You are so correct Paul. I loved how I had to wait six months for a 2013/14 S-Works Roubaix due to SRAM hydraulic brake issue. This is a continuing issue. This needs to end.
I would say the main issue is so many of these bike companies are struggling to stay afloat that they simply lack the liquidity to go ahead and order product, then warehouse it before launch, ready to ship to dealers. Most brands probably need the pre-orders to use that money to pay suppliers and stay above water. I doubt many Western brands can easily order $30 million in product on credit anymore, given how many still have large sums of debt.

Depends on your distributor 😂. My local Orbea distro would tell you it’ll take half a year earliest, then throw a tantrum when you import it in yourself with the week.
Finally someone who understands. Top end flagship bikes are hard to get right away. Pinarello is famous for half a year lead time . Ask me how I know 😅
With a bike like the Colnago, it would be acceptable to wait till mid march if it meant that you would get a truly customized bar stem where you gave your fit information and they made handlebars for you that put the shifters at your exact position while preserving the slammed stem look, and it would have your ideal bar width/bar flare/having a short or long drop extension. This should be normalized for all high end bikes and it's shameful that the metrics of customization in the industry is so limited.
Similar story to some of the others. In April 2021 ( yes, I know it was Covid so that had something to do with it. ) I ordered a Trek Emonda SL6 with Rival AXS, beautiful crimson color. Delivery date was moved out at least three times. Fortunately LBS never asked for a deposit. Almost a year and half later I called Trek directly to inquire about the bike and they said we're not making that color any more ??? I call my LBS to ask and they said yes. we just got that info. as well. To their credit they said you've waited long enough and we can get you the SLR ( the next level of carbon ) and get you a Project One and give you a discount and we can have it here in a week and a half. Needless to say they treated me very well but wasn't too pleased with Trek.
I think all manufacturers and distributors just learned from their pandemic mistakes of increasing production and carrying inventory bloat. They would rather work with pre-orders rather than excess inventory that they will eventually have to discount.
I feel like this is such common knowledge that I personally just assume that bikes aren’t available for 4-6 months. The real annoying thing is that once they’re available, stock gets sold out super fast, and the common person cant be expected to know these actual, real dates when bikes are up for purchase.

Nothing has been right since before Covid. Stock-lines are just hit and miss. Having a good bike shop that understands the client and is able to guide in the process is critical. It happens all the time where I am from. But that’s the problem. The rich who have that money. Want stuff now. They will take that money and put it into a new hobby or something
You're absolutely right; the bike industry has been like this for years. Happened to the the two last times I ordered a bike (several months of delays). Makes me think that the bike industry is an unprofessional industry.
I totally agree with you here. This reflects exactly how and why the bike industry is failing here from where I live. LBS complaining about not having business, or brand distributors complains about loosing loyal customers. Yet the problem is when there are customer who are ready to purchase, they do not have them in stock. When nobody wants to buy and wait months for it, the same LBS will whine about consumers not having enough spending power. This is pathetic. That is why I only choose to ride brands like giant instead because I do not have to worry about having to wait almost a year for a warranty frame.
To be fair, the auto industry does the same thing... Product launch and then first deliveries are several months out with a dealer pre-order. The difference is most people are buying a car to keep for several years, likely as their primary transportation... Bicycle buyers are making sporadic impulse buys for something they'll sell off in a couple years and don't really need, so not having a product is ruining that spur of the moment purchase for dealers.
This is an ongoing issue with all industries. But what it's doing is killing sales. People aren't going to buy a dream when they they can have something now.
I’ve pretty much become used to this waiting game with the bike market. And for me I don’t mind waiting because that way I don’t have to drop a significant amount all at once. I can pay in increments until it comes in. I’m currently waiting on two bikes, and one of them I’ve been waiting since August. So for me I’m a patient customer, but I definitely understand from the other perspective of customers who want everything right away.
Do you think the forced order process might be intentional? To understand the demand and to find out the specific sizes that are ordered? That would constitute the three to five month delay. And keep all the risk out of it for the bicycle brand.
