27 years later this and the entire soundtrack gives me chills every time, and makes me freeze up from whatever i'm doing to ponder what we ultimately want to achieve with our lives. The middle of the SNES era will sadly remain the artistic peak of games.... in music, graphics, storytelling and depth.
Illusion of Time/Gaia is a game i hold really close to my heart. The music impressed me as a child. I was as a child not very often impressed. But when i heard this song.... It made me stop and listen... Now hearing it over all those years. It makes me want to go back to the past. Maybe Time is only a illusion. The music just really fits to the game... IT could not have been a wiser choice of this creator to use this music. People who did not play this game do not understand. But you a and i do.
Oh boy... When Hamlet chucked himself into the fire, I fell completely speechless for about 20 minutes straight and didn't even move for awhile when all the dialogue was finished. His sacrifice really hit where it hurts - the whole journey basically started with him, and he was such a true and reliable friend to Will and Kara for so long... and to see him effectively give his goodbyes and give himself up in one final selfless act was both awe-inspiring and heart-shattering. Few times have I ever seen anything in games that left that kind of impact, even from human characters. Hamlet is one of the greatest characters I've seen in games, and he managed to be so while being a freaking PIG who couldn't even talk. Kudos to the creators, and for the song they chose for the moments following that sacrifice. Heck, the other time afterward when this song played following the death of the Jackal (quite possibly one of the most horrifyingly brutal deaths I've seen in a SNES game, by the way) I felt sort of bad for him too, despite how much of a conniving ass he was... although what really got me was a line Kara said after the fact.
Omg I actually started crying listening to this one.. Powerful stuff for a 14 year old to handle, and even if I am 32 today haha the 14 year old just bursted out..
This game tackled some heavy issues. As someone who experienced this as a child as well, I feel the same. The crack in the soul and the urge to fight to fix it.
I don't care what life has put you through, nothing will prepare you for a pig sacrificing himself for you. Nobody could possibly have loved you as much as he did. Life is good at putting you through the worst, but the best will ALWAYS catch you off guard.
One of the saddest deaths in a video game. Only on the endings of the first two Pokémon Mystery Dungeon games and on Hamlet's death in this game did I ever cry because of a game
Vectrex2809 My little brother was maybe two when my older brother and I played this game for the first time and Hamlet's sacrifice traumatized him. To this very day, if you even mention Hamlet, he'll say something like, "That hero of a piggy," or "Such a brave piggy,". ... ... He's twenty three, now.
Snes was awesome!! Best games ever!! Zelda, secret of mana, illusion of time , mystic quest, mario kart, castlevenia, alien rebels, metroid prime, terranigma... It will never be the same :-P
@DeadlyKennen convoluted? no. Its filosophical game about human evolution. I suppose you could say its about the follies of humanity. Humanity acts stupidly and almost destroys itself and is egocentrical They are stuck with their own stubbornness and it holds them back. They are also egocentric and think they are the center of everything. Its also about how humans get a tool and use it for the wrong things,like what europeans did in real life with gunpower when they got fireworks.

I totally agree 💯
Agreed!
This game, Super Metroid, Romance of the Three Kindoms III, and Secret of Evermore will remain my top SNES choices.

Que de souvenirs... c'était la bonne époque.
Merci. Thanks ;-)
This game is truly a masterpiece. It's a shame that Square won't remake this and Terranigma. I would absolutely play it if it were to happen.

When I listen to that song I feel so sad... it is part of my childhood. This game made me love role play games like Final Fantasy VII, VIII and IX.
Hamlet - to eat or not to eat
Snes was awesome!! Best games ever!! Zelda, secret of mana, illusion of time , mystic quest, mario kart, castlevenia, alien rebels, metroid prime, terranigma... It will never be the same :-P
illusion of gaia
quintet at its best,
this and terranigma
simply beautiful
This part of the game was sad. Still love the music.
* Will's dream
* Hamlet's Death
* Will's vision of a futuristic city in the Angkor wat temple. :)
Wow so he dreamt of Siem Reap?
God...what an amazing game...
The solo in the song Hysteria by Muse sounds very similar to the main melody in this tune.
Also, the first part is a bit similar to "Nights in White Satin..." great song with a similar mood.
@CrazyChallengeGamer - Such a noble sacrifice...
so will dreams of death?
Hamlet, Noooooo!!! ...why did you make yourself a BBQ? i wasn't even hungry.... T___T
@Doitsu1988 Wait a minute... "Metroid Prime"? Aren't you confusing something? :P
@DeadlyKennen convoluted? no.

@Mindasphyxiation lmao wow
@wapaha And final fantasy 6 and lufia 1 and 2 and legend of zelda a link to the past are fucking epic.
And even early donkey kong games are awesome.
I thought the lara cliff was the most annoying. ARGHHH

I agree jenova they are not true gamers if this game is a zelda rip-off, rip hamlet sad. Unque game I'll say.
