Anyone that knows someone going through depression go show them some love❗️They need it right now specially with this pandemic❗️Luv u guys and see u next video🤟🏾
Fight depression and anxiety myself. Was in the hospital for a month 7yrs ago bc I was so suicidal. Hopefully song can help others who don't fight this nightmare understand what we're going through. I made it through...still fighting daily. Get help and know you're not alone. Some have it much worse than others. But you have purpose and a reason for being here! Hang in there!
BTW drummer is Lars
i fight depression through bi-polar disorder. this song as well as in my darkest hour and e toute le monde by megadeth get me through a lot of it...oh and the guitarist is Kirk Hammett
Spot on I struggle with depression and anxiety have tried suicide I always hated to hear the same speech of it gets better and so forth to me it just makes it harder
There is a symbol to communicate understanding and empathy in regards to suicide. It is the semi-colon.
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Project_Semicolon
By the way , ma'am the cap you're wearing belongs to pink Floyd.. so I hope you cover wish you were here
Song helped me get through, music does that to millions.
The music gets it.
music sorts me out...
It's working today
Amen in tears now
Music heals I truly believe that
Metallica almost always blows peoples minds when they listen to the lyrics
This song literally got me through a really dark place. I lost my job, my father, my mother and went to jail within ten months. I grieved for years and self medicated to forget the depression but the depression was a hundred times worse when I came down. Thought about suicide everyday for about 6 years. Metallica got me through the abyss. React to METALLICA'S "welcome home Sanitarium"
This song also got me through some bad time. Lost my job, gf and home. Managed to get through it. Hope your through the worst of it
So sorry for your lost, God bless
agreed man, it's destroying my life. this song helps though
@@andrewkeyser8428 Been there too. Deftones "Leathers" helped me also. Gave me a kick in the ass. I hope it does the same for you.
I’m glad you made it through!!!!! Keep it going my friend! You’re NEVER alone!
This is an anti- suicide song. James doesn't advocate suicide.
Yes, but it can go both ways. It depends on individual concept of “ why am I here” meaning “why him” instead of a love one, girlfriend/boyfriends death (PC?) or best friends death, question in ones life! Look up Cliff Burton (bass) best friend of James Hatfield (Leader singer/middle guitar) tragic death. James Hatfield couldn’t cope with the tragic death of his best friend! He blamed himself took to drugs to take away his pain. He wrote these lyric right after his best friends death. It was his dark time of his life! When he said, Goodbye it’s either: I decide to change and live or just ended all enough said.................Fortunately he decided to live and he still alive so far?!?
@@RAD-82ndABN I also think he was suicidal because their equipment was stolen. Potentially compromising their Project. (Metallica)
There's a Nietzsche quote: "Without Music, Life would be a mistake" -- he wasn't being hyperbolic.
James Hetfield said Music was the voice he didn't have.
@@RAD-82ndABN Not sure how you write a song about someone's death 2 years before they died. These lyrics were actually written after their equipment got stolen and James felt powerless.

It can go BOTH ways as explained by our friend
Also their first three albums were the best albums they made
James Hetfield..singer, rhythm guitar.
Kirk Hammett.. Guitar
Lars Alrich.. Drums
Cliff Burton.. R. I. P.. Original bass
Jason New stead..former bass
Robert Trujillo.. Current bass
Original bassist was Ron McGovry
Original lead guitarist was
Dave Mustaine ( of now is the founding member of Megadeth)
Along with James Hetfield & Lars Ulrich
Just for the sake of Grammar-nazionalism:
1. Lars Ulrich
2. Jason Newstead
3. And, of course
Roberto
Agustin
Miguel
Santiago
Samuel
Trujillo
Veracruz
@@mayflowertucci I completely read that in Robert's voice, LOL
You have to watch Metallica live to truly appreciate them. Watch creeping death live in Moscow 1991. There were over a million people there the energy is insane.
I suffer from psych affected bipolar and PTSD I've listen to Metallica since I was a kid the have some many messages in their songs
The thing I always liked about this song is that even though the lyrics are so dark and final, the music is the opposite, like the lyrics are just the thoughts, but the music is the mind fighting against the thoughts. The music pulls you out of the depression.
