The fan on my SLK320 stopped working. I took it out of the car to check it and found one of the connectors to the motor housing was a little loose. I plugged back in to the car and turned it on and it would work sporadically when I wiggled the wire. Turns out the solder connections had come apart inside the motor housing (like he shows at 2:55) The way my unit is made it's very hard to get the housing off to re-solder the connection. So I removed wire and carefully heated the connector with a micro-torch for a few seconds, which remelted the solder and restored the connection. Now it works like a champ! I was about to buy a new fan, the fix cost $0. I don't know how long it will work, but it's working now.
Hello everyone. I just wanted to share how I got my blower motor to work after it started to work intermittently. Just to let you know, I did replace the blower motor voltage regulator. But the AC would still only turn on intermittently. So what I was going to do was the repair in this video but I couldn't get that top piece off after drilling. I left it on and took a large can of WD-40 and prayed the heck out the unit on the inside using one of the top holes so that the electronics, brushes and electrical connections were on the bottom. The WD-40 cleared all the dirt and grime that had accumulated inside. The residue was black and was cleared out of the unit with the WD-40. That took care of the cleaning on the inside and also cleaned the electrical contacts of dirt and grime. Remember I used an entire can and prayed multiple times to clear all the dirt and grime. Let the unit sit in the sunlight for a day before you continue. This will evaporate the WD-40 and ensure that you do not damage the unit if the contacts are still wet. Then came the most important part, that is also addressed in this video. You MUST clean that copper contact post where the brushes come in contact with. That post gets so much grime and oxidation that the electrical contacts become unreliable. Since the WD-40 took care of the dirt and grime, you have to take a small flat head screwdriver and scrape the metal to get it shiny again. Take the driver and carefully scrape top to bottom. Clean one section at a time by turning the fan portion. Once the electrical post looks shiny all over you will guarantee that a strong electrical connection with the brushes will be established. The guy in the video even mentioned that he was getting double the current than before the cleaning and scraping. My unit started working immediately after installation and even seems to be stronger than before. Its been good. These units are well made but unfortunately get dirty over time and do need to be maintained. Mine is located in my 2000 Mercedes Benz S-500. Good Luck everyone!
I'm going to follow these guidelines. You can also change out the brushes but mine look like they have a good amount of life so I'm actually going to change out the spring just to have good pressure. Thanks for this update.
Very instructive, thank you for the thorough effort ! It seems however, that there is a second blower in there, clearly audible when switching on the ignition at 21:47. My MB is a E-class 320CD (W211.022). I hope it does not have two blowers as well. :-)
Hi could u please do another video of replacing or repairing the rear a/c air blower motor of w220. My ride has 2 a/c. With separate controls one in front 2 in rear thanx
The hammering you were doing is what we call peening over the metal. I just bought a 1999 E300 turbo diesel with 101k miles on it. The last owner had it for 12.5 years and put only 4000 miles on it. Apparently blower not used enough and has gotten frozen in place. I will expose it and tap it a few times with a soft rubber mallet and see if that frees it up.
For those of you out there that see this comment, I posted a long video on how to remove the W124 dash and how to replace the vacuum actuator pods for the climate control. th-cam.com/video/0SU6CFb0W7s/w-d-xo.html Just trying to spread the word. Note that there are only 2 PN's left of the 6 PN's that are available from Mercedes or aftermarket. On the dual diaphgram pods you can buy one of the two pods that are available, remove their arms (white plastic just snaps it on), and you can take off the old arm from the old pod and transfer it to the new pod. NOTE: This trick only works on the dual diaphgram pods. Last resort you can get just the rubber diaphgram inside the pod that you can replace at a place called Performance Analysis in Tennessee, although you can't order on their website. You have to call them. Their part numbers for the two different diaphgrams are 2010 and 2020. On the W124 and W126, you can use one of their diaphgrams on the "center" pod, which is a single diaphragm. They are inexpensive, not sure how long they will be in business from the conversation I had with them. . Get a bunch and store them the rest of your life!
I have a 07 gl450 and sometimes when I have the heat on it smells like burning smell coming from the vents? Happened once in a while, can it be the blower?
why buy a new one if you can fix the old one in 30 mins? new one in SA is $400. Still need to fit a new one which will take 15 mins so i dont get your point. Maybe if a new one was $10 i would agree.
The point is you have no warranty, the video is 28 mins long so I assume it was over an hour for the " repair ". And when it fails again you are no farther ahead.
Stephen what is wrong with you? Some people replace, some people repair. Personally I prefer to repair and if you do yourself and well done, who cares about the guarantee because you know it won´t break down anytime soon. Why not say, instead of wasting time, just bring it to the workshop. Sometimes it is best not to say anything than to make a proper fool of yourself. Personally I do appreciate people that make an effort to teach others.
@@MercedesBenzW124 you're right! Well oiled the used blower motor will last much longer than the new one with nearly no lube ... if the brushes are long enough! WD40 is really a light cleaning oil, not good for bearing lube! Heavy gearbox or engine oil better.... 👍🏻
Stephen why watch a repair video if you obviously don't want to fix it. I'm more confused that you spent nearly 30min watching a video to complain about the time involved. Most people get an enjoyment out of fixing these older cars but others like to get work done and have warranty.

just read on a forum if you got your service B done at the a/c whistle, most likely the cabin filter wasn't put in correctly
Very good explanation. My W210 E240 has a noise when the car moves or on uneven surface.

Hi sir, is it possible for you to service mine
Thanks, found the filter blocked and a bad connection on the motor.

doesnt sound like the blower
SA represent! My blower just stopped working for no reason and without warning. Seems to be intermittent so will try this.

after doing this several times i now use a bearing and retrofit the bearing into the fitting. Bearing is best.
since this video i have now started using a ball bearing as a retrofit.
Can you please tell me the dimensions of the bearing? I want to buy it before I open the blower motor. Thank you.

Why dont you show HOW you remove it???????
my bad, i should have.
So instead of replacing it and getting a warranty you spend how much of time repairing at home. Ridiculous.
