In the beginning, I thought this group I would hate watching but now I think they’re going to be one of the best and favorite reactors. With how they catch hints and create theories that we as fans probably made while watching AOT for the first time.
I like the change in your approach - during the first episode there was a lot of laughter, jokes, not paying attention, the approach was light and maybe even little ignorant. Now I see that you are drawn into the story, you are more focused when you watch, you care about the fate of the characters and ask questions. I am glad that you gave this show a chance! I hope you will enjoy it to the end! Have fun!
You guys have been getting a lot of criticisim but I just wanted to say I genuinely enjoy your reactions. The "anime hater" thing is used a lot as a click bait title, so it is cool to see a group of people react who have no experience or genuinely dont like/ see the appeal of anime. You get to witness how those feeling and opinions do or dont change over time.
I agree that this is quite a unique and refreshing take on reactions. Usually if there's a parent watching these things it's one or two parents with their kid guiding them. Here, we've got the Parent Council getting thrown into the deep end with their kid yelling "swim, MFS" from the sidelines lol. Regardless of my feelings when it comes to sub vs dub (...) it's quite interesting to see their perspectives change, not just with respect to this anime, but animation as a medium.
They were definitely having some harsh preconceived notions, in the first episode especially. I'd say AoT is worth it even if you generally (out of experience) don't like anime though. It's just a brilliant show, which you'll only really learn towards the end though when things come full circle.
From Carrie’s “get em” comment to Eren punching the titans to everyone cheering when the crew were able to resupply to Jill mentioning the episode title and the good ole to be continued anger most definitely indicates you all are INVESTED!!! I love it!!! Keep up the great reactions!!!
I am really loving these ! If you guys continue to the end, I will follow all the way through for sure ! Can’t wait to see their reactions to the many iconic moments that are coming.
Dear Tony... Eren was missing an arm and a leg.. :) he has them both now... his arm was bit off when the titan's mouth closed... the arm flew towards Armin when he screamed.. :)
i am 42 year old woman but i have started watching anime when i was 6... there are so many genre of anime and for many different age groups. AOT is a masterpiece but it is not the only one. Japan knows how important stories are psychologicaly and a lot of anime have life lessons included. they are not just entertainment. And there are so many original and different dimensions and worlds. I hope you will enjoy your journey into those worlds.
You guys will grow very fast being an older generation watching this anime being one of the best ever written ! If not the BEST your questions will always been answered down the line so don’t worry ! ❤
I appreciate their comments at the beginning that they have changed their respect towards anime and opinions on how they now view anime. As an older 33 year old woman it's nice to see other older folks enjoy and get invested into AOT. Also it'll be a nice for them to be invested into something that their children enjoy to and be able to share nice conversations about it with their kids. Also their reaction to the "to be continued" was brilliant 😂 Definitely be interesting to see their theory crafting in future episodes
Well yeah, to be fair, I think it all boils down to generational gap in regards to relating to a story/show/film. As the anime industry boomed by the last few decades of the 20th century, us youngsters are so used to a story-rich animation culture. You'd be surprised that so many animes out there are made and especially catered to adults instead of kids. So, in a way, for us, we can easily relate to anime/animation as we do to stories that came out of real historical events - even if it’s fantasy or sci-fi genre. Again, thank you for being honest and for reacting to one of my favourite series. I really hope that you'll enjoy the rest of the story, trust me it is all worth it! Every question will be answered and most of it in the least expected way! 😂
To the lady who said this would make a good movie. I can totally understand that thought process but I’ve come to realize that there are things that an animated medium can do that live action could never effectively reproduce, even with an unlimited budget. Animators are able to exercise a level of expressiveness and control over the image that is impossible to match with live staging and real actors. This may in fact be the superior form of storytelling, especially for a large scale epic such as this.
It's very nice to see how they have changed their opinion about the anime. You'll enjoy this one, it's really complex. Then you can watch "Death Note" xD
one thing to keep in mind, theres quite a few episodes of this show that had some high ratings, going head to head with shows like breaking bad or game of thrones
This show is complex. There's not a single scene or frame in this show that's put in for no reason. There will be a lot of confusion and questions, but believe me, they've thought of EVERYTHING in this show. There is not a single plot hole, despite how complex it is. Every question you can think of, there will be an answer.
i was waiting for this episode! great reaction again guys :) 0:50 i like your thoughts. sadly live actions (animated series turned into photography series/film) very rarely works. mostly because anime's usually have aspects in the show that don't really translate well to photography. For instance the actors could work really well, but it would be really hard to make titans or ODM gear in a real live show. If you are curious to how this would work there is a different anime called One Piece that has a live action of 8 episodes on Netflix. Most people loved the live action and it was trending in many countries when it came out but you can see very clearly it still has it problems translating some of the anime aspects to a real live show. 13:55 in episode 5 eren lost an arm too. first he lost his leg when he got bit by a titan. Afterwards when he saved Armin from Santa claus titan he got his arm bit off because he stretched it outside the titans mouth at the moment the titan bit down and swallowed the rest of Eren. So he's regained both limbs he's lost
I am glad you guys are getting into the story, asking questions and helping each other out. I love the little comments like "those are happy tears!" Hahaha. It's cute. Thanks for your reaction!
