Fun trivia note: About a year before Toy Story 1 was released, the 4 guys in charge of Pixar got together for lunch and brainstormed ideas for other films they could make if Toy Story was a success. During that lunch, they came up with the ideas for "Toy Story 2", "A Bug's Life", "Monster's Inc.", "Finding Nemo" and "Wall-E". Also, the "Kitty!!" at the very end ALWAYS kills me.
They did not come up with Toy Story 2. Disney asked for a sequel when the first film was successful. They wanted to send it to DVD, but then it was so good it got a cinema release and this caused issues because Pixar only had a 5 film contract, and Disney didn't want to count TS2. The dispute made Disney found Circle 7 to make Pixar sequels, they started on a Toy Story 3 without Pixar. Eventually they bought Pixar.

I work for the Post Office. I've delivered to houses with children out front and were happy to see me. I had this one house where a young lady would meet me at the window. She hadn't learned to talk yet so she waved at me. Eventually she started to make sounds but nothing understandable like most of what Boo said. These are some of my favorite memories. I eventually became "Mail Mail". I delivered to her house until she was a High School Junior.
Fun little note Roz the receptionist is based on a real woman, The writer Bob peterson worked at the Purdue Exponent while in school, and the receptionest there was the inspiration for Roz. I worked there 20 years after him, and she was a legend.
The freaking simulation scene where Boo is scared of Sully is one of the most heartbreaking scenes I've ever seen. That is like insta tears from me and I've seen this movie like 100 times.
The restaurant that Mike and his girlfriend went to is named after the famous stop-motion animator/special effects master Ray Harryhausen. Such memorable examples of Harryhausen's monstrous work (pun intended) include films like The 7th Voyage of Sinbad (1958) AND Jason and the Argonauts (1963)
Back in 2002 when I graduated from art college where I’d been studying film design, Ray Harryhausen received an honorary doctorate at the same ceremony. Not only was being on the same stage as him incredible, but following the ceremony I had the opportunity to meet Ray & got to tell him how much his work had inspired me.
My absolute FAVORITE Pixar movie. The part where she says boo to an empty closet just guts me everytime. And then that last "Kitty!" just puts my heart back together ❤
I always liked the detail that Boo is still scared when Sully shows her the empty closet, because of course it wouldn't prove anything to her since her monster was Randal.
George's comment about always associating Tom Hanks with dramatic roles kicked me in my Gen X shins. For us, it was a shock to see a guy known for likable, lightweight comedy roles transition to hard-hitting drama. He did do some drama early on (e.g. "Every Time We Say Goodbye") but nothing nothing like "Philadelphia". That film was such a revelation.
PIXAR always puts a cute little movie before the main feature. This movie's short film was BIRD ON A WIRE. It was easily the funniest goddamn thing I've ever seen.
The thing that makes me laugh is the shorts are often little render tests of a development needed in the big film. Even PIXAR's tests are entertaining!
If I Recall, the Jessie doll was a tease for Toy Story 2 and the Clown fish for Finding Nemo. In the past, Pixar's films would have a hint for what the next film would be.
It's kind of practical at the same time - I imagine that once you have a 3D object (like the ball from the Luxo Jr animation that started the company) it's easier to just import that, than to create something new for a movie
I feel like Pixar movies age really well. When this came out, "Kitty" hit me in the feels. Now, with a 3-year-old girl of my own, it REALLY hits. TS3 always hit at the end, but with an 11-year-old boy, that ending hits differently too.
Fun fact the little girl who provided the voice for Boo wouldn’t sit still in the booth because she was too young and hyper, so they let her play around the studio and followed her around the studio with recording equipment. So they literally let her take the lead, and this was the result. Brilliant
Yeah, I did. I commented during the beginning of the video but I don’t remember if they mentioned anything about the kid who played boo they could very well have brought it up I just don’t remember
The trash compactor scene is a reference to a Warner Brothers Looney Tunes short of a bulldog and kitten, where the kitten gets into some flour and is "baked" by mom into a "cookie". I particularly love that scene.
