Worst thing as an Admech collector is that Forgeworld literally holds twice as many minis as we have in plastic. Last mini we got was Skitarii Marshal 2 years ago. If they "just" create rules for 40k and convert them to plastic they wouldn't have to bother with another release for years.
Fires of cyraxis was going to do this but they dropped it because 8th came out

Forge World used to be great when I lived in Nottingham, you could go into the store and look through the collection in person and talk to the staff about them, and the whole experience made the cost easier to swallow. I couldnt imagine the frustration of ordering a £200 tank across the globe to have it warped with air bubbles and spend 2 weeks getting a replacement
I live in Australia and see more and more FW counterfeits every year, for the many reasons you highlighted.
Replacemente? They don't longer do them, they just thell them to fill them with green past or try to straighten them. If you break it, the problem is your. Worst quality control than Chinese rip-off.

The most important part that GW can learn from Gundam is the grade system. They have a number of grades and that ideal would be great for GW and stand against the whole 3d printer. While 3d printer will have an impact, I think too many overestimate how much it will.
I have a 200 PG gundam and I do not regret it.

I think the decision to make models in resin at Forge World is mostly a supply vs price thing, both for GW and the customer. Injection molding has really high initial costs for detailed, well-engineered molds and only becomes cheap for the customer when produced in high quantities. Resin can be done in small batches and probably almost by hand, so if GW expects a model is not going to sell to the majority of their market because of how niche it is, manufacturing it in resin might actually result in a lower price. Injection molding also requires optimization of every single component for material flow and cooling, while resin allows you to make big solid hunks of miniature and not bother as much with engineering. I've done some design work with injection molded products recently and it's given me a much greater appreciation for the amount of effort GW puts into their miniatures. It is a miracle they can even get their minis manufactured at this level of detail and quality.

Absolutely spot on. Not to mention the enormous financial risk it would pose to GW to pivot Forge World into something like what Jay is describing. The entire company would need restructuring, supply chain would need to be reestablished, marketing overhauled, new leadership and staff hired, it would cost a tremendous amount of money when it is far easier to allow them to continue making lower cost resin kits from the proverbial garage.
I've never seen a video about a Forge World product that made it seem worth the value. Warped parts, bad mold lines, resin release agent messes. If I'm going to buy resin, why would I pay $1000 for off the shelf when someone could print a bespoke model for a fraction of the price. I think you nailed it when you said that it just doesn't seem fun, and getting a Titan should really be the highest quality kit they make, not the biggest lemon for suckers.
Years ago having a Forge World model was a way of adding a bit of kudos to your army, having something large and rare was a good way of adding the final touch to the army and the rules were usually pretty powerful.
Nowadays I think GW should take over the Forge World models (40k) and add the units to the codexes, they did it in the 5th edition Imperial Guard codex and it really added something fresh and new to the army; people have spent a lot of time and effort into buying and assembling these models but they are barely playable nowadays.
I feel the same about Blood Bowl, at leat the Big Guys and special player types, like Dark Elves Assas. or Goblin secret weapons.
The star players are cool and all, but as they are supposed to stand out from the rest of the team, proxys are as good of an option.
Doubt that's going to happen. Look at the Rogal Dorn. Completely new chassis.
If there were to be new Imperial Armour FW releases they'd make a conversion kit to give the Dorn less cartoony proportions, as well as varying functionality and weapons. But if FW is going away, I doubt the GW design team would.
I think it’s by design - GW has phased Forge World out slowly for the past decade. Fewer and fewer FW models are viable in game, and with the recent shift of 30k from forge world over to the GW side, I don’t imagine ForgeWorld will be around much longer, at least in its current form.

I built and painted a forge world Tau Manta on commission.
It was an absolute nightmare to straighten, heat and bend,and shave the parts ready to build. Other parts like all the small cannons I totally rebuilt using brass tubing and brass fishing trace crimps. In the end it came out fantastic but had some of the worst casting I've ever seen and I've built hundreds of resin models from WW1 and WW2 tanks to Warhsmmer etc from manufacturers all over the world.
I've seen things you people wouldn't believe. Forgeworld models on fire off the shoulder of GW. I watched bent resin kits be opened in the dark near my post office. All those moments will be lost in time, like the over exorbitant cost of these warped models and my now empty bank account... :P

The bit that pisses me off is that if you ask a GW employee “why does FW use resin?” they’ll say “because plastic sprue manufacturing is really expensive”… which is correct… but that means resin is cheaper… and yet they charge more for resin 😑
As stated in the video, FW uses resin to create higher quality figures. They fail at that, but that's the purpose. Would love to see a source on your "quotes"
Injection molds cost 6 figures, but they make a lot of product. FW models are essentially hand made resin castings from silicone molds. Cheaper to start, but slow and requires expensive labor.

