PSP Micro SD Card Adapters Are Way Worth It

- If you're going to load up your PSP with games, a PSP micro SD card adapter is way worthy of the investment. I put off getting one of these forever but now that I'm playing a lot more games from a memory stick rather than the UMD, I can't overstate how cost effective they are over a regular memory stick duo. Here's a short video showing it in action.

If you want to format the micro sd card on windows 10 but don't have the fat32 option, you can use the raspberry pi imager program to format to fat32. Select erase then select drive then press write and it will format the drive to fat32. I just used it to format a 128gb micro sd card.

That's definitely the way to go if someone wants to softmod their PSP! But you make a valid point: those adapters are really cheaply made (I'm now on my 3rd one) so yes manipulate with care! Can't wait to see your Steam Deck content as I like learning about new tech and who knows, maybe it could make me buy one lol! Great video and keep up the good work!

A little advice: First of all, whatever formatting tool you use, keep cluster size in mind. 32k is ideal for 32GB-64GB volumes, and 64k is recommended for 128GB on up.
Second, he wasn't kidding about slowdown if you put too many things in your game folder. The PSP's OS attempts to load details of everything in there at once. It's not what I'd call good programming on their part, so get a folder sorting plugin for your custom firmware solution. If you do that, you can keep things more manageable and store as much as you like, so long as it's sorted in folders.

Does 512gb work , sdhc says it's max for 64gb but I see people using 128gb

@@Way2go926 Use big storage if you can! Just be sure it's formatted correctly for the size with the cluster size I mentioned. It's a little tricky once you go above 32GB is all.

Thank you for posting the Amazon links. My 32GB Memory Stick got some parts of the plastic broken and the PSP sometimes does not recognized it. I spend like an hour browsing through both Amazon and Ebay, which are inundated by pure Chinese imitation crap.

I bought back in 2005 a 1GB for $89. Today, using multiple accounts, I was able to get multiple 32GB for free in Micro Center. I simply bought a $7 dual adaptor for the psp and was able to put 2x32GB micro in it bringing it up to 64GB. I immediately downloaded all demos and full games that I owned and those still didn't make up 10% of the storage.

hi, do i need to cfw my psp to make the adapter work? Or it just works with the regular firmware without flaasinh the firmware?
Not to my knowledge- I'm about 99% sure you don't need CFW already because every time my PSP has powered down and I need to re-run the patch to put back the CFW it's still able to read files from it :)

But somehow the psp gives me sn error message when i copied a psx game on it. Ive put the eboot into the games folder inside a dedicated under folder. But some copyright protection info is invalid message apears if i try to start the game. You know why?
Hmmm, could be that fw 6.51 from the UMD added protections? You might try soft-modding again with one meant for 6.51 using an alternate card and then try the adapter again with data on it to see if it can be read.

Yup, I think initially it needs to be fat-formatted but once you get it into your PSP you should be able to format like a normal card.
hey. is formatting micro sd (on pc) before putting the card in the psp necessary? you format it in psp anyway and i dont have a micro sd reader.

Hmm I thought the SD card limit for the PSP was set to 32GB? I even tried 2x32GB Micro SD cards in the past and was unsuccessful. Could you get me up to speed on how to get this set up? I got a Samsung 232gb micro sd card and went ahead and formated it on windows with the fat32 and it’s good to go, but when I inserted into the duo sd card into the psp it ends up saying “There is no Memory Stick inserted”

I have bught 1tb micro stick. I Get faild to format the micro stick on psp. 80220087. I have tryed to format it on pc to fat32 but it does not work
Yeah I THINK it might cap out at 256 or 512 but I never went for a super large capacity because it's so slow to load the listing of games in my experience. I DID get a 1TB for the Steam Deck recently, however.
@@YourPlayer2 just use the folders plugin and save 40-50 games on each folder, it won´t take to much load

As far as I know sdxc will work! Might have to do some research though just to be safe.

LoL good eye! I had a few of them loaded up and so far I've only spent a GOOD amount of time with Lacrimosa of Dana but hoping to dive in more fully someday. If for no other reason than the music ALONE is incredible in these games :)

Hello, I recently bought a psp and stumbled across this video. I have a few problems lmao. Firstly, I don't have enough storage for my psp and the iso files I have downloaded and was wondering if anyone had good suggestions for the storage card I should buy? Secondly, I don't have a way to connect a micro sd to my pc and was hoping there was a card with a good amount of storage that is already formatted to fat32? I have an adapter already, it is a SanDisk adapter however it is not a pro duel, anyone know if it would still work?
Personally I'd stick to reputable brands- as for how to format it ehhhh, you might have to borrow someone's machine!

I bought this and foramtted the micro sd and everything then i popped it into my psp there is orange light above the memory stick led but it says no memory stick inserted what should i do?
Hmm, you could try to enable USB mode on your PSP and see if it shows up on the computer to navigate? Try to format it once more?
@@YourPlayer2 USB mode needs an sd card unfortunately. I used more cards and formatted in every type. It just blinks orange and says no memory card inserted.

Edit: Update, I fixed it by updating the firmware to 6.61. I had version 3.something on there from 2007 😅

I think you'd have to connect your PSP to your PC and then put it into USB mode in the PSP's settings so it shows up as a drive on your computer :)
I formatted it to fat 32 but when i hook it up through usb it it shows as a "D drive" that i cant interact with
It sounds you like might be in USB mode- after it's formatted you should be able to re-format within the PSP settings to make it compatible with the device :)

@@YourPlayer2 Awesome! I bought one myself for a PSP 3000 and have been using it for a few days. The only drawback is the slight delay as the PSP reads the 128GB card when I turn it on or switch games. Other than that it works great. I also made sure I got a name brand SD card. I've had too many dodgy SD cards in the past that junk out after 10 gigs.

It's possible that it's faulty- Sometimes those adapters can bomb out. They're not crazy expensive or anything thankfully, but they're not exactly being manufactured by Sandisk ya know?

I believe so, but you might see some slowdown if you load it with TOO many games as you scroll through them in the interface

Oh, the way Windows treats FAT32 these days is actually hilarious. It really wants you to use its proprietary NTFS, so will not suggest FAT for any devices with capacities beyond 32 gigs.
