while he informs Rampart of his home world’s destruction.
I wouldn't say emotionless, more just programmed.

Ironic how, the clones of the Empire are actually how the Kaminoans envisioned their army? Cold, calculating, not questioning orders, brutally effective. But the problem is, even the Empire deemed the clones ineffective due to their cost, and their refusal to deviate from orders. And you know how much Imperial Officers love to bend the rules to gain an edge.
Funny about cost when cloning was too expensive and yet palps built a huge planet size battle station that was more expensive than cloning lol

I could be wrong but although they did turn emotionless after order 66, they still kept their sense of brotherhood and love for their clone brothers (unlike stormtroopers)
They did not turn emotionless, rather the chips stimulated the regions of their brains responsible for processing stress.
Basically, they make them permanently on edge.

Actually it's not the chip doing. It's exactly how clones are. As we can see in season 1 episode 12 from The Bad Batch TV series the clones are fullyt able to recognize what's good and what's evil and they can defect from the Empire just like Howzer and his men did. But it was their own choice when those other clones willingly decided to stay with the Empire. Stop saying the clones are innocent, they're not droids and besides certain orders like order 66 they are fully responsible for what they are doing. They even destroyed their own home - Kamino - without the need of activating the chip.
@@luke_crysure the effects of the chip were slowly wearing off as seen with Howzer and Cody. But at the same time it’s not like the clones could really go anywhere or speak up about certain orders without ending up like Howzer or any of the other clones that ended up at Tantis. Or getting killed off by those clone assassins as shown in season 1 with the clone trying to meet up with Chuchi. Now not saying all clones were innocent during the empire but at the same time with how the empire cracked down on disobedience early on into its life…eh, I’d just follow orders so I wouldn’t be on the chopping block basically.
Yes, clone troopers are not responsible for what they did under specific orders such as Order 66, but apart from these special orders, they had complete free will and the ability to choose their own actions. They knew what's good and what's evil which can be see after they destroed Kamino - their own home. Each clone is fully responsible for voluntarily remaining with the Empire and for any criminal acts they commit other than those under Sidious's special orders. It's high time to accept the reality and stop pretending that clones are flawless.

I'm a huge fan of the portrayal of the clones as Imperial troops in this show. It reminds me of the old Dark Times comics and Battlefront 2 from my childhood where all of the stormtroopers were clones during the early years of the Empire.
Same is cool to see this become a reality
Except that in the disney fanfic, the empire got rid of all clones like two years after ROTS. I hate this.
Before the order, the clones had such unique personalities. They would look out for each other, care for each other, tell stories and make small jokes every once in awhile.
now, they're just... emotionless. They have no cares, other than to serve the empire.
This makes Palpatine such a hatable character after what he did to those clones.
The New Clone Commandos feel so.. hollow, empty, creepy. Like those visors are their faces. Especially when you see them skulking around in the dark.
The only emotion from Wolfe, Howzer, and the clone acknowledging his home on Kamino being destroyed
They still have their personalities, people just don’t want to see their lab grown slaves work under the empire. You can see it in Cody, Wolfe and Howzer alone.
The clones literilly became what they aimed to destroy.

@@ThespianPrince13 exactly! The civilian stormtroopers were corny!! And they couldn’t shoot straight lol!!!
@@scoposteve8470 Yes, exactly Stormtroopers are not as strong as clones but their army is. Like in the real world.
@@busydarthnooox8290 honestly they are more then as strong, they far surpassed the clone army in power

that's because this is disney cannon, not the real cannon. during the return to kashyyk, vader's fist can be seen still decorated in their company markings of the 501st.
Examples:
General Patton inspecting troops who fought the Germans and modified their tanks with concrete, wood, welded steel, and cement.

The biggest tragedy of the clones was, despite all they did to distinguish themselves from their droid opponents, they ended up being just as programmed and enslaved. This is what legends clones used to be and I love it. No more quirky over the top clones. Just actual battle hardened elite soldiers.
Finally, the clones as they were finally meant to be.

To think the clones were fighting to end corruption and enslavement, now they spread and enforce it now. And For What?
If they were fighting to end corruption they would have joined the CIS when the war started.
Palpatine suggested a replacement, being he became supreme chancellor and not being influenced by bureaucrats, actually got things done
The CIS is no means perfect and has corruption of their own, but the reason they broke off was because the Republic was bad, inefficient, and neglected the lives of people in danger.
With the Order, they killed not only the Jedi but most clones as well. Countless personalities erased, turned into husks of men.

Officially, there never was a clone rebellion on Kamino. Unofficially, approximately twenty years after we were created, a special detachment of the Imperial 501st Legion was dispatched to Kamino, with orders to eradicate an army of clones that had been bred to take arms against the Empire. Our mission commander, an expert on the inner workings of Kamino, was a young bounty hunter named Boba Fett.

@@aaroncook6404 It's my pleasure. Well it's hard to say which clones are innocent because we don't have full knowledge about their all actions or missions but I think Cut Lawquene is a good example of a clone who's truly innocent and thinks logically. He willingly refused to fight for the corrupted Republic which wanted him to die on the battlefield. He has left the GAR and started his own family with Suu and her children, was living his peaceful life. What's interesting he left planet Salecumi not when Grievous and his separatist droid army came there but decided to flee with his family after the planet was taken by the Empire and clone troopers arrived there. Which means that it was not the Confederacy the biggest threat to him and his family but his own "brothers". But yeah, when you ask me Cut Lawquene and Slick are my favourite clone troopers.
Yeah cut is a good example where do you stand on captain Rex I know he’s my favourite and I would see him as a good one
@@aaroncook6404 You see I have problem with captain Rex because he seemed to blindly follow Republic protocol.
The Empire isn’t scraping their Star Destroyers; rather, scraping and repurposing Venator parts in order to create Star Destroyers.
Is it just me or did that commando that got eaten by the Zillo sound a lot like clone commando boss?

I don't think Palpatine ever turned the chips off after Order 66. The only time he would've let them go was when it came time to decommission them and phase them out in favor of the new Stormtroopers. Only then would the chips turn off, though I find it more likely that Palpatine killed them all rather than retired them. Regardless, the Clones would be forced to watch as their bodies move around like puppets, assuming they're aware of what's happening.
They're slaves until Palpatine either turns the chips off and retires them, or more likely, kills them in secret.

@@mohammadsabir7600It took away the agency of the Clones in committing Order 66, making them victims of Palpatine instead of willing servants to The Empire
Star wars is supposed to be a tragedy, 'saving' the clones ruins that
It’s sad what happened to the clones after order 66
Bad batch without omega is so awesome 😢
They lost the small quirks in their individual voices, most don't have names anymore, and there's no individuality. The Republic's finest, reduced to being just numbers, when all most of them ever wanted was to be their own human being. I'll never hate the clone army. I danm sure feel horrible knowing their fate though.
