- Former President Donald Trump has announced Ohio Sen. JD Vance is his pick for vice president.
Trump's choice of running mate is an especially noteworthy moment in the campaign because it comes days after an assassination attempt at his rally in Pennsylvania.
Vice presidents are the next in line to replace the president should they become incapacitated or killed - a situation that has come up several times throughout America's history. They are also seen as likely successors.
Former Vice President Mike Pence had presidential aspirations after serving with Trump in his first term. But Pence fell short against Trump in the 2024 primary as the former president looked to win the party's nomination for a third time in a row.
But should he win in November, Trump will be going into his second and final term, opening the question of a future replacement as the party's figurehead. Many might turn to Vance as that figure, because of his age, background and closeness with Trump.

Very few politicians as a whole can articulate a meaningful sentence about politics. The Democratic Party has Pete Buttigieg and the Republican Party has JD Vance. That title goes to VP Charles Curtis who served as VP for Hubert Hoover from 29-33
Wikipedia isn't a reliable source, that's why. Read their entry on Trump. Whether you agree or not, it's heavily biased by saying "he falsely says" when it should say "his statements are false among certain groups."

Vance has came out and explained why he said what he said about Trump years ago. Most people don't admit their mistakes. Don't we accept ppl in our movement that changed their minds? Don't we preach unity?

I'm from Indiana and had a friend who worked for him when he was governor. JD is not Pence AT ALL.
JD is likely the most intelligent person on a presidential ticket in the past 50+ years. The guy is CRAZY intelligent, but admitted that he was wrong, and he said those things about Trump before seeing how he would govern. Trump changed his mind, and few politicians ever say that.
