Yeah, it's shittyness really shows through out the repair, but glad to see someone give it way more love then whoever the f designed it. A lot of laptop designs are crap, but all laptops that has been born to this world deserve love and care, even if the manufacturor doesn't.
6:43 you can see why the AMD graphics have failed on that motherboard. Just look how far away the GPU is from the fan and finstack! The heat has to go from the GPU along the whole pipe, which is only single thickness, past the CPU and to the fan. No wonder why it failed.
A word of warning: Disabling the dGPU like this is pretty much a guaranteed way to lose external monitor support as well. I am pretty confident that the HDMI and VGA no longer work now. That's not the biggest deal (especially since not doing this means that the laptop is junk), but you will be essentially forced to use weird USB-A video out adapters to connect to things like a projector.
nice I did this but what I did was turn two laptops in to desktop much like your idea build with MSI plants With wood and office tray cover love it I use in my garage thank you for your ideas and time Andrew 😊
Not bad, glad to see this in working order again. This reminds me of that Dell N5040 video you did before, where you took two Dells and made one working laptop from both.
I enjoy your videos and your great skill. It's nice to see someone that takes their time abd thinks about the build and what you want to have at the end. 😊
Hi Andrew , Nice work as allways .... Very professional, i would like to see how did you de solder the 2 condensators of the GPU... Normal iron ...or hot gun??? Big hug Andrew keep going with the briliant work that you do.
I had the same issue with a Dell Precision 3510. The AMD GPU is faulty. Once the drivers are loaded, the OS will BSOD or black display or hard lockup. If I disable the GPU in safe mode, Windows will boot fine.
I thought my i3-6100u was a lightweight CPU, but the 6006 is even less potent! Going to have to try that epoxy trick on my IdeaPad 330. Same crappy brass/plastic issues with the case.
I don't know if you can believe but, I removed my radeon hd graphics with (50% heat gun, and 50% screwdriver force) wich made the copper connections pulled like hair. So then I sand it with sand paper and the laptop is working with intel hd.
The problem is that HP tightens the hinges too much and it breaks away the plastic overtime! I saw the same happening on a lenovo ideapad, and i loosened the hinges on my machine, i can open the lid with 1 finger now and the screen just stays open in any position. It's like factory, why do they do that? Planned obselesence i guess
You cannot do this GPU disable on laptops that have g-mux chips (like the famous macbook pro 2011 15 and 17 inch). On those, you have to disable the mux itself
Those HPs are a pain in the butt. I had the exact same (graphics) problem you encountered twice. In both cases, only one exact driver version worked. Just as a hint :)
Hi Andrew! Been watching your videos since 2020. Big fan of your work. I just wanted to ask that I have a Dell Latitude E6410 with Intel Core i5 520M (35W TDP) and I was wondering if I could upgrade it to i7 640M (37W TDP) or i7 620M (35W TDP). They have same socket(PGA 1288) so do let me know which one shoud I go for. Waiting for response. Thanks!
Hi bro thank you for the support. I think you can do the upgrade, I think there is Dell Latitude E6410 available with i7. Most laptops with removable CPU are made to support upgrades just because of the price or pushing some model the factory will made more different variants. For upgrades you can check by your chipset, on google you can enter your chipset model and then in addition type "CPU support" it's easy to find
Hi andrew cam you give me some advice. i have two laptops one is Lenovo flex 3i Chromebook and other one is Lenovo IdeaPad S145 both are dead laptops the motherboard is not working and repairing it doesn't make any sense because it will cost too much so the windows laptop which i am talking about has a small issue two IC is missing on motherboard and display connector just because of that the laptop is not starting what should i do with this two laptops for recycle ♻️
I would get a hot air soldering gun to pull the GPU chip off & reball & resolder it back down before saying it's completely dead. Otherwise, I'd try to replace it.
Any good epoxy glue should do the job, I usually use Gorilla Epoxy Glue or Araldite Rapid (the red one) for such repairs. They're quick to cure though so you'll have to act fast once you mix the two materials together. There's also Araldite Ultra Strong (the blue one) if you want a stronger bond and don't want the glue to cure fast. Also get some masking tapes, it helps holding small bits and pieces in place while the glue is being fully cured.
Is there a way to fix my laptop slows to 2400mhz when Temps reach 80°c always and never go back up. Laptop is Lenovo thinkpad L470, 16gb ram, 500gb hard drive.
It doesn't work on all laptops, onmost higher end laptops the display is hooked up directly to the GPU. Disabling the GPU disables the display even if the cpu has integrated graphics. Do not buy cheap laptops to fix them unless you know how to check if you can do this before buying!
what should i doo i have the same laptop but after 3 - 4 days of repasting the thermal paste it wears off from cpu and collects on around the cpu ? help
men AMD mobile graphics chips are utter trash! i have a dell notebook that after only 3 years its Radeon R7 M445 die due to over hitting and the internet is full of similar stories, it's terrifying how often is becoming for AMD mobile graphics to simple die
If you also change the "A", "S" and "D", it'll look like it was intended. Well, besides the glue.
That's genius! Making the WASD different like gaming laptops.
Miss the intro & ending version like in the past years. Great job.
This is not the kind of laptops that worth the time wasting, but grate job as always !