I started building models with gundam, and man nothing compares to building gundams. Seeing the pieces clip together making a bendable arm or leg is really satisfying.
Legos beat Gundums by a long shot.
FYI if you take the height of any GW mini and multiply it by 50/127 (ie. shrink it down) and it becomes 1:144 scale just like some of the gundams. The scale of play also shrinks from 1" to 1cm.

making titans into gunpla style kits is a brilliant idea. It would make them take MUCH less time to build, and like you said, would give so many posing options. It would be a win-win!
If they were to do plastic Titans with clear plastic glowy bits, I'd like them to be just plain uncolored plastic. Wash with a fluorescent paint/ink and you can tint the bit however you like! But yeah, as someone who has bought multiple things from Forge World, their stuff is hella expensive that gets more and more obsolete every year.
I would definitely buy a titan if it was made like a Perfect Grade mobile suit. It would be so much fun to build

Bandai's model kits, especially their MG and RG kits, are pretty much the best model kits you can get, hands down. GW could learn A LOT from Bandai... Including how to price their products better. :D
If you compare the Japanese Yen against the English Pound, it becomes more than obvious as to why Bandai can sell their products so cheaply.
@@emperorzombie1420 you do know people get payed at about the same rate in Japan and England right? The actual value of the individual units of currency is not representative of pay at all.
That has to be the dumbest thing I have read today and that’s including someone saying TYT are honest.
Conversion rates do mean next to nothing, sometimes, HOWEVER someone getting paid $10 an hour is not applicable for the Japanese yen. I get paid $26 and change an hour and converted to the US dollar that’s more than what they are in our industry.
Also, 1 English pound is 158 yen. It’s also 1.21 USD and 1.73 in dollerydoos. Everyone DOES NOT get paid “at about the same rate.”
Japan has some pretty good quality materials for a reasonable price and they are very much capable of out performing most everyone on quality if not quantity. Forgeworld and GW as a whole need to rework prices because $3k for a questionable quality Titan is an absolute joke.
I remember ogling at the FW sculpting masters they sold - a scaled-up version of an official GW sculpt which they used to then resize and make moulds out of. There was at least a Lizardman Temple Guard and some Space Marine busts available at one point. Stuff like that is what I'd want from Forge World, not some tank conversion kit (tank sold separately) that has rules in yet another book and most likely cannot be run in normal games in stores or events. That's also priced sky-high and lacks quality control over any garage resin-model company that does unique, hand-sculpted large scale models for around half the price.
i’m actually surprised GW hasn’t made most of these already. can you imagine if they made a titan in plastic for half the price? also i have been binging that titan video later so this is a nice follow up.
Honestly, I think GW/Forgeworld takes kinda pride in the fact, that they can sell absolutely shitty products for a fortune to people completely out of their minds. Selling us better quality at more reasonable prices would just make their balls tickle less.
Their shareholders probably love recent profits I expect.
The problem with Forgeworld is you don't even get the quality. You're absolutely paying through the nose for these unique stuff, but the quality isn't even there.
I get better quality casts out of other resin manufacturers that charge half the price or less.
You were spot on when you say Forgeworld almost invented the recast market. For 1/4 the price I get frankly a better product. It even arrives from China faster than it does Nottingham (I'm in the UK).
But Forgeworld is also suffering because their principle niche - small runs of niche, high quality models, has a lot of overlap with 3d printing.
It's still a workable niche, certainly. But they really need that price and quality to be there to justify it.
Most of the things fw make just isn't deemed viable for production in injection moulding, which can cost staggering amounts per sprue to set up with that cost paid back over time.
Fw stuff is things that are just too big for their injection machines mostly and limited runs. It is very time consuming and toxic to work with, and the niche nature of it all adds to the final price. Bearing in mind that the UK has minimum wages, the items from recasters have much lower wage overhead and no real r&d or sculpture budgets to care about either. There have been some suggestions made that the Russian and Chinese recasters are linked to organised crime and potentially people smuggling, how true that is I have no idea.
@D827 Kelly a lot of these resin manufacturers are in 1st world countries like the UK or US.
FW is working with massive margins on production of individual kits. If people like Anvil Industries (UK based) can produce literally flawless resin casts at half the price Forgeworld does, Forgeworld can too.
Also a lot of stuff FW produces could be plastic injected if they wanted. Plastic injection molds aren't even that expensive - they're high triple figures, low four figures. That's signficant for small companies but GW is gigantic, 10x the size of their nearest competitors. Even their "niche" products could justify plastic molds if they wanted to.
With the quality of some recasts now, once painted you'd never even know they aren't forgeworld.
Many of the recasts are perversely of better quality when a recaster's put the time and effort into fixing the issues with the original before making their working molds..
The downside is, if your thinking about buying something you suspect is a recast sight unseen... you've no way of knowing if you're buying from someone that actually cares about the models they're selling or just in it for a quick buck throwing out any old tosh thats vaguely passable..
FW needs proper QA on their products. The kind of completely warped and partially unusable parts they sometimes send out to customers are unreal, especially considering the cost point. Yes, I know, resin can be heated and re-shaped, but this should not be the norm, especially when I can easily print parts myself, with a better quality than they can provide.
Man, I know I'm a biased fan. But your vision for where forgeworld should sit in the market if freakin genius. With the forgeworld basilisk being pretty much identical to the GW basilisk, but slightly better ruleswise, forgeworld and GW are stepping on each others toes too much. And the prices for poor quality warped, bubbled resin....
Gundam Titans and full sized chain swords would be a dream come true
The Joytoy line of 40k dreadnoughts hurts my brain, because they’re larger than a Forgeworld Titan, beautifully painted and even weathered, fully possible, and if you drop one it won’t shatter like glass, which I cannot promise for a Forgeworld Titan. And yet, they retail for < $200. You could have full sized 40K Titans for the price of a Baneblade, but GW has a way of doing things, and apparently only allowing giant versions of 40K models is their way. (I fully expect to see the Knight Titan by Joytoy used everywhere as a Warlord Titan, whenever it begins to exist)
That Sazabi conversion is siiiick.
FW prices should be cut in half by minimum taking considering the quality of the kits. Their quality control is worse than EAs games
Fun fact: there are plastic kits made as replicas for fw resin minis. It kind of started with new Titanicus. The Titans are downscaled from 28mm and reworked digitally to fit unto a sprue. The same way would work for the larger 28 mm models. That it is possible was shown off by the new 30K plastic sets sold by... tada: GW. The same yields for AT stuff.. still most of the mechanicum titans could only be bought at FW in resin. Sad but true. The flashes and bubbles on AT size Armiger an Moirax are just a mess.

Easy, drop all the forge world pricing across the board by 15-20%, they actually use a high quality resin, pre soak and clean off the mold residue from all the parts before their sealed and ready to be shipped. Problem solved.
Cutting the price still doesn't solve the problem of many of the models being a pain in the ass to work with imo.
The amount of cursing I've done over bent / brittle parts / warping / weird "engineering" is not in any way compensated for by a 20% price cut at least. 😬
I still say that if Forgeworld switched to being in-house manufacturing of plastic minis, it makes sense to keep it around. As such, I think Siocast makes a ton of sense.
GW/Forge World need to look to Wargames Atlantic for a good business model. Wargames Atlantic have recently launched Atlantic Digital producing upgrades and trialling new factions or special models. Forge World is big enough to selling STL's and offering a 3d printing service for people who don't have printers. It also means that models will never have to be withdrawn so if you are building an army that is upgraded in the future you will still be able to buy parts for your legacy army.
Print on demand is really where they need to be at this point.. direct STL sales would be the icing on the cake but as part of the GW group I can't honestly see them being allowed to go that far, such is GW's hatred at the idea of someone else making a buck off of their IP, even at the cost of customer good will fighting against it has caused them..

