@@clockypancake1017 The problem is, she took too long to help him, and even though she had stuff on her plate it seemed very out of character for her to not rush to help him even she couldn't do anything about the amber. She could have at least tried to be a shoulder to cry on, and been an emotional support to Varian in his time of need. She did try to help (after Varian had to contact her AGAIN) but I think once she got done moping and feeling sorry for herself it was too little to late.
@@clockypancake1017 her exact words were "don't go TOO hard on him Dad."(when Varian gets arrested) It's funny I always thought she pleaded with her father more to go easy on Varian and too grant him mercy because she felt sorry for him and how his mind fell apart, but when I went back to watch Secret of the Sun drop her mercy was...I don't know...condescending? Like she wasn't saying it from a place of genuine mercy or compassion for someone she once considered a friend, but because she wanted to be the bigger person, not for his well being, but for her own benefit. I go back and forth between thinking: of course Rapunzel is going to be like "whatever, screw him" based off of how he attacked her...and feeling like her whole approach to Varian (even before he menaced her and her loved ones) lacked the concern, empathy and compassion her character normally displays with everyone else. Rapunzel helped Varian in season one only after she couldn't ignore his situation any more, and when they had their falling out she dismissed him from her mind. She did give up on him. Unlike Cassandra who she never gave up on. I know Cassandra means more to Rapunzel, she considers Cassandra her sister, but the discrepancy of how she treats two people she called "friend" who do nearly the same crimes against her is kind of sad. She pulls out all the stops to "save" Cassandra from her self, even as Cassandra threatens her kingdom, attacked her with intent to kill more than once and tried squeezing Eugene to death right in front of her to incite her to engage in battle, and still gave her the benefit of the doubt Cassandra could be reasoned with and "saved" instead of arrested and imprisoned as her act of mercy toward a friend who made it clear, didn't want to be saved and was done with Rapunzel as "friends". While her mercy toward Varian equates to: "I don't care if you punish him, in fact, please do so. Just don't kill him okey dokey Dad? Alright! lets get this road trip started! WOOT! Ooh, look how my feet make the black rocks glow!" She didn't even suggest he get help, her father is the one who actually brought that up. (And it's debatable that the King did get Varian help...this is the guy who supposedly put the royal tailor in the stocks for accidently tearing one of his robes. How is he going to treat the dude who kidnapped his wife and almost killed his daughter he just got back after 18 year, now that he had him at his mercy?) I'm sorry, I didn't mean to get in a debate with you, and I know it sounds like I don't like Rapunzel, which is untrue, Tangled the Series has made Rapunzel my favorite Disney princess when I initially felt neutral toward her as a character in the movie. And because I like her, I try to give her grace when I can because I feel the fan base can be a little unfair to her, when I think she has a lot of good qualities. And who knows, maybe **I** am not being as fair to her as I could be in here, but...I am calling the situation with Varian how I see it, and truth is, I do not like how Rapunzel was written in season one, **only** in regards to how she handled Varian.