I assume bike shops would suffer from low volumes, especially with high end bikes. An Apple store could easily order large volumes of the various iPhone models and be confident of selling at least the majority of them. A bike shop might order a couple of bikes of a certain model for each of the common sizes. Plus a bike is bigger and much more awkward to ship. About this time last year I reserved and paid a deposit on a Specialized Roubaix Comp in size 56. The bike shop had already ordered the bike from the supplier. It took three months to arrive. My old bike sold within a couple of weeks, so I ended up having to buy a cheap old road bike just so I had something to ride. I live in New Zealand so unless it's air freight things can take a long time to arrive. However it doesn't sound like these wait times are all that unusual in other countries as well.
These are exclusively reserved for the top tier, elite level try hard wankers. They will be wearing a wristwatch that costs as much as the bike when they ride it 16 mph.
I'd love to know exactly how many of these wild high end bikes get destroyed by the company when they don't sell. Somewhere there is a guy sending these frames through a bandsaw and into trash can. Keeping them rare is part of the pricing strategy.
i like the looks of the new colnago. bold but not too eccentric like the madone. however in my opinion the bottle cage and seat clamps might cause some headache.
Colnago is horrible. I’ve had 2 bikes that both had issues. After the second one (V3rs) , they offered me a a new V4rs…6 months later and I’m still waiting and they upped the price! And now ghosted the local bike shop trying to help me. Insane.
Car industry do this all the time… I was into the idea of buying a VW iD Buzz - I saw it IRL in the UK last summer - still can’t get one here in Oregon over 9 months later.
Some companies have gotten used to covid supply chain issue wait times and assume that it is the new normal even 5 years later. There's plenty of other options out there, most of the time they end up being better rational options.
I had good luck with my local shop having a Madone in stock during the first week of its release. However, it did take a couple of months to get my aero bottle and cages.
I've been waiting 10 months for the frame builder to get my bike done. Just this week I had a conversation with him and was told the painter is coming to pick up the frame. So I'm looking at probably another month. It's a good thing I didn't need a bike because I would have found another way to get something to ride. I say don't wait until you need a bike. Plan way ahead and have patience. I the case for that Colnago, it's so friggin ugly I wouldn't have wanted it anyway. I would have settled for a C68 instead.
The Y1RS is the Ferarri F40 of the bike world. The number of units manufactured will likely number in the hundreds. Statistically no one will buy one, and this is why your argument falls down: this bike is not for purchase by mere mortals.
I don’t think you understand south Florida bike market. I have a ton of my sworks customers asking me if they can buy them. I literally have three that would pay right now but don’t want to wait until may
@@GCPerformance18 I bet plenty of millionaires walk into Ferrari dealerships and want a new car that day. They can't have it. The very existence of a $16k bike / $250k car is PREDICATED on scarcity.
If I can't get a bike pretty much straight away, then I won't bother at all. Due to that, a shop lost my money this year because it was at least a 3 month wait, if not longer
what you said at the beginning reminds me the good old days. in 2017, i paid the full amount in advance for a trek project one with customised paint. in about a month, i was called it was ready for pick up. that was great compared to now a days three or four months uncertain wait. do you think it's marketing strategy? something like "hunger marketing"?
I think this is a question of scale. The bikes people are having to wait for are basically boutique items sold in the low thousands worldwide (iPhone in the billions & some probably still have to wait). Once you get to the lower models there's no waiting. In a perfect world there'd be stock allotment in all markets at launch but it's not that kind of product. You order a car from Singer & it takes 4 or 5 years.
I ordered the SW Aethos when it first came out. Waited over a year and still never got the bike. Meanwhile , It was in stock in the Specialized website but I was screwed because I ordered thru a dealer. Never did get the bike.
I would understand if their reasoning was "we don't know how many people will buy this super expensive bike so we haven't made that many." But it seems like it's more that they're announcing these bikes before the factories have even started pumping them out which is stupid. If it'll be March for the first batch, do the press release and stuff in March when you have stock and THEN tell people they'll have to wait until May if you've sold them all. Supply issues due to high demand can be excused when it's something this expensive, but just straight up not having it available for all your markets is silly.
The bike industry is quite similar to the car industry in that way. Cars can take a while from they get launched until they reach the dealerships. Just look at the Tesla Roadster they launched that in November 2017 and still haven´t delivered any to customers that put down a deposit. So the car industry might actually be worse.
Hi @GCPerformance18 between Polygon Strattos and Polygon Helios, what would you recommend for me as a beginner cyclist looking for first road bike, for long rides and possibility of doing some races & beginner triathlons? What size should I be at, for 1.75m tall?