Forgeworld, as it is now, is the equivalent of buying a BMW… “Look! I have money to burrrrrrrrn!”
Considering the quality of Citadel plastic minis today, it's shocking that Forge World are still making minis which where a pain in the arse back in the misty past. Resin was always a crap material. It should only ever be used when you don't plan to sell enough that metal or plastic dies become financially viable. The problem is that you then lock yourself into the difficult and time consuming resin casting process which basically ensures you'll never sell enough to warrant going plastic in the future. Imagine how many plactic, poseable, mostly hollow Warhounds they could sell at £500.
I've been feeling for a while that GW are beginning to wind up Forge World. So many of the minis FW have made are going out of production and not coming back. Likely due to mold breakdown but none are being remade. I'm hoping that with DKoK being put in plastic we get a wider release but I'm not fully hopeful.
I've bought most of what I want from resin Krieg, but I'd be sad to see the FW line go away. From what we've seen from the plastic I don't like the direction they went with. Krieg aesthetic just isn't in line with the GW design studio.

@@Deadjim17 They look significantly different. The Kill Team are like action heros with heroic proportions. Huge rifles, big bulky shoulders. They eyes are also really shallow (like what they did with MKIII Marines going to plastic). And generally they look less realistic and what I would regard as more "goofy", with their overall look.
And they look less crisp than the resin ones, but that aside I think the design issues are the bigger problem. You can see a lot of differing preferences for aesthetic that FW has had over the years. Take away FW as a separate entity you just get what GW is offering.
Some, maybe most, don't notice or don't care. I do though. I'd rather spend a minute scrubbing mould release off a model I like that just put together a model I don't care for. I'd just pick a different hobby at that point.

Honestly, GW has to jump on the bandwagon of utilising home 3D printed bits. They need to recognise that the most valuable thing they hold is an IP. If forgeworld sold some of their little kitbash bits as STLs, a lot more people would go to them direct rather than third parties.
Way I see it is that unless you are going to a tournament and only Official GW/FW products can be used then you don't HAVE to get the models from those companies. You just get something "like" it. I remember back in 2nd edition that GW encouraged you to scratch build or ideas for customising and these led to many a great Ork Battlewagon converted from an Airfix model tank or something. People want to do this and like doing this. With the rise of 3D printers FW is pricing itself out of business, GW too to some extent because if it's just you and a group of friends who are all into 40k or whatever then you could just agree amongst yourselves what represents what.
I just started collecting Orks to get into the game, and the frequently-competetively-used Grot Tanks and Warboss on War Bike are both locked to Forge World for ridiculous prices. I don't plan to get into tournaments any time soon, but it would be nice to have those available in plastic.
As a gunpla custom builder/painter coming from that to minis; doing a Titan or some vehicles as modern Bandai style units would be really smart. It would be easier to custom color with parts separation. And for kits like the Titans they could get away with Perfect Grade pricing in the range of $200.

@@frannyfranfrancis hell, at least they need to put something like the Tenacious UV resin in their mix to make the parts less fragile. There has to be better materials science applicable to the product.
Main problem I have is my local russian recasters do the same quality FW does at 1/6-1/7 the price (shipping included). Both are using resin casting material, but one is better quality than official one, due to smaller production and better quality control.

Titan Gundam plastic model kits (gunpla) is a good idea, but honestly only if Bandai does it. The reason gunpla are so great is because Bandai has mastered this craft. If Forge World made them, they might be at least better than resin, but no where near the kinds of kits Bandai makes.
If the titans were assembled like a Bandai kit I would actually buy one. Some easier posing and significantly less weight sounds great. They’d save some money compared to Bandai too since they wouldn’t be doing multi color sprues.