Eren lost his arm at the very last moment before he was swallowed. He was reaching out to Armin saying that they're going to explore the outside world. Before Armin could grab Eren, the titan bit down and Eren's arm went flying off.
Yea I think one or 2 of them misses it and says so and the others don't feel the need to correct them cuz they aren't 100% sure or something. But they are definitely trying to pay more and more attention as they get more into the show I think
Eren lost an arm last second, when the titan that ate him chomped down while he was holding his mouth open, if you rewatch episode 5, you can see his arm fly off when the titan bites down. I really wish their kids had suggested watching the English dub for various reasons: 1. The show is already super confusing, sub only adds another layer of confusion. 2. These are older ladies and gentlemen and new to anime. 3. Its nearly impossible to read the captions while catching all the scenes. 4. The English dub is not bad enough to warrant avoidance. 5. Hearing it in your native language makes it easier to understand the emotion. 6. (unrelated personal opinion) If you are having to read your tv show, then you might as well just read the manga/book To no fault of their own, I feel like a lot of emotional scenes are not conveyed due to the language barrier, so whoever suggested to a bunch of adults who don't watch anime to watch the most complex story driven narrative anime in Japanese, either didn't know any better or intentionally sabotaged their experience. I don't get to call the shots, but I think they would get more enjoyment out of the English version.
Eren's arm got bit off when he got swallowed. It flew straight towards Armin and the camera. Also, Eren's titan was regenerating. That's what the steam indicates on an alive titan. On dead titans or titan parts, including blood, the steam is them evaporating. Since we're here now, you should go back to the ODM gear training episode where he hit his head. Because right after in the scene of him having the bandage on and being distraught in the mess hall he actually emits steam from his head. Could easily be mistaken for a stylistic choice, but is actually a little hint that his head is healing. Weebs will hate me saying this, but anime & manga are just Japanese cartoon, if we want to go by the original definitions of the term of drawn or animated visual art. Anime can also be for kids and many of them are, though AoT is of course aimed towards mature audiences (although the manga is quite a bit more gory than the show). Same principle goes for western animations. Scavenger's Reign for example is a very good (and criminally underrated) western animated show, but absolutely not for kids. And of course there's also adult stuff for both (as in the sexy kind, called "hentai" in Japanese). There's also 3D animated media, such as Arcane, which is easily one of the best shows out there (though there's also a lot of hand drawn elements in it). By the way, are they watching the BD quality version (If there's still different ones)? I see a lot of still frames and I'd hate to see them miss the Annie scenes later.
“This would be an excellent movie” Funny you should say that… there was an AoT movie, but it was widely different and based solely on season 1. There is also an AoT musical with cast actors that heavily resemble their respective characters y’all can check out too, literally just came out a few days ago

"I am growing in respect for the show". Ha ha. It's obvious. But trust me it's just the 1st season objectively the worst season of attack on titan. The show goes to a whole new level in season 2. By season 3 it becomes one of the greatest anime ever made. By the end of the show it becomes the greatest piece of fiction humanity has ever witnessed. Too much? 😂
there are several AOT live action movies but almost all of them have bad ratings. not because they are badly made or not following the same story line. the thing about animations it allows so much freedom for visual effects and facial expressions and feelings of characters. so those things in live action movies either cost more to produce or do not have the same representation. to top it all AOT is an inter connected long story. just like GOT. if game of thrones made in to few sequels of movies it wouldn't make sense just like AOT. and making a perfect AOT movie franchise is a huge investment for any movie studio. i don't think any studio would take such a risk at the moment ,given most of them are pretty busy rehashing the same movies.
Not judging, but ya'll do not look like the type of people to watch anime! lol I mean that with respect, and I am overjoyed to see everyone start to dip their toes into it. Just, you may have to watch this one once more after the fact, if you ended up loving it, cuz the second time through is where you see "it" for the masterwork this story is.
I'm an older person, and how I introduce anime to people is using the English dubbing at first because sometimes people get intimated with subtitles or just have short attention spans. You know someone is slowly getting addicted to AOT when the "to be continued" starts to get them XD
facts ahahaha
“That was fast” “oh cliffhanger” ladies and gentlement, they’re hooked
Literally what I was thinking
Did... Did they just paused the episode to read the still frame? They are dangerously close to being hooked
