Why does the US not seem as cautious with its funding for Israel as it is with Unrwa?

  • Prem Thakker, a reporter at The Intercept, questioned US State Department spokesperson Matthew Miller about the lack of caution in US funding for Israel, despite the International Court of Justice (ICJ) stating that Israel may plausibly be committing genocide. Compared to its immediate suspension of funding for Unrwa over allegations that a very small number of its staff were involved in the October 7th attack.
    Matthew Miller responded, 'I think there’s a false equivalency embedded in that question.'

      Not enough pushback from him, or the other journalist. I get it, if he pushes too much, his permit to be there and ask questions will be revoked. But still, dont let blatant lies like that stand, they are suffocation our humanity. It's becoming more and more us vs them. It's what Israel wants, not realising things will never go back to normal, now that the whole world saw them for what they really are, genocidal and supremacists.

    There's one more difference between the funding of Israel and Unrwa: Funding Unrwa goes to aid refugees and people in need. It's not a military fund, unlike the fund that goes to Israel. It seems that Miller's argument is that 12 out of 30000 people who "might" be involved in a terror attack is a valid reason to stop humanitarian aid to Palestinians before investigation, while actually murdering 30000 Palestinians by the IDF requires thorough investigation while continuing to fund the Israeli war machine. That is the US "moral equivalency". The US proves they are morally bankrupt.

    Under international law, if war crimes have been committed by one side, that's irrelevant to the question of whether they have been committed by the other side.

    • @btmillion2813
      @btmillion2813 6 หลายเดือนก่อน +30

      It’s like he turns a blind eye to the vital facts of the matter. There is overwhelming merit behind the intentional killing of civilians on the IDF side, far more than what hamas did, and yet they still engage in this rhetoric.

    • @btmillion2813
      @btmillion2813 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      It seems that the way these spokespeople whitewash the acts of the IDF is by raising the bar of evidence so high on one end and not the other. Many times Miller will say “I don’t know what etc etc circumstances happened surrounding this” or “we asked our counterparts to conduct an investigation” which essentially leaves Israel as the US’s sole source of ground truth regarding the matter.
      It should also be noted that given Israel’s commitment of mass atrocities against journalists and pundits, the reporting on these situations and war crimes is also jeopardized. This muddies the waters on what to be absolute certain of, but what is more certain is who is responsible. On the other hand, accusations against 12 members of unrwa is somehow enough to the US as far as evidence is concerned. The end result is the US “playing it safe” when it comes to acts of terrorism but being very loose when it comes to the IDF

    A genocide would be intentional and we have plenty of evidence of intentional and sadistic behavior on the part of IDF with them even having a snuff channel.
    Second, theres no evidence that unrwa staff actually did participate in october 7th, so the point about caution with money doesnt reallt make sense. Theyre not terrorists, theyve simply been accused.
    Third, this idea that a "whoopsie" is just a forgettable mistake and doesnt require real monetary consequences or cause real harm is stupid. At this point, the whoopsies have killed and harmed more folks than the intentional killing and civilian capture by Hamas. Handwaving that damage away on the basis of intent is just a stupid way to avoid accountability for your clearly damaging actions.

      "Israel" has not said one true thing since 10/7 (longer, actually, but let's be generous). The idea that anyone should trust anything they say is wild.
      We can't even trust what they say when they have independent verification anymore. Remember when Biden told us that he saw the pictures of the 40 beheaded babies? Are you sure you saw those pictures, Biden? Are you sure? Because there weren't 40 beheaded babies. There weren't 40 dead babies. There weren't 4 dead babies.
      What about the NYT independently confirming the accusations of systematic rape on 10/7... claims that have all shown that there really isn't any evidence at all.
      "Israel" can do nothing but lie. We know that. But we're also learning that independent verification can't be trusted, either. Meanwhile, when the Gaza health ministry would update the number of dead Palestinians, "Israeli" leaders would shout that it is a Hamas controlled organization, and therefore terrorist and false. And yet, not only does that Gaza health ministry have a long track record of reliability, but we also found out that "Israel" was using Gaza health ministry numbers internally.

    a dubious answer from Mr. Miller considering that since October 7th, the Israeli side has committed much more barbarity, including violations to international laws and conventions, than Hamas ever did in their whole history… but somehow, according to him, allegations about 12 or 13 persons possibly participating in one attack is more concerning than a whole army actually slaughtering civilians over a 4-month period, and counting… even when the actions of that army are recognized by significant numbers of international observers, and the ICJ, as plausibly genocidal… and even when cutting funding for the principal humanitarian organization in the region is likely to have catastrophic consequences for the population they're aiding, while cutting funding for the Israeli side will likely merely force them to reconsider their military operations…
    Mr. Miller is right to note that there are false equivalencies embedded in there, but they're not the one he expresses : 1200+ is not equivalent to 28000+ and counting… one day of abhorrent rampage is not equivalent to 4 months of indiscriminate carnage and destruction… UNRWA is not Hamas… and through funding UNRWA the U.S. is not in breach of the Genocide Convention, but through funding the Israeli side, they plausibly are…
