    Have you tried Orange Sherbet mangos yet? If so, what did you think of the taste?

    • @miniwangja
      @miniwangja 6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      It tasted like orange push pop sorbet. Flesh was similar to lemon merengue but with artificial orange flavor. 9.8/10

      It's funny, you say it has an artificial orange flavor--someone else on a forum said that Fruit Punch has a saccharine or artificial sweetener flavor--I wonder why these new mangoes make people think they taste like they have artificial ingredients.

    Just had OS for the first time. It's very good. It's juicier than PPK and has an Orange/Mango JUICE flavor profile. PPK has a tart lemon to sweet orange cream profile depending on ripeness. Both are very good, but for flavor, tree, disease resistance, even ripening, early season & fruit quality got to give PPK the edge.
    I actually wanted to like OS more.
    For people where space is limited I think the flavor profile is close enough where you probably wouldn't need both.
    Final Scores: PPK 8.5...OS 8.0 (I don't do "10's) 😋😋😋

    • @SulcataGrove
      @SulcataGrove  6 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      We really like them both. The OS fruits are larger and to us have more of an Orange Creamsicle flavor. We are happy to have both in the ground.

    • @SulcataGrove
      @SulcataGrove  ปีที่แล้ว

      I prefer a couple of Indian mango varieties because of their complexity. Orange sherbet doesn’t have the complexity, but is still excellent.

    • @SulcataGrove
      @SulcataGrove  ปีที่แล้ว

      I am slightly allergic to mangos and very allergic to the sap. I prefer Craig taste them first, incase it isn't very good. There are many mangos we taste which are just bad due to variety, being picked incorrectly, or being over or under ripe.

      I'm in Homestead Florida. There is a video with Dr Richard Campbell that's like a couple years old by now where he mentions orange sherbet as well. I didn't get mine from a well known nursery but it's a graft .. Who knows with these things.. I trust zill and pine island above all so I'll likely just get one from zill.

    Fruitscapes - 3 Gallon OS trees $40....also had a nice selection of other newer Zill varieties....M4, Triple Sec (Formerly Seacrest), etc. Also Steve and the guys at Fruitscapes said to say hi.
    Biggest surprise purchase was the Lancetilla I bought there. Big old sucker. Took a long time to ripen on the counter, but once it did it was very good. Like a Kent but better. With good September mangoes hard to come by Lancetilla should be on the short list for very late varieties. I can see why PIN gives it a high score. I think Lancetilla gets a bad rap because people underestimate how long it takes to ripen. Unless fully ripe it's flavorless.
    Also picked up a couple of Juliette. They had what I presume to be a bit of Julie flavor, but I was under whelmed.
    Alex has a secret private reserve stash of a few M4 (nick named "Mounds") if you ask, but you didn't hear that from me. Some say M4 makes Coconut Cream look like a Tommy Adkins. Have some M4's that should be on my doorstep soon.