Simone dropping some "The Lonely Island" in her opening today. Mike on DVD box covers and other places had his face covered as a continuous running gag. The DVD cases had stickers that were directly over him, you can look it up lol
This is one of my favorite movies, and I really think Mike & Sulley might be the best duo out of several great Pixar duos (Buzz & Woody, Marlin & Dory, etc). I’ve already seen plenty of comments about the “kitty!” at the end, but honestly that entire scene where Mike reveals he rebuilt the door from scratch is 10/10 in the feels.

In the German Version the yeti has a thick Swabian Accent which is in Germany an accent that is hard to understand for people that never heard it first. But it makes for some histerical laughs because it has a singsong quality to it...
and don't forget that in the German Version, Randall ends up in a Dutch trailer, something German audiences could relate to much better than an American trailer park - they had the boy and his mother speak German with a Dutch accent. Still think this was a brilliant idea!
Gotta check out the Pixar theory. Long story short, Boo grows up trying to find the monster world and learns magic n all that. Ties into all the other Pixar movies.
Finally, another intro phrase where I actually know where it's from! Yeah, I think I only saw this movie back in the day because I was a big fan of Billy Crystal and John Goodman but I loved all of it. I absolutely fell in love with Boo. I mean, how can you not?? This movie made me so happy (and so sad). It was so nice just seeing it again here, even all cut up like that door.
I think a main theme in this film is the destructiveness of fossil fuels (and the evil/greedy people who profit from them. Not only does oil harm the planet in so many ways, it is also used to make plastic, and it's a natural insulator of the planet in the ground) VS the "energy production" of positivity and more moral energy sources. The effect it has on children/people being positive or negative, and that laughter and good is stronger than screams/evil/oil/greed. Yup.
The restaurant ‘Harryhausen’s’ is an homage to the late great Ray Harryhausen, who was responsible for the stop motion animation in films such as The 7th Voyage of Sinbad, Jason & The Argonauts, Clash of The Titans & many many more. Boo was voiced by Mary Morgan Gibbs. She’s the daughter of Pixar animator and director Rob Gibbs (1964-2020). Having been a toddler at the time she was recorded as the voice of Boo in Monsters, Inc., audio crew found it difficult to record her lines because she would run all over the Pixar office. When Pixar's Inside Out was in production, the audio recordings of Gibbs's screams as Boo were reused for baby Riley. One of the production babies listed in the film credits of Toy Story 2 as Mary. Rob Gibbs, her father, was the story artist for that film.
Awwww, it's one of my absolute favorite movies. I sometimes forget about it but whenever I see it again, I remember how much I love this. Just the IDEA behind the movie is so amazing. The monsters scaring children because they need the power and the whole second universe .... just absolute perfection, theme-wise.
The deal with Sully's fur. Each hair is animated individually, so rendering the CGI of scenes where he's moving fast took days to compile a few seconds of screentime. Before this fur was treated as a single mass that moved together.
The thing about kids being toxic, there's a fan theory that the door system is actually time-travel and they believe children are toxic because of the Black Plague. Monsters are actually evolved humans, according to the theory, which ties into an even bigger theory called the Pixar theory, where all the Pixar movies are connected in a shared universe.
O my you mean actors play different genres of films it’s almost like they get paid to act like different people in different types of stories…… blew my mind 😂😂
great movie, you'll find Pixar puts their other movies into another, like the Pixar Ball, Jessie from Toy Story and so on. you'll see it in all the Pixar movies
What I loved most about this movie, is that it's a Disney / Pixar movie that focused on a daddy / daughter dynamic, which doesn't happen very often. She's scared at first, but he wins her over. Then later she sees what he's like when she's not around, and then comes around to see that people can be different ways to different people. Most of Disney's works haven't really focused on dads and daughters, and it'd be nice if they did more often. Usually, it's the wandering smart daughter and the clueless or over-protective father (Little Mermaid / Beauty and the Beast, etc..)
I knocked on one of my neigbour's doors some while back, to let her know she'd left her keys in the lock. While we were chatting her 2 year-old daughter came out to see what was going on, so I waved and said "Hello lil' monster." She looked at me for a moment, took her dummy out of her mouth, raised her arms and said "RAAAAR!"