I'm 54 and this was my first Break Up song , I was 17 and she broke up with me and My world was over , I played this song so much I learned how to play it on guitar , Teen love is Powerful , I wanted to Die , looking back I was silly . but I still miss her .
That’s what worries me about single folks or those without close friends who deal with depression during this quarantine.
They might be lacking the support system to keep them from spiraling downward and feeling alone & helpless.
We got this music
My senior year of high school I had to be hospitalized for sever depression. I quit living, eating, sleeping, I just laid in bed closing my eyes tight praying that I could just fade away. This song helped me overcome my depression and kept me from ending my life as it showed me that I wasn't alone in my despair and that what I was feeling was normal and natural. It allowed me to understand the feelings that had consumed me. Metallica saved my life as that was over twenty years ago. I still suffer from depression but music is what I turn to, to keep me from stepping over the edge. The first time I attempted suicide I was six, depression is a real enemy that pushes positivity in every form away as it exacerbates the feelings of isolation and failure. You feel as though everyone's love and affection are misplaced as how could you be worthy of it. The feelings of hopelessness and helplessness are suffocating and shuts even light out as it drags you deeper and deeper into the cesspool's of your darkest thoughts. Songs like this help to pull you out of the abyss as it isn't saying that there is anything wrong in how you feel but rather that it's natural and most importantly that it's ok. It's ok to feel like there's no tomorrow for you, because after the darkness there is always dawn. My faith is and music are what keeps me going these days. My faith won't allow for the cowardess of suicide no matter how deep the depressive episode. Thanks for this reaction and please keep the reactions coming.
Love when jai smiles to this music 🎶 , man she's becoming a metal head . 🤘🤘
The girl is hearing Metallica. The dude is feeling Metallica.
I have been fighting depression for 5 years. Music especially metallica has been a huge help in my life. This song explains me and many others perfectly. Thank you for reacting to this song.
I love that y'all reach out of your comfort zone and react to some heavy metal. 🤘
Rap/Metal have a lot in common when it comes to the extremes.
This song has been credited with saving lives. Sometimes it's enough that someone else knows how you feel....that you're not alone. I also don't suffer from depression, but my wife does. I just try to do what seems to work. So the only advice I have is just try to find what works. Metallica is LIT....Fire... Try "Eye of the Beholder" Great reaction.
You have to remember in 1984 people didn’t talk about depression, at least nothing like they do now, but great music even written in a different period of time has a way of meeting people where they are in life at that moment. Metallica’s lyrics to me have always been very underrated and overlooked behind their musicianship.
Damn how much salt are you going to take down! Check your blood pressure!
I think he is trying to keep his salt level up because the alcohol pulls it out of your body they do that or eat pickled vegetables in Russia when they have a night of drinking Vodka
Lyrically, this song is so powerful. Dead on describing the felling and thinking of someone slowly sinking into that blackness
Alot of ppl are missing out on some amazing songs not listed to lyrics of songs. Love how you two are showing ppl different kinds of music. Mad love & respect for you both.
3 - 17 - 21 God bless both of you for taking the time to react to one of the best Heavy Metal songs of all time
Appreciate it !
There’s a song on St Anger called “The Unnamed Feeling” that’s another song James wrote about depression. One line in particular that jumped out at me. “I loose myself in a crowded room, you fool, you fool, it’ll be here soon.” To me that talks about how you isolate yourself during bouts of depression. You can be at a party and everyone is having a good time and you feel completely disconnected, all alone inside of your head.
This song helped me get through some dark times through the first few years of my struggle with sobriety. It still helps me get through tough times to this day. Love it and cherish it. And just a quick shout out to you two. Love the reactions. Funny and entertaining as hell.
Jai, I see the Pink Floyd hat, how about comfortably numb or have a cigar from them. Also Van(LFR) shouted y’all out, which is cool imo in his stream
How can a song that recognizes despair so easily make you feel so much joy so happily
Fascinating thing about this song, a lot of people tried to politicize it, saying it glorifies and promotes suicide -- yet since the song has been released, the band has received tens of thousands of letters thanking them for the song, saying it helped them get through depression and suicidal periods.
