Kinks - You Really Got Me Slightly more common girl / guy relationship but just as much passion 😉 With some brilliant lead guitar that back then we hadn't really heard before
Lola was released in 1970, it was way ahead of it’s time and was based on a true story. The Kinks manger was clubbing in Paris and he spotted a beautiful “ woman “. They drank and danced and it wasn’t until later he discovered “ Lola “ was a MAN!Also Lola was a transvestite not transgender.
Nope, no controversy. I remember the 60s and we all thought it a very funny song. Why do people think the 60s were the dark ages? The current generation are far more uptight.
@@x42brown Yes, I know that being gay was illegal. I'm a very old lady and I was there. But, there were subtleties. The law said it was illegal but ordinary people were quite laid back about many things to do with sexuality - they just didn't shout about it because they didn't want to get their gay friends into trouble with the police. And the thing about cross-dressing is that this had been a popular concept on stage for years in British society and we were introduced to the idea as children through the cross-dressing in our pantomimes. Our favorite character in the Xmas panto, which everyone went to see, was the Dame - a man dressed as a woman - we all adored her: we celebrated the Dame and so why not Lola? I'm sure this is partly why we became so accepting of the idea in real life and why we found Lola so amusing and why we weren't shocked. The song, btw, was based on a true incident that happened to one of the band members.
@@diamondlil7819 Sorry taking so long to clarify. medical problems. The 'Sexual Offences Act 1967' made gay acts legal in England this song was written at a time when the act was being tested and found to work.It basically said that anything consenting audults did in private was their own busness and nobody elses.
One other controversy, regarding a commercial snafu, was in the lyrics and necessitated a re-recording of one line in the song. In Britain, they must have been very copyright conscious; the "... you drink champagne and it tastes just like COCA-COLA ... " had to be altered to "... tastes just like CHERRY COLA." Whole song still works, for sure.
Your face when the penny dropped..... Absolutely classic🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Imagine how that went down back in the day😜
I love it, you caught on early
The mixed up face is a mash-up pic of the founding brothers of The KinKs, Ray and Dave Davies. Nice reaction!