Cannondale all the way! I bought the Yoeleo deal in 50\60 and I'm gonna put this Wheelsets on my SSE gen4 with my 30c GP5000! Cannondale is easy to have bikes and parts and Trek is in my opinion to about easy to ordered a bike and have an easy customer service in Canada
You'd be crazy to put a deposit down unless you're stupidly rich and it's chump change. I would want to see how the pros ride it and if any breaks before dropping that much cash.
Very similar to high end cars. You want a new ZR1 corvette or ferarri? time to wait.... I do a number of custom bikes (custom frames, custom paint) high end clients don't mind waiting if it's worth it.
Totally agree but it seems that for now, essentially the whole industry adheres to the same practice. You'd think that at least one manufacturer would grasp onto this as a competitive advantage.
I think the bike industry in general is moving more toward a made-to-order business model. Bike brands having stock on hand with framesets this expensive is good for the shops and the shop’s customers, but bad for the brand’s business. Would you, as a bike shop owner, tie up $60k of your own capital to stock 5 of these new bikes in your shop in the hope that you quickly sell them? In the hope that they’re the right sizes for your interested customers? Probably not.
Riders win races. The pros change teams and change bikes all the time, and their performances don't vary based on bikes; they're all basically equal. Tires and wheels make more difference than anything.
I got so pissed off w/ the Scott Sports AUS/NZ distributer about the Scott Gravel Tuned who couldnt say if they would be getting any despite my LBS have 4 customers wanting one...I ended up w/ a Wilier. Scott lost me as a customer and i sold my Addict.
Grant You literally outlined the “new” customer service experience. Had a bike shop tell me the exact same thing. Scott should be better prepared to sell addict pro rc. Safa Brian had a build of the new addict and he’ll be releasing a review in January 2025😊
To be fair many other industries suffer these paper launches PC parts for example. The thing with those is there's only one top dog for GPUs for example and the big spenders have to wait like it or not, so really these "launches" happen just to drive up hype and stock prices. High end road bikes actually have a somewhat competitive market in comparison, so they should be careful to not let the marketing department be the ones that dictate the timelines. Honestly with the Y1Rs they could've waited until March, 1 they would've had stock at that point and 2 people are actually riding at that time (or at least starting to). Launching in December is just strange to me. I get some parts of the world Summer is now, but somehow I doubt Colnago are targeting that market specifically.
they are forced to launch publicly though because of team training camps. Well really they have a choice, have the team riding them but no public release/info and then do consumer launch when they have produced enough to sell, or launch early before the bike is publicly ridden but then have a long lead up to being available to purchase.
@@hobmarg Exactly, the way I see it is with the current approach the risk is being buried by other new hype bikes by the time you do have enough stock and people are actually buying things. The other way around has the downside of having to compete for media attention more but this bike specifically would've broken through given it's unorthodox style (also after a potential build up of "leaked" photos from team camps and after Pog wins some Spring classic on it).
For bussiness it's not correct , but for the costumer it's not easy to . The compagnies have to know to respect the costumer but the costumer have to wait sometime to receive is new toy's....😊
My dream Harley Davidson Breakout is $16000. I love road bikes but I wouldn't take 5 Y1RS over the Harley Breakout. You don't even need to ride or like motorcycles to agree with me. Just look it up and tell me TP's bicycle is worth the same😂😂😂
Those 16k bikes are for the whales who don't really care about riding. Apparently there are lots of bikes on store floors ready to ride (if youtube personalities are to be believed)
I got a scott that I have invested near 12k and guess what? That shit is in my shop collecting dust. Barely have been riding since I have a ton of work. Everyday I look at it and get so mad. Money sitting there. Shit is just sad 😔
Tadej will win races on this bike and cyclists who race and buy race bikes know that it’s not because Colnago have a new revolutionized aerodynamic bike. Racers spend money on their physical performance first, travel to races second, nutrition third, what’s left over goes towards the bike. I rely on used bikes and parts to race due to cost.
im also not sure how this kind of bikes fit. i mean i know all my measurements and what position i want but with all this new handlebar stuff, how the fuck should one know what to buy here? i dont want to put my 16k down for the slightest possibility of a wrong frame.
