    people defending her forgets how America treated a Indian diplomat in airport checking way back some years ago however even local British citizens act like they are privileged in India. colonial ego thinking must be stopped and follow the rules of the land they are intended to go will be better for them.

      Most of the ‘colonial’ thinking comes from Indians themselves. I’ve seen for myself, how they want selfies with random white people. Attitudes of Indians toward white and Indian people are the most laughable.

      Why is PGP banned in many European countries, including one I'm living in? Because it's used to communicate anonymously by the criminals. And criminals come in all forms. Britain, the gang leaders and it's gang members must realize that the era of their crime is going to be over soon

      @@avatarnaya you are confusing satphones with Shortwave radio. Satphone require clear line of sight with satellite and will not work in forested areas.
      Also you cannot simply use a Satphone, neither in the US nor Canada. Once you buy the phone and the service tied to it, you HAVE to activate service. (Iridium, Thuraya, Inmarsat.. whatever) and have to register the SIM. Yes Satphones use SIM as well. This activation and registration process will then have your entire identity and credentials available, if and when law enforcement needs to track yoy.
      So please stop spreading nonsense information.

The Customs at Delhi Airport could have given her a warning and informed her not to bring the wireless satellite phone to India in the future. Contrary to the comments here, I’m afraid I agree with the Indian authorities. The law is the law, wherever you are you must follow the law. Ignorance of the law is no excuse, this is what’s practiced in the West. If the situation was reversed, if it was an Indian or another foreigner in the UK, do you think they’d let them go so easily if that law was in the UK, or if some other was law broken in the UK? I think she was expecting to be let off because she’s from the West traveling in some third world former colonial country. No one calls their Embassy on such matters. You resort to the embassy for far more serious issues, for instance espionage, murder, or if you’re some govt official etc. This is why the British Embassy said they couldn’t help her because they knew it wasn’t their jurisdiction. But she thought she would threaten the Indian authorities by calling the embassy. Such devices are often used by criminals and terrorists as they’re harder to trace due to signals not coming from cellphone towers but satellites. Well done the Indian authorities.

      @SherSingh-mk9th วันที่ผ่านมา

      @ Use your head, eyes and read what I wrote. I already said the law is the law and must be followed by all. So if any Indians break laws elsewhere they should be punished, and besides as I already said, even if India or Indians complained, do you think the authorities of those countries would let them go? Looks like you’re some Leftist Congress party supporter who all tend to be hypocrites. One law for yourselves and another for others.

  • @karanjain5663
    @karanjain5663 2 วันที่ผ่านมา +6

    This is not a bizarre rule. Indian security agencies are wary of contacts with China and Pakistan and prefer communications take place via monitored channels. Satellite phones are very difficult to monitor. During the 26/11 attacks for example, satellite phones were used by the terrorists and their handlers to carry out the attack. I do feel bad for Heather but the media should try to understand the security context in which these rules are formulated instead of labeling them as 'bizarre'.

    Law is a Law and should be respected, and yes anyone traveling internationally should always check every time cause laws do change too.
    Said that, lot of countries have old 18th or 19th centuries laws still which are quite ridiculing today’s times but made sense then for example in some cities in USA they have a law after 8 pm one can not take their animals inside the park that law is still there and yet not been replaced.
    I believe in today’s modern times a simple satellite phone law should be looked into by Indian lawmakers and see what changes they can make. Also
    I don’t know if one can rent or get Walkie Talkie in India for mountainous region.

I didn’t know this was a rule, but I traveled everywhere with that scissor. Nobody ever stopped me only in Singapore. They don’t allow so it is country’s law can’t change.

      Why does she need that phone? Because she does a lot of camping off grid on her own and India is known for how it treats women. Maybe she was scared she would not get phone coverage if she was to be graped in a forest and in the middle of the night.
      And good security pickup? She literally handed the thing to them. If they hadn't picked it up then they would have to be blind. 😂😂

    At first I felt sorry for this lady. However, by going massive on media she lost my support. I can understand why the Indian police were so thorough with what appears 'little thing' at first sight. Satellite phones too are used by T3rr0rists from across the border. Aside from all this, she had just one unit on her? If she is with a group then the rest would have also carried one on each or she would have a full set on her. I would have expected at least 1 or 2 from the rest to have been caught at this or other airports in India. But nothing. She is lucky this was in India. Had this occured in one of the Middle Eastern countries, she would be behind bars for a long time.

      By the way, satellite phones are not a big deal in most countries and are very common.