In a world with UV Resin 3D printing being so accessible, there is no reason for overpriced Forgeworld models to exist.
I really liked looking at all the old forgeworld imperial armour books just because of how they were presented, being like an in-universe history book rather than the ad pamphlets codexes tend to be. It's a shame that with Alan Bligh passing away forgeworld lost a lot of its momentum and are now pretty much just horus heresy pauldron makers..
I would love gunpla style for Imperial Knights too. I have a friend who sticky tacks his Gunpla models to bases for Knights proxies.
Forge World, pay way too much for warped low quality resin kits.
It’s honestly insane how expensive Forge World is considering how good 3D printing is these days, and way cheaper even if you don’t have a printer and buy it from people on eBay or Etsy.
The viability of 3d printing as a home hobby and as a commercial venture are two very very different things. The current fw resin models are very time intensive and toxic chemicals etc. The time 3d printing takes combined with the need to monitor the machines (they couldn't really leave them running overnight I think).
GW is best sticking with injection moulded plastic, very expensive at the start, but ridiculously cheap in materials and continuing production and less labour costs and maintenance.
I think an aspect to consider is the possibility of quantity sold per kit. If they think something will sell 1/10th the units compared to another item, they prioritize the plastic for the bigger quantity item and let resin cover the smaller ones. Because they charge more for resin, it still makes it worth the effort to print them so they don't have to sell as many units to turn a profit on the sculpt, cast and even packaging. Someone did the math and decided that an item that though cheaper isn't going to be worth selling in plastic didn't mean they shouldn't not sell it at all. This one falls more into a market research scenario for me.
The idea of doing a solid plastic built titan in the style of a bandai gundam kit is just a great idea. The snap fit engineering and the ability to print parts in multiple colors and layers would make the process of building a titan a lot easier and more importantly cheaper. It's hundreds and up to thousands of dollars for titans, but you can get a similar sized and more detailed kits from Bandai and even Kotobukiya for a fraction of the price.

