@ponpon I know there are tonnes of Chinese memes out there but I don't understand them. Sometimes I get the impression there are more chinese memes than English. I feel Japan doesn't make as much image memes but they have a lot of video memes because of their niconico culture.
@@AsterPringlei Japan in general has are more appreciative of art(including photo, if you want to talk about meme edits) ownership so the same copy pasta text overlay meme images so prevalent in the west just does not happen naturally there. What they do have are general concepts of a meme existing and people recreate their own/draw their own image of that. There are tonnes on JP Twitter, Nico Nico Seiga, Pixiv, etc. There's also ASCII memes, but those never really work properly outside 2ch, for obvious font and text box size reasons.
