Following another hike in prices of petrol pump price, the Nigeria Labour Congress has accused the federal government and the NNPCL for betraying the trust of the Labour movement at the minimum wage negotiating table, lamenting that even the CNG Buses released are annoyingly small and lacks facilities to operate them.
The NLC President Joe Ajaero, who was speaking at the presentation a book; " The Tripartite" in Abuja also accused the Senate president, Godswill Akpabio and the National Assembly for concealing details on agreements reached on number of employees of an organisation to be paid the National minimum wage

Nigerians trusted you. Gave NLC the go ahead to go on strike. We were all ready to face it. The August 1 end bad governance was loading and Government was panicking. Traditional rulers were running up and down. NLC would have stood firm but what happened? NLC and TUC went to see Akume and came out chanting "on your mandate we shall stand"
That was what killed the momentum of the end bad governance protest. Make NLC go rest. If we perish we perish

I am much disappointed in the man that much is expected from, check past labour leaders before the APC Government, and take a clue on how they respond to arbitrary increase in pump price.

Mr. NLC President the Labor union is not all about fuel price increase alone. In your demand from the government you made other demands such CNG buses some of which were delivered to you recently. The purpose of this demand was to ease the dependence on petrol driven vehicles. You asked for CNG Conversion centers to beset up and the government is acting on that. Please note that the minimum wage of any country is not never based on fuel prices in the country. If the organized labor do not know this, they should know it now. It does not matter how many refineries operate in the country, the price of fuel will never be based on the minimum wage but on market forces and demand and supply. Mr. NLC president must remember at all times that there are people in the country that do not belong to the union or earn any salary anywhere, therefore it is selfish to continue to complain about the minimum wage. The governor in one of the states in the country set the minimum wage in his state to be 72500 NGN without any intervention by union. This kind of assessment is what should be done across the nation by the governors on their own. Yesterday, it was announced that NNPCL has terminated the exclusive distribution of Dangote refinery PMS, this means NNPCL is now also a competitor on the sale of petrol in the country with the independent marketers. The Independent marketers are in the business to make money and neither the FG or union can influence their pricing system. I suggest that Mr. NLC president take a tour of the oil producing nation where he can learn that the price of petrol has nothing to do with the minimum wage. Each off taker which is what NNPCL and now the independent marketers are qualified to be by virtue of the deregulation act have the responsibility to determine the pump prices at the station and not the union. The Federal Government did not betray the labor movement because in the first place they cannot set the fuel prices across the country. People recall that the NLC president admitted that the president offer to accept the demand of 250000NGN minimum wage if only he can sell the fuel at a higher price whenever necessary and the union turned down the offer. There are a lot more things the union ought to be doing to assist the government with the current situation in the country and one it to get together with all the state governors in the federation and the FCT Minister to determine the cost of living in each state and with that information they can demand for adjustment in the minimum wage as one of the governors has just announced. It is a shame and embarrassing for the union to be holding press conferences crying about fuel price increase as if Nigeria is the only country in the world faced with inflation.