I think the issue with making plastic titans would be the costs of the molding process and the sheer number of sprues required.
edit: absolutely yeah I'd love to see FW make full sized props or even just the larger scale items like their old laspistol kit and space marine statue.
I kitbashed my Canoptek Tomb Sentinel out of beer bottle caps. I was sceptic at first, but now that it's primed and painted, I love it even more than the original! 🤘
Jay you are spot on! That would be amazing! They could have add-on sets of plasma effects and it would weigh a pound and a half.
One of the things that I feel really makes MODELING enjoyable is having higher and lower difficulty kits; on the high end you have multiple sprues just for the engine, which you build in miniature - that kind of thing, in the spirit of what you are asking for (real engineering and God forbid, quality) I think would be a perfect application for Forgeworld - tabletop Leggo Technique
That's kinda what Forge World already is though. Less compromising on detail but with a building process that's a little more involved. I find it very satisfying.
I want this, but with plastic Gal Vorbak, Argel Tal and the Mhagra Gal Contemptor because I LOVE how insane those models look and would love to buy them if they were both much cheaper and not in resin. Although saying that, I will almost definitely get a set of Gal Vorbak in resin at some point
The resin ones are really nice models. I also recommend checking out Zardu and the Blade slaves as well.
I've always viewed forgeworld exactly like you say it's large lego it's a whole nother hobby in a hobby, can we give them props though they could easily have made forgeworld pay to win but the rules are shockingly bad so there's no pressure to save for a titan to take to competitions to be remotely competitive
FW is a joke. They have the worst resin on the market and now they don’t deliver. I’ve made a nearly $300 order and they randomly sent an email saying they haven’t sent my order and don’t know when they will send it. Asked in an email for more information two weeks later and still haven’t gotten a reply.
As a person who started with Gundams and got into Miniature Wargaming within the last year I was shocked by how much more expensive and less impressively engineered GW stuff is.
100% agree on the revamp for the large models to be more like gundams and props. FW could also easily have turned itself around, at any point imo by making a decent ruleset for their models with GW actively bringing them into the fold, not just the silly side stuff we got from 8th onwards (IE not a side joke) and adapting to 3d printing resin for good, high quality every time while also being able to create hollow parts to reduce weight. Examples for the rulesets.
Death Korps - Plastic Krieg would have been a great time for them to revamp their range of krieg models and bring back the fleshed out ruleset keeping them as a unique army. I can bet that a lot of players would have liked this (I would love that). Bring back centaurs, bring back grenadiers, carcass suicide engineers, etc. As it is now, they "claim" they make rules for the models they sell but dont, stuff like twin heavy stubber squads get no rules.
Admech - Both imperial and chaos sides could easily have a full ruleset brought forward for their engines from the 30k side. There was rumours/word of a potential actual book, fire of something IIRC but died with its author. Again, massive missed opportunity going back 6-7 years or so to when Admech was added to the tabletop. I would have happily lead a 40k army of robots with crazy mechanics for controlling them akin to the 30k rulesets. This would have been easier when the 2 groups had similar rules like 6th/7th ED, but still can be done. Not to mention the extra potential of "build your own bot" things. Vorax robots, tech-thralls, thallax cohorts....
Solar Auxillia - A cool, interesting looking force. With the addition of Guilliman and the primaris marines, these could have been brought back as a revamp new 40k army with Cawl/Admech resurging ancient weapons for an elite human force, or even be brought in as specialist units for a generic guard army (what guard player wouldnt want a full flamer squad or a squad of guys in power armour and power axes?).
This is just going off the basics of the imperial/human side of things, not even touching how they could work on orks, just release a bunch of crazy parts and bitz.
Off topic, but what model is that on the right at 5:40?
as someone who collects both gundams and warhammer(aos and 40k) gundam style titans would be cool, would grab a gundam style wraithknight in a heartbeat. If they were at least master grade quality for big things and high grade for dreadnaught sized models that would be a perfect fit in my opinion.
