    Cheryl, I love when you say “Bye for now!” You sound so warm and friendly, which I’m certain you are. I made your Cumberland Pie and hubby loved it. So did I! He’s still talking about it. A very Happy New Year and take care of that cold. 🥰

    That all looked so delicious!! Some of those dishes, like the mash and tatties and the mince pie and veggies, make me so nostalgic for my Granny's and Granda's cooking.
    Luckily, there is a big Scottish population in the Canadian city where I live, so we have several stores that specialize in Scottish foods.
    I've already made my Granny's stovies recipe for a couple of family dinners, but your channel is inspiring me to make more of her and my Granda's recipes...food is a great way to stay in touch with your family's roots and history. 💞

    All the meals look great! I did not realize in Scotland a mince pie can be sweet or savory. In the US we call the sweet one mincemeat pie even though it doesn't have meat in it. The savory one looks really yummy!!

    Hi Cheryl, I'm not sure if you are aware but Aldi currently have their slow cooker as a special buy here in England. It's a digital cooker with a delay start function & a keep warm facility. It automatically switches to keep warm when the cooking time runs out. I did a banana & walnut cake on Sunday and your Chinese style chicken curry yesterday, it works a treat. only £27.99

    Finally the explanation for TEA! as a US citizen I couldn’t understand that but it’s very cute ! Thank you for explaining.
    For us - Tea = Dinner or Supper . Chips = French Fries. Mince = Ground Beef . We = Small 😀
    Welcome from Florida and happy New Year! love your video content and look forward to it every week. I lmust look for a Irish/Scottish food place where I can try these pies you have so much of. They look delicious ! I’d really like to try them as we don’t really have them here in the states but we do have a lot of ethnic restaurants so I’ll have to do some research on that. BTW! I shop at Aldi’s all the time because their prices are wonderful. Thank you for taking the time to do wha5 you do for us. Take care of that cold !

  • @elizabethshaw734
    @elizabethshaw734 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    For the Americans if you have ever made hamburger and gravy on rice or hamburger gravy on rice that is basically what this is only with mashed potato. I make mince stew as well like I used to make in the UK. I am a bigger potato fan than I am rice except with a curry. Naan bread is also going to be easier to find any us then chapatis although I've had a couple of caregivers who taught me how to make chapati. ;-) if you want to have Swede then you're going to want a rutabaga and please don't overcook it to that real acerbic cabbage flavor! It is lovely and I like to cook mine in the oven and then mash it sometimes I mash it with potatoes and sometimes I mash it alone. I should be teaching Scottish cooking classes over here because I grew up on it every time we went to my grandmother's house and my mother her mother was French Canadian and absolutely hated my grandmother's Scottish food if you want to have Swede then you going to want a rutabaga and please don't over cook it to that acerbic cabbage flavor!

I really wanted to try the skirlie as well but I couldn’t find any pinnhead oatmeal here in America at the few stores I was able to check. We had ours with some peas. What's For Tea? I’m not sure if you’ve heard of Lewis Capaldi he’s very popular at the moment and performing at a festival called ‘TRMSMT’ on Glasgow Green in Glasgow? Going to go there & then staying a bit longer to explore and things, I want to try & get to Edinburgh as well! It is the longest that I’ve been from home I live in Cambridge so 6 and a half hours for me but I love adventures so proper looking forward to it!! Xx

    My mouth started to water when you started dishing out the Mince and Tatties.
    The problem with the Tea/Dinner thing is that the main meal used to be near midday and was called Dinner and Tea was 4:30-5:00 oclock and was light as in Bread and Jam. Now it seems our main meal is in the evening and Lunch got included as the midday medium meal.
    It is confusing, I used to have a School Dinner, substantial grub now the poor dears only have School Lunch.

    I'm in the USA and I would so eat turnips and such if they were already mashed. Silly people here don't do much with turnips, parsnips, etc.

      @Ellen C I soften my spaghetti squash in the microwave for 5 mins and then let it cool off too so it is much easier to cut

      @Ellen C I have a lot of arthritis in my hands, so strength to cut them is hard for me.

      @Ellen C I wish I could give you some ..a friend of mine gave me 5 huge ones and now I will be eating squash forever, lol..Let it sit in the microwave to let it cool off about 15/20 mins because it will be HOT but it is definitely much easier to cut and scrape seeds out that way..I usually put olive oil salt and pepper and face down on a cookie sheet but I think my mom used to boil it
