    I was unconvinced of the benefits of doing an undercut just to get my middle finger slightly higher but your explanation of rounding the guard rather than just raising it has me on board now. You should make more videos.

    Wow, I have been doing undercuts just like yours for 20 years. I never knew it was a thing. Cool, it sure makes the Glocks soooo much more comfortable..I use a propane torch to clean it all up when I'm done grinding and sanding, it makes it look like a factory finish when I'm done..But be careful not to use a lot of heat in one area to long..ONLY FOR PROFESSIONAL CRAFTSMAN..

  • @slypperyfox
    @slypperyfox 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    Thank you thank you. I didn't need to get a higher grip, per se, but I did need to take something off the rear of the triggerguard to ease the pain on my middle knuckle. This was never an issue with my G19, G22, G23 or G29 but, boy howdee, I needed it on my new G30! It ain't as purdy as yours but it gets the job done. I just used the 1/4 inch barrel to shave it out of the way then used my files to get most of the flashing then 320 grit sandpaper to smooth it on out.

      @@llGreyll. Well dont get mad at the man for his opinion. Everyone is entitled to one. I tend to agree with him. Glock does kind of suck balls. You are spending 500 bucks for a sub-par firearm off the shelf. The only thing they have going for them is their reliability, and the endless after market support. Glock as a company rarely listens to what the consumer wants. They just do their own thing. You tell me another company that gets away with producing the same firearms over and over again. If it weren't for the aftermarket support with Glocks, their fan base would be down significantly. It seems to be the ultimate taboo in the gun world to speak ill word against Glock, but news flash. Its not the best gun in the world. They definitely aren't the cheapest gun for the money. There are plenty of firearms that will run just as reliably, so thats not a selling point for me. I own 3 Glocks, though I am not the biggest fan of Glock, have handled and shot just about every Glock in their line up. To me they do require some significant upgrading to get them to a point where you actually enjoy shooting it. There are a litany of reasons I dont care for Glocks. I wont bore anyone with them here though. So why do I own them if I dont like them? Well the Glock 17 I own I bought before I knew much about firearms. Then when I got my CCW I started Carrying a Glock 26, until I discovered the CZ P-01 and the Glock was doomed to collect dust in my safe. The Glock 19 was a gift from my wife.
      You fanboys just have to come to terms with the fact that not everyone likes Glock's. It is what it is. Get over it. Enjoy your Glocks if you like them, but dont bust peoples balls that dont like them

Do you have a tutorial on the off hand forward cut?
    While it’s so much better now and not needed , I wouldn’t mind doing the other undercut for looks as well. Your undercuts look great and you’re right , now that I’m more aware. I do notice a lot of “high end” armorers that still don’t take enough away from the rear hump...

    What will also help to get rid of deep gouges is to hand sand in different directions for each different grit (let's say going N to S on 300, then going E to W for 400, and so on)

      I hand sanded some bevels into the halfmoons on my G19.5 magwell and you really wouldn't know it wasn't factory unless you held it side by side or I told you. I wrapped the sand paper around a dowel and used that to help set my angle and then worked up in grit until finally I finished it with a P800 and it blends just fine. The result was that I no longer hang up un the half moon cuts that Glock saw fit to cut in.
      I have considered doing a more dramatic bevel, but I don't think it is necessary.

  • @TimothyMerlino-p7u
    @TimothyMerlino-p7u ปีที่แล้ว

    I think it's weird that you referred to it as improper... When in reality you're just stating your preference. In fact the majority of undercuts are for those of us who carry a firearm like a Glock 19 but have larger hands as I'm 6'1 225. So by bringing the undercut upward and increasing the height of the grip it has nothing to do with the bore axis or recoil management but rather giving me more real estate on a smaller pistol whereas on a Glock 17 I could understand just bringing it forward. So I like what you're doing and the work looks great but bringing the undercut up is not improper it's just not how you like to do it

    • @battlereadyarms3144
      @battlereadyarms3144  ปีที่แล้ว

      For the majority of people it would be an inferior way to do it. As someone who's had thousands of guns come and go for work and have regularly been told by customers that it's the best feeling undercut they've had compared to some other shops, I would say I have some level of expertise and firsthand knowledge across a wide array of customers and comparisons. If you look at the companies highly touted for their frame work (Rocket City, Lead Barron, Boogeyman, etc) you'll find they virtually all do their single undercuts in a similar fashion. Why? Because it's the best way to do it for the majority of people. If you grip a gun a particular way that your finger and not the knuckle rests under the trigger guard or have knuckles small enough that you can just cut it up as high as it'll go then great, but that's not optimal for most people and can create a worse rubbing and Glock knuckle effect than if it were just left alone. So while I agree, for some cutting it up high is great, there's a great many people in which that is not going to feel great or as good. The way I suggest doing it will work for everyone. What you're suggesting is very individually based. And if you cut it like that and decide it's not ideal there's going to be little do about it since it's cut up high you can no longer bring the cut more forward without thinning it out too much.

    Couldn’t you just save time polishing by using a higher grit to begin with? It would remove less material but if higher grits don’t gouge then why not just use a high grit all the way?

      Technically yes, but it's going to ultimately be slower and quite likely cause more hassle. You have to cut slower as higher grits will want to melt stuff. I've done over 800 guns at this point, and I know a lot of other guys with similar numbers, and everyone starts low and goes high. It removes bulk quickly without melting, and then you run through the various grits relatively easy afterward.

    • @icya5844
      @icya5844 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      You dont. Once you do most of the shaping you sand the higher grits by hand. Wrap the sandpaper around a marker or something and get in there by hand

      You can certainly go too far with it where you risk a lot of flexing and instability in your trigger guard. Snapping and breaking and rare due to the polymer being very flexible, but excessive flexing isn't good either.

      Hours. Just go slow. Start with a less rough grit on a dremel. 30 minutes to perfection.