Was NOT expecting Lonely Island bars to start this episode. If George isn't familiar with those songs, that's a whole different channel you could start
Long ago ppl were comparing roz to 🍊 but waternoose is far more like him. He would kidnap thousands of kids from their parents before he would let his name not be dragged. Company and profit over the ppl he claims to support
Disney's Magic Kingdom has an attraction based on this called The Laugh Floor. The premise is that you're entering a comedy club in the monster world to generate laughter to be captured. The show is essentially a digital puppet show where comedians play the role of monsters to tell jokes and interact with the audience. It's a rather simple premise but something I never miss doing.
I think Simones intro was The Lonely Island - Jizz in my pants Last week I saw a film As I recall it was a horror film Walked outside into the rain Checked my phone and saw you rang and I Jizzed in my pants
Yessss!!! I’m glad you two got the chance to see this movie! This is a childhood favorite of mine, and it’s one of those touching Pixar films that gets me every time :)
If you ever visit the Magic Kingdom at Walt Disney World in Florida, there is a Monster's Inc themed attraction named "Monster's Inc Laugh Floor." It is an animated interactive comedy club where different monsters do stand up routines and interact with audience members.
The part of the movie where he thought that Boo got crushed was a homage to the old Looney Tunes cartoon "Anthony and Cleopatra" where the dog thinks that his new best friend a kitten had gotten baked into cookies.
Love your guys reaction, and so glad that you reacted to probably one of my fav childhood classics😊😊. It is always fun to watch this movie, and just love boo🥹🥹 I would also love ice age reactions if you guys haven't watched it.
That yellow ball with the blue stripe and the red star is not "from" Toy Story. It is from an early Pixar short called Luxo Jr. Pixar was originally a unit of Apple and its function was to demonstrate the capabilities of Apple's Rendorman computer. There were several pre-Toy Story shorts and they are all worth your time. Specifically, Luxo Jr. Is a story about a parent and child desk lamps playing catch with a ball.
Monster's Inc. was one of my first movies, and I've revisited it many times as I got older. Now as an adult, it's been some time since I've seen it, and this literally made my day. Glad you guys liked it.
Tiny Fun Fact: The scene where they're first walking to work.. Pixar in it's beginnings used to be in my town of Point Richmond, CA they put in some of the restaurants and businesses .... there's a scene where they pass by "The Hidden City Cafe" a real cafe where the creators at Pixar sat to have lunch one day and came up w/ the ideas for "Monster's Inc", " A Bugs Life" "Finding Nemo" & "WALL- E"
I have never seen a character more masterfully designed than Mr. Waternoose. Especially during the final chase, they really show off his imposing design with the way he heightens himself and runs quickly up the sides of walls while chansing Sulley.
You know what makes me sad? By the time the year is 2319 no one will remember this movie to make the joke... Ps: some interesting stuff I noticed after a while: Boo's first name is Mary, you can see it one one of the drawings (during this scene but they cut it @12:00). In the prequel "Monsters University" Randall used to wear glasses so that's (maybe) why he's always squinting

The effect it has on children/people being positive or negative, and that laughter and good is stronger than screams/evil/oil/greed.
Yup.
I wondered if George would get the "Harry Hausen's" joke........
Best Pixar movie ever.
This movie is the reason I decided I want a kid, specifically a daughter.
It's also the reason I know the color puce.
If this intro reminds you of "Catch Me If You Can", watch "Honey, I Shrunk The Kids"!
"What's a Tarantino roll?"
"Feet"
I think I just lost all taste for sushi
The restaurant ‘Harryhausen’s’ is an homage to the late great Ray Harryhausen, who was responsible for the stop motion animation in films such as The 7th Voyage of Sinbad, Jason & The Argonauts, Clash of The Titans & many many more.
Monsters Inc is Pixar's best film in my opinion.
Please watch Monsters University! It's great.