Metallica - My Friend Of Misery
Couple decades in, and I just now thought to call this the 'Karen' song. Read the lyrics and think about it....
@@mfree80286 Haha lol
Yes, great call!
The reason for this "depression" song was their equipment being stolen while on tour early in their career, with some items having sentimental value. So it's not literally about suicide, just being depressed in a shitty situation. In the end i never cared about the subject though, this song is instrumental greatness!
they did get heavy backlash over the perceived suicide message.
@@DirtMaguirk It was the usual connived boomer anti-'new' BS. Kids like it, so it must be horrible and done away with....
Ummmmmm u seen the lyrics right!
Michael Free lol but Metallica are themselves part of the boomer generation. They are all born between 61-63, in the end of that era. The reaction was just a symptom of an older more conservative view of what messages could be played back then. Something that seems crazy nowadays.
@@spacefertilizer 61-63 is Gen X, Baby Boomer was 1945-1950 after WW2
Please do Unforgiven or Unforgiven Too if you haven't already. For Whom the Bell Tolls is another good one.
Can't wait for "The Unforgiven Too" in Metallica's next album
Absolutely, all great songs! But im afraid it's Unforgiven 2
@@ilaybenshoshan7567 but pronounced as too, it's stylized.
Unforgiven II (two) *
But yes! The Unforgiven, please!
It's always helped me to remember that no matter how bad I'm feeling in a moment, there will be better days! It's really hard for loved ones who've never experienced anxiety or depression, to grasp the pain within our own mind. It took my husband 5 years of watching me have panic attacks, periods where I went through insomnia because I couldn't stop my mind from racing, & days where I couldn't leave the bed or stop crying before he finally accepted fully that none of this was something that I could talk myself out of! He did his best for me. No one can truly understand something that they haven't gone through, but you sure as hell can try! Good man, Half! Jai, I pray you start feeling better soon!
Now we’re talking!
I got into Metallica when I was 12 or 13 and was really drawn to this song! I was already contemplating thoughts of suicide; just leaving this earth. This song didn't draw me there but I was drawn to it because of the words and passion and so much I could relate to. As life went on, the sorrow grew worse and worse but rather than end my life, I turned to music for solace; even this song down through the years. I'm 43 years old now, never thought I'd live this long. I just got married last year and we moved to Kenya for a couple years ... FROM CHICAGO! Life is an adventure! I found Christ when I was 19 years old and really understood it all in my early 30s. Music is still a refuge for me! This song is a reminder to me that we just need to hold on, look to God! I'm gonna start a family with my beautiful wife real soon. I have a great job. I have a beautiful motorcycle. I have passions that I explore. I have so much LIFE!!! I cherish this song!!!
This song was written by James (lead singer). In Boston on a tour, their U-Haul was stole with most of their gear inside. James' Marshall Amp, was his favorite. His mother bought it for him after his dad left them when he was 13. Not long after, she died of cancer. This song is about felling helps and dying inside.
It's an amazing thing to see the message of a song hit home with someone so precisely.
Great job guys. Love to hear Metallica Disposable Heroes with lyrics or Sanitarium
My friends... I have banged this song since I was like 13! Partying, driving... but most of all grieving, hurting, not wanting to be here anymore! It's pulled me through...
"I was me, but now he's gone..."
There will never be no old me, it will always be me... wading through swaths of debris! My reaction drives my motivation... this is only a portion of the lessons I've learned! Ty...
I love how Metallica write lyrics and music together as a concept. The beginning of the harmonies, after he has said goodbye, is the point of no return for this person. The pills have been swallowed or the wrists have been cut. The solo represents his life leaving his body, his life racing through his mind as he waits to die. The ferocity of the solo at the end is his pain leaving his body. Then it fades to black.....He’s now free.
This song might be the best and deepest insight into depression I've ever heard. It always leaves me speechless. By the way, suicide isn't cowardice, it's the last resort of a tortured human being. A human that needs to know that the world is a better place with them in it. I know that you didn't mean it Inna bad way, but it needed to be said.