i was eyeballing a squad of Tyrant Siege Terminators for my Iron Warriors once, but 90€ for a 5 Man Squad is just crazy so i converted them myself for almost half the price.
but i would like to some stuff mentioned in the video like Props and stuff or maybe bring back the Busts they used to sell or Statues of famous characters, that would be cool
Forge World has always been a strange, out of place part of GW's business plan. When I got into the hobby in 3rd Ed, it was basically the mark of power gamers with stupid amounts of money to spend if you saw a Forge World model on the table. Maybe you'd stand a chance, but more then likely their Forge World model would just wreck face. It made for a lot of unfun games. So much so most folks I still play with will scoff at the idea of buying a Forge World model (outside of the Custodes players).
Also, just gunna say it... it's hilarious to see Jay in one breath complain about the price point of a Forge World Titan, and then in the next ask for most advanced construction techniques in order to bring them to the level of Gunpla kits. That's one way to make the price on your super niche model go up. 🤣 You think people aren't willing to deal with a Titan now? Even less would be, despite easier construction, at a significantly higher price point.
Maybe you've heard of a little game called Adeptus Titanicus...
The first obvious moment: Forge world makes models that GW does not produce.
The second: Forge world makes models that customers buy rarely, so it's not profitable to make plastic molds. But they still want to get a lot of money! How to get money from a small amount of products? Of course rise the prices!
"Aspect Shrine" or "Sept World" would be fun name ideas for a Bandai-GW Subsidiary/Subcontractor
A Titan to an experienced hobbiest is what I imagine Knights are for new hobbiests. At least for me, I painted my first Knights last year. 1 Chaos Knight Desacrator, and a Knight Castellan.
Those for me were weeks long projects, intimidating, hard to put together, but ultimately incredibly rewarding, I learned a lot about building models and with it's large armor panels (at least on my Knight Castellan, I was able to brush paint large sections and be a bit messy and actually enjoy the process more than say..... Painting a Cadian or a CSM. But after doing those, I did get the urge to try something even more grand.
I did look into TItans, but honestly, I have no desire to work with resin models. If Titans were hollow plastic like the Knight is and CHEAPER than they are right now. I think we would see more Tyranid Biotitans, Warlord Titans, T'au Mantas, and even 30K Primarchs, if not in games, than at least in people's collections. And that would be a beautiful thing.
They stealth removed all the AoS stuff except for demons that work in 40K...

Forge world needs to upgrade their 3d printing. To many 3rd party make the minis 100% better and not be frail/warp as forgeworld models become. It annoys me to pay 300$ for a model to see the bits warpped/broken or missing from a company like this
I'd love to see plastic Titan Crew/Moderati & Princeps to go along with the plastic Titans. And plastic Secutarii and Titan Tech-Priest.
Plastic Wraithseer and Repressor kits are also my dream. And plastic Wasp Assault Walker. And plastic Elysian Drop Troops. And plastic Knarloc Riders and Great Knarloc.
I've watched a lot of videos of Forgeworld builds and I don't think I've seen a single one that didn't have some kind of major flaw or fault. The quality control and customer support you get with your astronomically expensive kit is honestly shockingly poor. I've seen $1200 kits full of warped parts that don't fit together covered in mold lines and toxic dust with major components missing from the box and misprinted instructions that aren't even legible. At that point you're probably getting a better experience buying from recasters and 3D printers.
It sucks because Cerastus pattern knights are locked up behind forge world and as someone who’s fairly new to the collecting, building, and painting part of warhammer, I want those really cool looking models, but they’re $330 and people have told me that resin is so much more difficult to work with that it just doesn’t seem worth it. I like the questor and dominus knights just fine, don’t get me wrong, but just knowing there’s another kind out there, one that’s just as cool looking, that I don’t have bothers the hell out of me
I like your idea about making titans like gundams as I’ve never quite liked the style of gundams for some reason but I’ve always wanted to build one. So it would be awesome to build a 40k titan like a gundam.
If you love militaristic, utilitarian looking gunplas, then you will love the Zeon faction designs. Especially the Zaku 2