Great job Andrew! Congratulations.

The QMERTY keyboard was always my personal preference as well.
Woah! This laptop is pretty similar to Acer E5-57x laptop although it's from HP company! Every single details of the design!
이게뭐야~!! 2대 녹여서 1대 만드는거 진짜 어썸이에요! 특히나 안되는 GPU 납땜 날리고 intel HD 그래픽스만 되게 만드는게 신기하네요.
Hello why add W key in reverse?
Because Mumbo not Wumbo? "Patrick Stars"
Qmerty 😅
The most efficient way
Mmmmm!
I, too, had the graphics driver issue
But I tried to reinstall some other old graphics driver. This is FYI if you like this I would really love it😊😊
I miss your projects where you make a desktop from an old laptop 😆 They were Ace 😆

Excellent work.
your content is very elegant and good
Nice and recovery from that scrap
frankendrew does it again!
One quick question, did you sell all those things after you done fixing it? Or you keep it as collection?
I had the same issue with a Dell Precision 3510. The AMD GPU is faulty. Once the drivers are loaded, the OS will BSOD or black display or hard lockup. If I disable the GPU in safe mode, Windows will boot fine.

that was a great job i just wanna say that on 13:01 you just flipped the w
Great work!

Why did you put that W upside down
W or M 😅
😂😂 the button mechanism of the donor keyboard appears upside down in the recipient one
Well fettled!👍👍
If I'm only installing 8 gig of ram., then I use two 4 gig ram., modules rather than one 8 gig., module.

could you do more videos about making a laptop motherboad to a desktop one
Hi Andrew! Been watching your videos since 2020. Big fan of your work. Hmmm, now, this IS strange.
You should 've re-configure the "configuration" resistors, that's the way it usually goes.
Nice vid!!

sell them for repair shop to ise as parts and buy a cheap thinkpad from ebay with i5 8th gen and a cheap ssd is the best combo
Too bad ,i got an Toshiba satellite m840 i7 3420qm and amd radeon 6770 series where's the gpu fail and there's no intel hd graphics
Have you ever tried to mod laptop parts and turn it into an HTPC or a small form factor pc ?
How did you know to remove the mosfet to disable to graphics card?
He speed up his talking speed, I haven't even put the vid into 2x speed and I can notice it
Great video! Would the GPU fix work on a 2011 Apple MacBook Pro 15" (A1286)? I disabled the GPU in software, but it is not a great solution.
MacBookPro8,2 and MacBookPro8,3 use MUX chips to switch graphics so you'll need to disable that instead.
@@OverTallman Oh, alright. Thank you.
I would get a hot air soldering gun to pull the GPU chip off & reball & resolder it back down before saying it's completely dead. Otherwise, I'd try to replace it.
I would have done a reflow.
going by the extra letters on the keyboards the machine appears to be from a former yugoslav nation
also the w key is upside down was that the m on another laptop
any recommend any glue that works best on laptop case? some glue makes the case brittle

U can use fevikwik and cotton
Can you fix acer aspire 9500 the dinosaur lapdesk

Do not buy cheap laptops to fix them unless you know how to check if you can do this before buying!
You've flipped the w that you fixed on the keyboard and now it's like the M
Ok, u have an old laptop, an Acer aspire 9810, and the GPU is having issues, please do u know any help.
what should i doo i have the same laptop but after 3 - 4 days of repasting the thermal paste it wears off from cpu and collects on around the cpu ? help