Hey, Jai, anxiety/panic disorder with a side of depression, here.
Thanks for saying you're one of us, the isolation and feeling of being alone in suffering hurts a lot of people who have these issues.
Dude, your girl cool as fuck! The smile on her face is beautiful to see. Peace you guys!
Song writers and poets can Express what so many feel with words that dont come easy to the rest of us.
One of the saddest songs I’ve ever heard.
Half you look like you are really into METALLICA!!! THEIR STYLE FITS YOU 💜🎸🎶🎸🎶🎸luv u guys 🥰😘
Thank you for relating to this song. I work in mental health, and have depression aswell. Good shit. Metallica saved me in my teens. For real.
This made me smile. I suffer from clinical depression and anxiety. It sucks. I wish I didn’t have to take medication but I do. Metallica is my favorite band. Awesome reaction.
Wow, totally relate, never listened to lyrics, learning and experiencing with you. Thank you
this lady is wise if she understands such texts and knows how to feel God bless her
This song has a whole new meaning now than it did when I was younger. In 2016 I was a paid emt. While ransporting a patient we were in a bad accident. To make the story short my driver hit a pickup. As I was starting to stand up to due a full accessment on my patient. I watched a semi rear-end us. Sending us back into the first truck. I now have ptsd my career is over. That doesn't include all the pain and injuries I will have the rest of my life.
That last guitar solo and ending was the sweet release of death , Beautiful build up
This song really helped me out back in the day Metallica holds a special spot in my heart I've seen them live 4 times best metal band in my opinion thanks for the reaction
First video I seen of you two....loved the way she connected to the song....this song is 💯 percent about depression and suicide...the title Fade to Black, Fading to Death...and how the song fades to black in the end is about the fading of yourself through life and troubles....Great video you two, you have a new subscriber.
so true about your statement at the end about being depressed and when your alone and quiet dark thought start entering your mind.
This song has helped me through some pretty dark moments in my life this band has helped me through some dark moments in my life they're awesome me and my girl went and seen them last March in Indianapolis and at 55 years of age it almost 40 Years of playing it was still as amazing as the first time I'd seen them they are an extremely talented group of musicians/songwriters
Metallica "BATTERY"....with lyrics....one of their greatest bangers!!..this song will have you wanting to punch each other...LOL!!!!
Dont drink and listen to battery lol
@@henrymullins4592 yes, not a good idea...lol
Sometimes, people who go through something bad, don't have people that love them.
Seeing you guys so open minded to new music and thoroughly enjoying this makes my day! I love you guys!
Thank u 4 speaking on Mental illness! Acknowledgment from others is Crucial!! Love being a part of the family! YOUR HELPING ME NOT TO FEEL SO LONELY!
love your respect for the musicians here. It is amazing to think all that music is coming from just four dudes. TBF not all metal has this deep meaning and melodic compositions in their songs - but as you likely know not all hip hop or rap is on the same level of greatness either. Metallica was kings of metal for a reason. And Half - keep the faith and stay strong. You don't need to go through your battles with depression/anxiety alone.
Fighting through thoughts, depression and anxiety myself. It's hard to be staring at losing everything you have worked for, for a second time. This is the type of music on my current playlist. People should be very aware of their neighbors right now. We need to look out for each other now more than ever.
Enjoy your videos, keep them coming.
Great read on this one guys, there are a lot of people that need to hear this and really rethink what they are thinking about.
I highly relate to what she said about anxiety and depression but not being suicidal. And with the positive people, sometimes we just don't want to hear that. We just want the feeling gone.
Lars Ulrich - drums , James Hetfield- lead vocals songwriters the Lennon and Mcartney of the metal world.
This song really pushes me to keep going and pursue things that make me happy
What up, what up, what up! Five Finger Death Punch “Wrong Side of Heaven.” Jai gonna cry, but it’s such a worthwhile song to hear. So much meaning and feelings.
l Know the reaction videos of African Americans reacting to whlte people music is a big thing now but I appreciate you guys adding to it.
