I need to make up for the time I spent completing this silly project.
This amp will be up for sale once completed for anyone local who's interested.
I just picked up one of these amps, it's been gigged regularly over the course of it's 30 years, has had several repairs and a few small upgrades to keep it going, but it's due for a full rebuild. Looks like it has all the original caps. I would love to buy one of these boards and breath some new life into and otherwise great little amp.
Nice work! Bringing new life to this Peavey and it sounds great. 🤘
I wish someone would sell a layout to hand wire a Classic 30 I have built a 5F1 clone and love it but I would really like to hand wire my Peavey Classic 30 would be a fun project. I saw a guy who did it with a bunch of mods but I just want a standard 30 with just necessary mods like bias. Even a flat board layout with real tube sockets and pots would be good. Really like the video.
Fantastic video Brad. I bought a new Classic 30 in 2023. It's fine but one thing i am curious about is the boost switch. Is there anyway that a pot could be installed for a varible boost? Have a good one man.
Great video, Brad -- and that Classic 30 sounds pretty awesome. Thanks for the videos. Much appreciated.
Well done Brad 👏
Oi Brad. Very impressed. I picked up Part 1 because I spotted a Classic 30 and wanted to get a peek inside - valve seats mounted to the board! Yeah nah I'll let that one slide and concentrate on what I've got (Mesa F50 & AC30 C2X). Many thanks mate!
Rohan Hunt,
(Now stuck in Philadelphia PA)
Well well well, guess what the Classic 30 shares with the Mesa F50 & AC30 C2X?
All PCB mounted valve sockets!
It's less of a worry if they're not biased to cook and if the PCB is a higher quality through-hole plated version with a logical layout. This can be said for the Vox, but not the Mesa.
@BradsGuitarGarage yip. Engineer's nightmare. If it karks, it's parts. In the Booger's favour, the ax covers bed into the chassis.. 6L6's all two of them are a nice fit.
@BradsGuitarGarage p.s. salvaged some useful valves from irreparable rtr, put one of the Telefunken ecc83/12ax7 in zer Wox, odd man out's a Mullard ECC83 from a long-ago service at Audiolab (!) which is currently V1 in Booger (but will end up in zer aysee sirty..
Looking good Brad. Great work as usual man i wish your shop was here in the states.
Nice work brother! Glad to see you finally got to test that design. I foresee a BGG kit board in your future, or even better, a BGG custom combo!
That's the plan, mate.
Not here to f**k spiders as they say in Australia.
Your videos are coming along really nice man!
Thanks mate.
8:08 Putting the shoulder of the rivet against the fiberglass is more secure and less likely to cause damage than having the bulge on that side. If you chose to do it the other way to get more clearance you could use a metal washer between the between the bulge and the board. But ... you won't get the nose of the rivet gun in place with an L-bracket that small.
Nice job man...Well done, very informative..Love the amp..Ed..uk..😀
Well done, Brad and yeah it actually sounds pretty ROCK!
I kinda want to keep this one, Wes.
I'll only get about $500-600 for it anyway.
But only we know what's under the hood!
The sound of victory (!)
Lovely work mate. I’m a fan of these amps had one for many years when they were released. Always found it a great recording amp. I ended up swapping it for an ounce of weed when I was in my mid 20s…idiot. 😎
Well, it was an ounce I guess.
@@BradsGuitarGarage Yeah it was just sitting around at that stage as Id moved onto JCM800s and full quads etc...But yeah I really liked that amp. Never used it live but a killer little recording amp if I remember rightly. As a rebuild that is beautiful work mate. What other PCBs have you gone on to design? Anything that a hack hobbyist might be interested in using for a build?
Working on some things but the repairs keep flooding in, so no time to progress with them just yet, but hopefully some more movement toward the end of the year.
In the meantime I reckon you'd be very interested in Jason from Headfirst Amplification and his wares. Check him out and tell him I sent you.
@@BradsGuitarGarageyeah he’s a fkn legend. I’ve already built on 4 of his boards. 👍🏻🍻
Hey nice work
Great job! Its a bit like someone putting calfskin leather seats they've hand sewn into a Yaris!
Good analogy.
With how this thing sounds and how long it will now last, the owner will feel like a king/queen for very little outlay.
Cool videos! Cheers
Hi Brad ! can u like me to were I can that type of gun ?
AT 5:50 on the PCB what is the interleaved track for? Capacitance? Also when inserting the many wire of the daughter board cut the long legs so that they are on a slope then you only need to get one in at a time.
I think it's a sort of poor-man's ferrite bead, to suppress RF interference.
Nice work. I really like this amp. Mine just came back from a visit to its maker. Question. I know it’s only 30W but why does the bass suffer so much when I turn it up past 5 or so? Is there a mod or a fix for this? Just gets muddy and less defined. Single coil guitars.
Reducing the early stage bypass cap values and the coupling cap values later in the signal chain can address this.
Look into the term "blocking distortion" if you want to learn more.
This is assuming the amp is otherwise healthy.
The Bill Burr of Amp repair hahah lol
I'm funnier, tho.
I cut my buss wires a bit long and fed them one by one
DC heaters for the preamp valves (around 21:30)? I'm surprised because DC heaters are unusual on guitar amps. I've been trying to get time to figure out where FILA and FILB come from on my Delta Blues. I'll get there some day soon ...
The schematic is all over the internet.
is it not less job to modifie it on a hand wire amp ? same part but whit out that shit 3 boards
Are you considering a members or patreron membership for these videos
Maybe when we hit 10k or so subs if that ever happens.
Maybe I need to stop swearing first. Lol.
@@BradsGuitarGarage Quit cussing? Get stuffed, wanker.
@@BradsGuitarGarage Never!
Good Lawd your fucking brilliant !!!!1
Nope, just persistent.
I used to have a classic 30 great amp 🤣 I think the classic 30 is like a dog if you live in a apartment what the hell are you thinking owning one if you don't take the bastard out 🤣
I hate dogs so i got rid of it after buying new valves basically giving it away
