  • In 1995, Mexican film and television Ricardo Montalbán sat with TCM to reflect on his career and discuss his love of film. Handsome, erudite and blessed with an exceptionally rich, sonorous voice, Ricardo Montalbán made the transition from supporting character actor to lead player with a pair of iconic roles, as diverse as they were memorable.

Ricardo Montalban was one of the most debonair actors of all time. Such a wonderful man.

He just has such a presence. Even in an interview like this he literally owns the moment.

One of the quintessential "Latin lovers" of his time; of all time. He was so suave and romantic! He seemed like a sincere, wonderful human being as well. He and is gorgeous wife Georgiana made such a beautiful couple. RIP Mr Montalban and Georgiana. Edit: TCM, you are the only reason I've kept Cable! I've loved you since you first went on the air. I do miss Robert Osborne and thankfully Ben Mankiewicz has developed into a compelling host. We all have Ted Turner to thank for his insight and for saving the catalogues of brilliant, forgotten films. Thank you for saving the MGM, RKO and other catalogues as well as the Bergman films. "Autumn Sonata" was on last night and it's one of my favorites along with "Wild Strawberries". I adore TCM!

This man was incredibly talented in everything he did. From movies to television, even his car commercials were elegant. He was handsome and spoke with such clarity. I never heard him speak of anyone in an unkind way. What a gentleman!

so many actors of his generation were worthy of respect and fame. I loved watching him on tv (i am alittle bit too young to have seen him in a cinema film) but i dont think i ever saw him in a bad film.
There are so many actors around today and very few can hold a light to men like Mr Montalban.
thankyou sir for my childhood of good films and tv.

Classy and classic human being!! Many performers today barely hold a candle to his abilities. Talented yes, but he worked very hard to Master the skills. It's shameful of Hollywood and this country to deny him his credit & well deserved success!

I discovered "Mystery Street" recently on TCM and his character was unlike anything else I had seen him in. He really knocked it out of the park in that movie. It was a great part for him and, judging from this interview, it must have been a real treat for him because, not only was it a departure from the typecasting he described, the role had nothing requiring an accent, dancing or singing!

This man is the only man other than Al Pacino that could have played Hanna in the movie Heat. But, he would have played it much differently and it would have been most correct due to his background. No bombastic behavior, brilliant, and utterly under control.

These types of interviews are excellent. However, what drives me to the mute button is the seemingly constant need you have to be woke, ‘culturally relevant’ and not offend anyone. This constant need to explain and apologize is a bore and only serves to further divide the races. I’m 75 and we’re more divided than at anytime in my life. All lives matter!…

    • @lindseycarribean5113

Hate the ugly new look which now ruins the tcm-hates-international-films slot of 1am Mondays by covering up the subtitles!
Love Ricardo Montalban but why is this channel bigoted against the hearing impaired and those who need captions? Progress into the 21st century, please don't exacerbate the current hate fueled culture by discriminating against those who need captions when the technology exits.