@@epickingedward7378 if you looked at the original 1979 version, ofc it looks kinda wacky. But the cooler flashed out version that you might like is the Origin Zaku2. Or since you liked the halo mantis, how about militaristic GMs. Like the Gm striker, Gm spartan, Gm Kai
@@irfandanial1094 I looked up the orgin one and he looks cool, but the only bit I don’t like is that fin on the head. It seems though it’s optional or something cause one image doesn’t have it. I’m editing this last bit cause I’m confused on the difference on the spartan and striker it’s really odd when I look them up I get alot of conflicting images. That being said I like all of them execpt the spikey head one.

I agree, focusing on big kits in plastic and as a distribution hub for all non miniature things 40k / AOS sounds like a good purpose for Forgeworld 😁
The idea of a Gundam style titan is amazing and I want it, but you know damn well they'd probably raise the price instead of drop it.
My understanding is that it costs a phenomenal amount of money to develop and create the tooling and holds in order to mass-produce plastic kits in the quantities that GW puts out and at a level of quality that everybody will be happy with. FW fills a niche in that it creates obscure or boutique models where the sales aren't there to justify the expense mentioned above.
Plastic kits are created using injection molds that are crafted from steel blocks by specialised equipment. Capital investment is high, and requires factory floor real estate, but production costs are low so it’s great for high volume models. Resin can be done by people working on a few tables and lead time is shorter, but output is low.
The end result is a model which costs less to go from concept to mold, but costs more to purchase as an end product as sales are expected to be far fewer. Add in the fact that a good number of FW miniatures are hand sculpted (such as the Horus Heresy characters), means CAD can't be used to quickly create molds the way it is for modern GW plastic.
LOL I built a Tau titan out of leftover tank bits and a Bionicle ''skeleton'' as the initial frame from which I built from :P
I find it funny, I was talking to the manager at my local GW store about 6 months ago. I said the same thing, that GW should make plastic titans! It makes so much sense! He didn't think it was feasible but I definitely think it is.
If he doesn't think it's feasible, he's obviously never seen a PG Gundam.
At minimum the warhound titan and the eldar titan should be, I'd say the manta would make a good kit for it to, even if it was just because if GW was smart they could market it as a one stop buy for a tau army with the manta serving as your ultimate unit and your travel case all in one purchase

Honestly hearing about alllll the quality problems people experience even after paying the very premium price point is what kills FW for me. I overpay for GW miniatures knowing that at least the parts will all be there, look right, and be of good quality. Also why are their websites still so darn clunky???
FW is usless, GW should move everything in plastic, and Titans are cool because they look more chunky and real like human tech, Gundams are in the Tau and thats cool :)
As someone who got interested in mini painting BECAUSE of Gundam and discovering Imperial Knights, I would be spend so much freaking money on Gundam-style Titan kits. Shit would be amazing lol
Normally when I don't like something I just ignore it. But for some reason, I want to watch forge world burn.
I wonder if Forge World will replace their molded resin with 3D printed models going forward?
I dare to claim that all those FW fine casts could as well be made in plastic under GW... even 3D printed resin would be fine if they do it right.

I got into warhammer BECAUSE of gunpla and the tau reminded me a lot of mobile suits. Learning modeling and painting for warhammer is completely different to what Bandai puts out, but if GW tried for something easy like it I would definitely pick up kits
Actually do collect gunpla alongside my 40K stuff. Earlier last month I actually picked up the perfect grade unicorn Gundam and it's LED unit. It was expensive as hell but it was worth it
