I think the key to all of this is a layered approach- time is your best ally when it comes to car theft. By building a layered approach, onboard security, OBD port protector, kill switch, steering wheel lock and onboard GPS tracking with warning stickers, you create a complicated set of barriers that the thief has to overcome. Sadly, the goal is to encourage them to move down the street where there may be an easier, less protected vehicle. The same held true years ago for home security, The sticker was the key component of that system, alerting would be thieves that the home was armed. We even had our installation company tell us that what we were really investing in was the sticker as it was the best protection, designed to say, “Move on to another house”.
On Amazon USA there are a LOT of one star reviews for this product. Some claim that it is easy to pull off and it's just 3D printed plastic, not strong enough to secure the port at all.
Works for me. I can't take it off my OBD port. You'll most likely break the port. You can definitely buy more expensive ones if you deem the need. The video is not to promote this product, but the type of product to protect your port. On Amazon Canada, seems like it's a different review with many 5 star reviews. RAV4 owner says it's a snug fit. 🤷
Depending on where it is to be mounted maybe. But black/ under the dash/ at night/ in a nasty spot/ just how are you going to even smash it off without defeating your goal of connecting to your OBDII port? I say you can't do it, I have one on my vehicle now. It would be a hard-go getting it off. In a hurry! The plastic in the 3-D printer unit is as tough as nails. I like it.,
Did I mention I took up cross bow archery? I can hit a target at 50 feet. No sweat. Within 1 inch in fact. Fun way of spending some time when you have nothing better to do.
Nice one! While the screw May seems to be generic but under a tight spot it’s really painful to remove the port lock. The end goal is still to deter the thieves rather than prevent them completely - if they are serious enough they can always armed rob your garage. I hate to hear when someone compare a car’s value to a person’s life or future - the thieves made their choices and they shall bear the consequences. It’s common sense!
On my unit at least the screw is bevelled and fluch when tightened. I will give you $ 200.00 dollars if you can break it open using brute force. You might have to rewire a new one into your car/ but at least it will still be the same car/ in the same spot.
I went one step further and ordered a OBD II port on an exstension cable/ & mounted that where my vehicle one was, and locked my real one with this plastic lock ( a very tough plastic I may add) and tuck it up under my dash. My vehicle, being completly black inside, good luck finding anything in a hurry up under that dash either. I dam near broke my back trying to even remove the panels under ther etc. Nasty spot to ever work in. Trust me. Both this lock and a OBD IIexstention were less then 30 bucks delivered to my front door. Did I mention fuel/ignition relays? Layers folks or a full time German Shepard are the way to keep your vehicle. Bow Wow !
It won't work! You can easily remove the screw by using a plier to grib the sides of the screw and remove it. It should be designed with a counter sink screw.
You can definitely buy a better OBD port protector that has different types of screws. The screw is sunken in, so pilers won't work. Plus you can buy unique screws that would make it harder to take out. The point of the video is to have one.
Not in a million years. Or, you have the wrong screw. Mine sits in a recess/flush/and with that special safety screw. I got it all for less then 20 bucks. You are not going to break that 3-D printed plastic polymer either. NO WAY!
I asked this question on a different video and it was too vague for you to assist. When trying to to run the scanner app on my wife’s car, I don’t know the correct menu option to choose when setting up the car for the first time. I can’t figure out which setting is for my wife’s 2024 Lexus NX 450h+. I was going to upload a picture of the screen in the scanner app but can’t figure out how or if you can.
got one/ works simple. Good value and unbreakable. It is a dark and awkward area there under the dash. are to try and break it. The plug will be destroyed. Layers are the best. They are lazy creatures of the night.
If someone wants to steal it and break it, they definitely can do it. They can also damage the OBD port if not drilled correctly as well. It's to prevent or delay them from accessing the port. So it's not like less than one minute the car is gone.
I found some bolts, but will need to test. I asked the seller and they provided the bolt is M5x12 (Metric 5mm thread x 12mm long) - if you are interesting in finding special bolts

Well said. The biggest one is to not park outside overnight. That would minimize the chances a lot.

@@luckyguy600 Glad it works for you.
It's strong, trust me. Don't loose the two keys you get with it.
I like it/ hope I never have it tried out though.
And never forget to remain discrete, thieves also watch and read information on social medias. The least they are kept informed, the better !
Yes - I agree

Totally agree. If they want your car, then can jack it up and tow it away... nothing really stop them from doing it.
These guys are thieves just off the boat from India. Not brain scientists folks.

Nicely prepared video: good explanation of theft methods, and honest product review, Thank you
Thank you 🙏🙏

Great feedback.
Why not just open the hood and remove the fuel pump relay from the fuse box. Done! It’s a bit of extra work but the car is not going anywhere!
You just need to be careful when you do that everyday. The fuse could get loose overtime.
And this is plugin hybrid with ~70km range, fuel might not need at all if car left fully charged.
@@larsandersen9462 just take out another fuse 🤔
This is really a good idea!
Yup it is
Is the screw strong enough so that no one can just drill out the screw with a special type bit?
If someone wants to steal it and break it, they definitely can do it. They can also damage the OBD port if not drilled correctly as well. It's to prevent or delay them from accessing the port. So it's not like less than one minute the car is gone.
Only if he packs a lunch and stays there for a hell of a time!
I don’t think you are supposed to use your phone charger as a workbench for your projects. I only mention it because the green led it lit.
Green means it's on... when it charges it's orange
any luck finding more secure head pattern bolt?
Still searching plus, I will not advise publicly what bolt I am using.

This OBD protector is better if pattern is a concern.

Tri-wing screw used on Lockheed aircraft in the 70's
This screw can open littel flat screw driver.
You can change to a different screw
It is calledtorx or star tip
so easily removed?
That looks like a garbage product.
Someone's garbage is someone's treasure. The point is to get an OBD II port protector - you can get very nice protectors for sure.
