Hi everyone Some stats for u. Since 2021 JV and TP has rode 8 ITT against each other here are the facts and numbers TP 4 wins JV 4 wins 4 short under 15 km TP 3 wins JV 1 win 4 long plus 15 km JV 3 wins TP 1 win 1st week ITT TP 4 wins JV 1 win 3rd week stage race ITT JV 3 wins TP 0 They are both very strong ITT raiders, some of the best in the world(only specialists better). The stats so far show a clear picture. When they go head to head in ITT, TP will win when they have fresh legs.(JV has only won 1 time against TP and that was in basque 2021 ITT but only with 9 seconds . JV wins in 3rd week ITT. TP has never won a ITT against JV in a 3rd week ITT. JV is the best ITT in the world after 3 weeks racing in my opinion. Which means that to make the tour GC interesting(close) in the future, the ITT in the tour needs to be a 25-30 km ITT in the start of the tour. Then TP might gain 30 sec or maybe a minute on JV/and then bad/cold weather in week 3, then we will get a close Tour de France. Im from Denmark and of course want JV to win but I love TP very much too, but without the above mentioned, I really think that TP will have big troubles winning against JV. And we all really want a close Tour de France no matter who ones favorite is. In 2022 JV would have won with 5 minutes if he had not sat up before the climb in the ITT to give his friend WWA the win and this year a win over 7 minutes. Next year If both are at their best I think Jonas will win clearly. Since we have a long ITT on the last day and TP will probably loose 1-3 minutes on that ITT, and TP has never taken minutes on JV in the mountains. Sidewind or coubble stages are his only chance to take minutes and with JV strong Jumbo team it's unlikely to happen. I really don't think TP will win the tour over Jonas if he does not skip the classic season and this might not be enough anyway. We will see I think he will eventually try this strategy once at least. But damn we live in exiting times. I have followed Tour de France since the mid 1980s and we are so blessed to have such gifted talents right now(JV, TP, Remco, WWA, MVTP and PR) All 6 writes history in their own way that will be remembered in years to come. The discussion the worlds best is in my opinion not that important. but if I have to give u my take on it right now(the last years results.) 1. TP, 2. JV, 3. WWA, 4. Remco, 5. MVTP, 6 PR, 7. Mads P. TP will probably go over in history as the best overall raider after merxc. IF JV keeps evolving and can keep this level for the next 5-6 years Especially if he wins Vuelta this year, then he has a chance to win plus 10 grand tours and become one of histories best GC raiders of all time. With Remco we will see. I don't see him beating JV or TP in the mountain in any near future. Damn im looking forward to the Vuelta. Remember to enjoy this speciel times and keep your self respect by following the example of JV and TP. Have respect for each other and have a bit of class. Let the best legs and tactic intelligence win.
Sep Kuss is a great lieutenant on a great team. I don't know if the timing of his career will allow him to become a GC contender. It would be great to see him win at least one Grand Tour.
this effort by JV appears to be equal to that of Floyd the day he went off early and crushed the field. I still don't think this is over, the Col Loze is tough and the decent into the finish will be hard.
Does it? He smashed the TT last year just let off the last 2k to let wout win. Took way more risks, short TT with climbs was always going to suit him vs the heavier pog
@@thomaspetersen9991 Yup, Pogi needs to go hard and fast and see if he can hold on in the last climb. But if he goes on the final climb the long wind of Vingegaard will win.
Yeah, I also thought of Floyd Landis' crushing win, only to be disqualified for doping soon thereafter. I hope doping isn't in the current pro-cycling field.
I wonder what the time difference might have been if Pogacar had followed Vingegaard? Pogacar seems to me motivated by immediate competition with other riders, but leading out ahead of his prime competitor gave him no metric with which to find motivation. Oh, how about those old early 90's non-suspended mountain bikes! As per Gino Bartali, I recently read a biography of his life, both before, during, and after WW2. He indeed was a hero on his bike in all three phases of his career - a great man, actually. He was able to do his war time feats on the bicycle due to his high reputation as a racer, established before the war, in Italy.
I’m not sure it would have made any difference. Pogacar went before Roglic in 2020 and blew him out of the water. Also, he was receiving real time updates on Jonas during the ride today, so he knew he was losing time. Pogi himself said today he went all out and was on his limit the entire time.
TDF 2024 will be even harder for Pog to win, since there is a possibility of Roglic, Remco, and healthy Egan on the roster. I wonder how Pog vs Jonas will go.
