Just looking at those daggers and swords of that era, is enough to realize, we live in the damn wrong era... That kind of craftsmanship and beauty, will never be produced again.
Tom I believe the Police bullion banner is actually for a Police Shellenbaum (Jingling Johnny), which would make it to be a very rare item indeed. Also, having your marvelous assistant John present to join you and Rob certainly helps your team.
That panoramic photo was taken with the camera shutter open for an extended time and the camera body is rotated by gears (or manually) on a tri-pod to get the sweep of the shot.
My father has a similar type photo of his tank group at Ft. Knox which has the same soldier at each end. The photo was started and the man ran to the other end quicker than the camera got there. You can tell the men are trying hard not to smile or laugh at this stunt.

Lol I remember when I started collecting I was all over the place, I just wanted a little bit of everything. After a couple years of buying random items I zoned in more on Medals and Badges. Specifically Panzer Assault Badges and other Panzer related items.
It surprised me you didn't mention books for collectors to be, you have books that show things in general in a certain category, these are often not that expensive and while going through them you can specialize in a specific subject and do a real deep dive. Once you have a general idea what one fancies to collect and because you read a bit about it you can use that knowledge to find items you want to collect and help you not buying reproduction or altered items. Books are great reference material and you can bring it with you if you go to check something to buy. Going to shows and museums is also a great way to see what is out there and can help you picking up information about them and see how they are supposed to look like since museums often pick the best of the best in mintness and completeness.

What does Landrat mean? That equipment ID badge has that on it and I have a very nice funeral sash with that as one of the words. I haven't been able to find out anything about it.

Either to give wounded game final stab, or in case of ,Parforce Hunt' ' to kill an annimal pinned by a Pack of dogs. Up to 1860s, may be longer the Deutsche Dogge ( in your country wrongly called Great Dane) was called ,Saupacker' ( Sowbiter).
Most collectors start off collecting small inexpensive items like tinnies or belt buckles. I think one thing a new collector must have is a genuine love for WW2 history. More specifically German history going back to before WW1 because that period explains a lot of why Germany went the way it did into the 1920s and 30s.
When talking about the Luftwaffe dagger... I would say that the soldier was "pretty cool". Why do you have to be so condescending? The original owner earned the right to possess that dagger and more than likely gave his life for what he believed in. Enemy or not they were true soldiers
