Surely the greatest Classic win ever? On the Koppenberg "King Kelly" (no, don't laugh!) can't keep moving despite having a clear run yet Eric keeps riding despite being mixed up in the melee of runners. Then when Eric attacks Kelly is just looking around waiting for someone to take him up.
Three Panasonic riders in the group, what was Kelly to do? Panasonic were dominant. Kelly had no team mates in any of the classics finales. Vanderaerden was a beast though, no doubt.
@@dancar1660 And, as always, bitching at the end claiming as he always would that he did all the work and everyone else was sandbagging. He was a definite talent but an endless whiner............. Personally, I hold low respect for the man.
It seems like we never see this type of "normal" Tour of Flanders weather anymore...the last few years have always seemed warmer and drier than in the past...when was the last time there was even a muddy Roubaix...Meuseew's last year: 2001?
2002! Last rainy Paris Roubaix. Due to global warming? The rainy éditions were never as frequent as imagined, we had 1983, 1984, 1985, maybe one or two in the 90s. Ronde'85 was probably the toughest race ever in the spring classics of 'le Nord'. Have a look to on YT on Liège Bastogne Liège 1980!
wow these shots are better than what we get in 2023!

Yep, a Kelly classic, always looking for someone else to do the hard work.
@@dancar1660 Aye Pernod Super Prestige winner and World Number 1. Always looking for a push over the line. Kelly was marked out of classic wins.

Back then it was the responsibility of the riders to give a slap to the spectators who got a little bit too much involved.

173 partants 24 a l'arrivée un ronde d'anthologie !
BELGIAN NIGHTMARE
Ah oui cela s'appelait encore BRT à cette époque.... la haine était encore dissimulée de manière intéressée......