Drake claimed that he fed the info to KDot, so he knew the information even before UMG. UMG just needs to quote Drake's Heart Part 6. 😂 Drake needs to sue himself
Some bicycle shops like yours, when you check on their website, show the availability of some products. When you buy these, they say they have to come from another part of the chain shop because it is not in their shopat the moment This is just unacceptable.
Yeah, this is just plain bad business practise if they are doing this. A lot of the mainstream retailers here let you know that an item is ordered from a manufacturer on request i.e they dont have it in stock but can order it for you if you want it but there will be an extra few days/weeks lead time. Some websites will advertise that they 'X' amount of units in stock and ready to ship but actually dont have any and wont tell you until youve paid, waiting for it to get shipped and get curious about why the status of your order hasnt changed to despatched and go and contact them yourself. I usually dont bother shopping with retailers like these as you cant trust them..
@ I bought a rear roval rapid clx ii from a well known specialized retailer shop the wheel was made clear evident available on their shop to pick up them. the day after they told me I will have to wait cause the wheel wasn’t available actually, and I had to wait 7 working days for the refund if I decided to cancel the order completely unacceptable.
Well that's why you never pay stuff in advance. That must be some kind of US end game capitalism thingy but here in Germany it's not a thing. Deposits are a thing though, and yes some morons say it is not refundable but probably they have never read the law... I rest assured to always get my money back in case of unexpected financial situation or the product gets delayed.
At the end of the day they will sell the first ones that trickle in slowly, but still to me I have no idea why the industry does this with release dates with no products on hand to buy when they aim these at consumers for massive price points
Colnago was sold to an Abu Dhabi-based private investment firm in 2020. I guess they have a very different business model than in the West.
You cant justify a 500% markup on bikes if you just make them available to readily buy 😂
Its unfortunate that January is actually a pretty fast estimate. Even April isn't that bad back in 2022
IMHO they shouldn’t announce a release until the product is in stock at the warehouse and available to dealers. If they want to announce a pre-order thru dealers ahead of release, with the customer’s only expectation being first in line at the time of release, that might be a better way to go. Bike prices are HILARIOUS 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
Bicycle Companies are right on the mark! Get the money first whether the consumer eventually gets the product or not!
This is an ongoing issue with all industries. But what it's doing is killing sales. People aren't going to buy a dream when they they can have something now.
The joy of anticipation is the greatest of all joys!
100% agree. So sick of see reviews and launches of bikes we can’t buy! And as for nonrefundable deposits, what is going on there!
I dont know why anyone would get that Colnago when you can get literally anything else for less money that looks 10x better.
These are exclusively reserved for the top tier, elite level try hard wankers. They will be wearing a wristwatch that costs as much as the bike when they ride it 16 mph.
They are living in the 1980s when bought new cars every 2 years 😅😅😅😅😅😅😅😅😅
Also, good luck getting the correct one piece bar/stem combo that you desire. That's even more time and $$$.
Monday you're new, Friday you're through!
By the time you get the bike, it surpassed by yet another new kid on the block.
Lather, rise and repeat.
For my Dogma XC - I ordered in September 23 and didn't see it until september 24. The lead times are pretty nuts.
Colnago is horrible. I’ve had 2 bikes that both had issues. After the second one (V3rs) , they offered me a a new V4rs…6 months later and I’m still waiting and they upped the price! And now ghosted the local bike shop trying to help me. Insane.
Happens with CANYON too! Ive had friends who waited +than 1 year to receive their Aeroad
Car industry do this all the time…
I was into the idea of buying a VW iD Buzz - I saw it IRL in the UK last summer - still can’t get one here in Oregon over 9 months later.
the volume is completely upside down for bicycles compared to iPhone
@@bjmaston Ferrari has it figured out; they dictate what, if any, model they will or won't sell you. They don't cater to the Lamborghini douchebags.
If you're buying a 16k bike then the wait is irrelevant ,you've got a garage full of other 10k bikes anyway
Is there a weight limit on that setback seatpost and frame?
I would understand if their reasoning was "we don't know how many people will buy this super expensive bike so we haven't made that many." But it seems like it's more that they're announcing these bikes before the factories have even started pumping them out which is stupid. If it'll be March for the first batch, do the press release and stuff in March when you have stock and THEN tell people they'll have to wait until May if you've sold them all. Supply issues due to high demand can be excused when it's something this expensive, but just straight up not having it available for all your markets is silly.
