I watched Hillbilly Elegy. Cried so many times. He has literally lived the life so many of us American have lived or are currently living. Definitely has my vote!
I read his book when it first came out. Then watched the movie. The man has had an amazing history. He brought himself up from abject poverty, raised by his memaw due to his single moms drug & alcohol abuses, ended up enlisting in the Marines, received a scholarship to Harvard, wrote a best selling autobiographical book which I read before he became well known, became a senator and now a vice presidential candidate with Trump. His wife, whom he met while at Harvard, is also an attorney and between them they have a fine family. It’s so refreshing to see this happening in the Republican Party. Now the Democrats really have a difficult job to nominate someone who isn’t Kamala. Biden won’t be the Presidential nominee. Yeah I voted Clinton in 2016. Voted Trump 2020 and will in November as well. I was humbled, but I am just happy he won in 2016 and move on. I learned a lot and that is what matters in the long run.

Watching the last 30 something years of US politics and the transformation of the Democrats to the party of the elite to the GOP becoming populist party was something I didn’t see coming at the end of the Cold War.
Vance is correct in his analysis that the US lost manufacturing jobs that gutted small towns: free trade (voted on by both parties). This led to drug addiction on opiates supplied by China (fentanyl), part of China's asymmetric war against the USA. Then endless foreign wars that enriched a few elites, robbed the taxpayers of billions, and cost American lives needlessly. I liked the line about stopping China from building its middle class on the backs of Americans. China obviously wants the Dems in power as it benefits the CCP. Dems and MSM are traitors in this and other ways. This cannot be stated strongly enough.

Read his book the first week it came out. Have read it 5x since. As a descendent of hillbillies, a fellow catholic convert, and a man of similar age as Vance, I can’t describe the happiness seeing him on this stage. Like many folks under 40 who are politically homeless, I’ve long wondered when is the GOP going to get away from the economics of Reagan and the libertarian-ness of the neo-cons? While it may not exactly happen with Trump, it is leaders like Vance and those of us who will follow that will remake the GOP into a National conservative populist party, taking the once rock solid maxim, “only the democrats are for the working man” and turning it on its head.

As a 17 year old kid, he sent 15 bucks to ActBlue, a dem fundraising organization. He didnt have much of a digital footprint and thus far largely remains a cypher. So I wouldn’t use “they” here. He acted alone, some young crazy dude who was bullied as a kid. That’s all we know.