TELL ME IF YOU SEE A CONNECTION BETWEEN THIS MOVIE AND TWILIGHT , NO , IT'S NOT A JOKE QUESTION , IT'S A PHILOSOPHICAL AND MORAL ONE !
Please react to "Pixar Theory", once you guys finish watching all the pixar movies!
Given the monsters do shifts, and they choose doors from each time zone at a time, I think time runs at the same speed in both worlds.
The deal with Sully's fur. Each hair is animated individually, so rendering the CGI of scenes where he's moving fast took days to compile a few seconds of screentime. Before this fur was treated as a single mass that moved together.
That Futurama shirt brings back memories, I recently started going through the series again
Did you reference the creep? 😂😂 Love lonely island reference!
great movie, you'll find Pixar puts their other movies into another, like the Pixar Ball, Jessie from Toy Story and so on. you'll see it in all the Pixar movies
Put That Thing Back Where it Came From or So Help Me is an absolute banger!
Really need to know where George gets his Simpsons/Futurama shirts from. lol
Last week, I sawr a film
As I recall, it was a horror film
Walked outside into the rain
Checked my phone and saw you rang and I
Disney's Magic Kingdom has an attraction based on this called The Laugh Floor. The premise is that you're entering a comedy club in the monster world to generate laughter to be captured. The show is essentially a digital puppet show where comedians play the role of monsters to tell jokes and interact with the audience. It's a rather simple premise but something I never miss doing.
I think Simones intro was The Lonely Island - Jizz in my pants
Last week I saw a film
As I recall it was a horror film
Walked outside into the rain
Checked my phone and saw you rang and I
Jizzed in my pants
A Tarantino roll is definitely a FOOTlong
What about the bloopers they are so fun to watch
13:12
That "odorant low tide, wet dog" line has made its way as an easter egg into World of Warcraft undead /silly line
Yessss!!! I’m glad you two got the chance to see this movie! This is a childhood favorite of mine, and it’s one of those touching Pixar films that gets me every time :)
A Tarantino roll would be like a foot long crepe roll.
This is the emotion Disney/Pixar lost
Harryhausen's Restaurant is named after Ray Harryhausen one of the legends of stop motion animation and a great monster creator.
Hands down the best film Pixar ever made.
If you ever visit the Magic Kingdom at Walt Disney World in Florida, there is a Monster's Inc themed attraction named "Monster's Inc Laugh Floor." It is an animated interactive comedy club where different monsters do stand up routines and interact with audience members.
You guys would love Tin Tin! And the opening titles will remind George of Catch Me if You Can 😅
That Lonely Island refernce was an insane throwback
The part of the movie where he thought that Boo got crushed was a homage to the old Looney Tunes cartoon "Anthony and Cleopatra" where the dog thinks that his new best friend a kitten had gotten baked into cookies.
Omg! I love that one!
Simone quoting Jz in my pants at the start LOL
I finally understand one of Simone’s opening bits!
I vote we introduce George to more Disney classics like Beauty and the Beast (1991)
Love your guys reaction, and so glad that you reacted to probably one of my fav childhood classics😊😊. It is always fun to watch this movie, and just love boo🥹🥹
I would also love ice age reactions if you guys haven't watched it.
Toy Story was... okay. Monsters Inc. is a masterpiece.
He was referring to the Jessie doll.
I love watching Monsters Inc. This movie made me both laugh and cry. Mary Gibbs as Boo was incredible. She's so cute, sweet and so clever
😭😭😭😍😍😍🤣🤣🤣
I wish they'd still make movies like that. One of the best animated films of all time imo
Monster's Inc. was one of my first movies, and I've revisited it many times as I got older. Now as an adult, it's been some time since I've seen it, and this literally made my day. Glad you guys liked it.
best fan theory is Boo becomes the old witch from Brave. She has the power of the doors and is still searching for Sully
My little sister dresses as Boo for Halloween and everyone knows the character she's playing. She looks and speaks just like that.
Omg learning that this movie made lotr battles possible blew my mind!
Doesn't matter how many times I see this movie, it will always make me cry. Not a sniffle or a quite sob, but a complete and utter ugly cry.