You're right. Apparently the new Chinese Astana bike will be presented tomorrow
Helios all day. They have great value and performance
That is why you should buy Giant and not those fancy brands...
Very similar to high end cars. You want a new ZR1 corvette or ferarri? time to wait.... I do a number of custom bikes (custom frames, custom paint) high end clients don't mind waiting if it's worth it.
Sounds like my No22 Reactor Aero (3d titanium print) that I ordered with an estimated delivery date of 4th quarter 2025 😮
Totally agree but it seems that for now, essentially the whole industry adheres to the same practice.
You'd think that at least one manufacturer would grasp onto this as a competitive advantage.
Same as guitars, they mostly all come out of the same few factories.
I love you mentioned the nero show
I will wait and see if these bike win races …. then I’ll think of purchase it. May be 12 month down the road after it is release ….
I bet now no one laughing about my Cervelo S5 Frame. 😂
The Colnago is one ugly looking bike. Same League as the Bianchi.
Is this me? The ENVE wheels on Colnago aren't 4.5 (more like 3.4). Too shallow. Although it says so. Weird. The ones with white decals are 4.5
Here in brazil this is even worse. I'm tall, 192cm, and it's even worse again. Almost a year to get a bmc teammachine R. Bizarre.
I’m glad that I am poor. I will never have this conundrum
I waited for Cannondale SuperSix 13 months 😂
Grant
You literally outlined the “new” customer service experience.
Had a bike shop tell me the exact same thing.
Scott should be better prepared to sell addict pro rc.
Safa Brian had a build of the new addict and he’ll be releasing a review in January 2025😊
Same with MTBs. Embargo drops, the hype of Yotube is produced and then you can’t get the bike.
These brands and the influencers they pay should just say that the bikes are built to order with an open delivery date. See how many order those then.
It's like buying a new car these days. You can order but it'll only get here when it gets here. Out of the dealer's control.
I got a used civic sitting in my shop. At least I could drive the car everyday lol.
lmfao
The new venge will be out by the time my new y1rs comes in
For bussiness it's not correct , but for the costumer it's not easy to . The compagnies have to know to respect the costumer but the costumer have to wait sometime to receive is new toy's....😊
You need post a weekly YT segment and call it, "Grant's Rant" 😉
Is it just me or are there never any parts in stock for Shimano Di2 drivetrains
My dream Harley Davidson Breakout is $16000. I love road bikes but I wouldn't take 5 Y1RS over the Harley Breakout. You don't even need to ride or like motorcycles to agree with me. Just look it up and tell me TP's bicycle is worth the same😂😂😂
Colnago should have produce say 10,000 units ready for delivery before releasing the new bike ….
I'd be stunned if there are ever 10,000 of these bikes in existence.
Those 16k bikes are for the whales who don't really care about riding. Apparently there are lots of bikes on store floors ready to ride (if youtube personalities are to be believed)
I think Canyon has the best launch & delivery in the industry... Winspace also.
They are pretty much DTC companies, so they need to have this one figured out.
canyon is always out of stock to me
Life is not predictable enough to justify putting that much down and waiting O.o
I got a scott that I have invested near 12k and guess what? That shit is in my shop collecting dust. Barely have been riding since I have a ton of work. Everyday I look at it and get so mad. Money sitting there. Shit is just sad 😔
Not just sitting, it's depreciating. When it's three years old with low miles on it, it'll have resale value of $6k, maybe. Hope you like it.
Tadej would also win races in 2025 on a 2015 bike.
Marketing claims and marginal gains
im also not sure how this kind of bikes fit. i mean i know all my measurements and what position i want but with all this new handlebar stuff, how the fuck should one know what to buy here? i dont want to put my 16k down for the slightest possibility of a wrong frame.
Get a Canyon, you pay it, they ship it.
Sometimes I wonder if this wait is worth it.
If I wasn’t as flexible as a 2x4 I might be interested.
Drake claimed that he fed the info to KDot, so he knew the information even before UMG. UMG just needs to quote Drake's Heart Part 6. 😂 Drake needs to sue himself
This bike isn't any more aero or lighter than a Scott Foil.