I grew up with this music, its refreshing watching you guys appreciate it. You guys are great.
I love you guys, you're beautiful people. I go through it everyday, but I get up, and I do my thing. Just your commentary to this song, you guys make me feel better. I love you guys, God bless you.
React to NOTHING ELSE MATTERS. -METALLICA
Knowing the story behind the song makes the song even more intense.
Song helped save my life. Forever greatful to Metallica for that
Her smile is so beautiful.
Love y’all’s reactions! Thank you.
Love that old Metallica. It always amazed me how they could play that heavy loud power music. Then fall right into some of the most beautiful peaceful uplifting music you could hear. Its like pink Floyd goodbye blue sky. The song is about death & destruction but the music that accompanies is beautiful.
Also - recommendation for re-watching "One", watch with lyrics. Having that video in the background really messes up the true experience of One, and what its about. Again, great video!
You 2 are awesome and such a joy to watch!
One of my all-time favorite songs.
Yo! Absolutely my favorite Metallica song! I still remember when I first heard it. I dig you guys. I appreciate your honest and open minded journey. Through the world of metal. Y'all stay up.
Peace
The greatest thing about reaction channels is that they expose so many people to music they would never hear
Damnit I got to see these guys in concert when I was 13!!!!! And I had NOO F'N CLUE WHAT I WAS WITNESSING...I was there for korn kid rock, powerman 5000 and other younger bands of that time...I would love to go back to that concert now!!!
1. Bro you love your salt. 2. Girl you doing well with your shit. I'm a Iraq/Afghan vet and know how you feel. 3. You guys look to have eachother loved. I don't normally watch this kind of stuff but you guys are great at doing this shit. And as a Metallica fan I love it. If you do rap would love some Mobb Deep
Great reaction!!! You two are killing it!

My favorite song of all time. Great choice.
One of the best Song ever by Metallica. Masterpiece!!!
One of the most beautiful rock songs ever written and my personal fav. And they sure know how to drop a beat for sure. Album is fire, try For Whom the Bell Tolls next
This guy was feeling the power of Cliff Burtons bass. Cool to watch.
I'm person that deals with it every day I deal with it by escaping through music and mental health is no joke mine was caused by head injuries.
But having people around that understand what you are going through always helps.
I've always applied this song to just severe aggravation where you think the whole world is against you but I've never not gotten transported out of that feeling after listening to this song! That ending solo hits so good I always feel like everything turned out OK! And as for stopping in the middle of a solo I've never understood why people get upset. For 1. most fans have probably heard this song upwards of 5000x and 2 its never not brought me immediately back to that feeling when you resumed play! To me you guys reaction is 1000x more valuable than the never stop a solo shtick! You guys are good keep it up. Try sanitarium! Pretty much speaks on the mind control thats going on right now.
Thank you for these reactions. You guys are great and make me smile! Much love!
Y'all on the shit I grew up on love it keep up the grind
Every time you guys are doing the salt, lemon thing while drinking, for a split second, it looks like the bathrooms of the NYC clubs back in the day. You'd walk in, and there's little crowds huddled and pouring little bumps of Bolivian marching powder on to their hands between their forefinger and thumbs, lift it to their nose, snort, repeat. Club flashbacks. Cheers.
My fellow Dane Lars on the drums. They have another intense song called 'The Day That Never Comes'. Very intense. They wrote Fade to Black after their basist Cliff Burton died in a bus accident in Sweden.
Lovin' the Pink Lloyd hat the queen is rockin'.
DOPE AS HELL! Pink Floyd is epic!
On that one and all of them James Hatfield plays rhythm guitar and lead vocals Kurt Hammond plays league guitar Jason newsted is the bass player and the Kick-Ass drummer is Lars Ulritch
PLEASE!!! Keep the Metallica coming
You are very brave and strong for admitting your battles with anxiety and depression since it is a stigma in the black community. I wish you nothing but the best and hope you overcome. I also have battled depression and loneliness my whole life. Glad u also have a supportive partner who doesn't seem to look down on you for it. Amazing song one of my favorites. Love your guys channel.
