    I do NOT want to cast shade on any artist on earth. Just my opinion knowing the story why James wrote this and what it is about. I don't think I will ever be able to watch someone else cover this. Just would not be real to me. (great reaction)

    As someone that has lost their dad I can say that this is exactly how it is. I lost him in 2020 at the beginning of November (3 days after his 84th birthday) and James perfectly encapsulates what the feeling was like. Bit by bit as he got older our roles shifted and reversed. I became the one to comfort, the one to remember things, the one to help arrange his everyday life for him and the one to help him get around places. Especially the line "And while you're sleeping I'll try to make you proud, so daddy will you just close your eyes." fits my thoughts at the time when he was about to pass away perfectly. I went to visit him the day before and he wasn't conscious. He had suffered a significant infection in the weeks before and gotten so small and thin and looked to be struggling just to breathe. I couldn't bear watching him like that, my big strong dad that had been a pillar for me to lean on for my entire life so utterly undone by illness. I sat there for a long time, held his hand and told him that I loved him and that things were going to be ok. Then I left and early next day I got a call from the retirement home and they said he had passed around 11 PM the night before.
    Thanks for a great reaction Lucie :)

    Your comment about a "real man" was very healing for me. It took me many decades to be ok with showing my emotions to others. But, with songs like this one, how can a guy not spill tears? 😢Thank you, Lucie. This is my first reaction to you, and you now have another subscriber. 🖤🎹🎙

    Hi Lucie, His Dad had terminal kidney cancer and James blunts sister wrote a poem for her father and james took it and rearranged it into a song. His father ened up rebounding from the kidney cancer a relative donated a kidney and he still living today. They were both in the military together and officers . everytime I watch this my eyes leak like somebodies turning on a water faucet little by little uncontrollible. Anybody that can watch this without a tear has no heart or feelings IMO. Great reaction Lucie. I knew you had a heart thats why when it popped up james blunt monsters and you reacted I had to check it out. Another good one is Brad Paisleys song He didnt have to be. Its hits you in the heart beautiful. Thanks Lucie God Bless.

    They filmed this video in one take because it was too emotional and James couldn't do it again. I have watched this countless times and after the first note, still cry.

    That’s his real father in the video and yes, those are real tears. At the time he did this video his father was only had two months to live. His father was actually a kidney donor at one time and wound up with stage four kidney disease, James would not let them edit this video. It was one take !! After the video James made a plea to anyone with type o blood which is very rare if they would consider donating a kidney to his father because no one in his family was a match ! By the Grace of God someone donated and his father survived ! His father was sitting next to him throughout the whole video……

      @jennywren7822 ปีที่แล้ว +10

      @luciev_1
      The live donor was a cousin with the same name as his father, Charles Blount.
      James was a Captain in the British tank division and saw action in Kosovo, before begining his music career, his father a Colonel also in the British army, in the UK we have a saying "stiff upper lip" which means showing no emotion, in high ranking officers so this video really is extraordinary.
      All the emotion is real, James is very close to his father ❤

    The record company wanted James to use 'Auto-Tune' but he insisted against it because he wanted the recording (done in one take) to be completely raw and genuine because he thought his father was about to die if they couldn't find a donor. James donated all the proceeds from this remarkable video to the UK charity 'Help For Heroes' who do wonderful work for ex-servicemen and women. 🙋‍♂

    I totally agree with you that real men aren’t afraid to show their feelings and to be vulnerable. Also agree James Blunt must be a beautiful human being.

    • @robertobrien5709
      @robertobrien5709 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      There is nothing vulnerable about a man showing his feelings, that's the way the world wants us to think, its a real strength on the part of a real man has for those whom he truly loves and his dearest friends, not the pretence that we see that so many will portray in public(obviously I'm not talking about James, in this horrible world its a breath of fresh air to see someone who genuinely has that good of a relationship with his father, especially so as I was unable to have that myself) good comment though.

    Hello Lucie. I have NEVER seen you before. This song is a real tear-jerker. I still have NO idea how James got through this song while crying. He and his Dad were very close and both top-notch military guys, so for them to have this moment together was the ultimate experience I would think. I read in one comment that after the reactions to the video, his dad said something like" I don't know why everyone is so upset- I'm not dead yet." ! That tells you how strong his spirit is. I enjoyed your commentary. Nice job. ☺

    The song James wrote "Monsters" was a real situation inside his father body the "kidney",and you can see james in tears because he was going to loose his father and no doner was available.This song made it around the world and a doner came forward otherside of our world and it was a match.So james writing this song saved his fathers life.Had he not wrote that song then the situation mybe would have turned out different.

    You can see the struggle he went through. Understandable. Even more so when you realize that he sat next to his dad all the time. Never in a thousand years would I be able to gather the strength for something like that. At least I think that now. My dad is still here. Maybe when the time comes you think and feel different. Fist time I saw this video I cried my eyes out so hard that I wasn't able to see clearly for almost half an hour. But thanks to this song his dad could be safed by a donation from a distant relative. Last thing I heard is that his dad was alive and well.

    James dad was actually dying from kidney disease & this was his tribute & farewell to his dad. Thankfully his dad received a donor kidney & is doing okay now. If this song doesn't get to you emotionally, there is something wrong with you. This song resonates with me as I was my dad's caregiver for many years until he passed away 4 years ago.

    James and his father with him in the video both served in the British military, and the phrase in the song, I'm not your son, you're not my father, we're just two grown men saying goodbye, is how they used to say goodbye to one another when they were deployed somewhere. Apparently, the entire crew was in tears after this was done recording, it was done in one take, and James' dad asked why is everyone crying, I'm still here? He had donated a kidney earlier in life and the one remaining was failing at the time this video was shot, and a distant cousin saw the video, was tested, and he received a donated kidney and survived but the emotion from James was absolutely real here.

    love your opinion of what a real man is. It's so much easier to be all stoic and hard than it is to actually feel your emotional pain. I know, I've had plenty. He's very brave to show this kind of vulnerability to the world. But I'm so glad he has because it's enabled me to cry for the love ones I've lost, including my dad. I've seen this video a hundred times and I cry every single time. And I believe that's a good thing

    I'm a 65 year old Australian father of 3 daughters & the first time I heard this song, I started balling & sobbing. My wife came in to see what I was carrying on about & when I played it for her, she started. Haha. As a human being, I don't think you can not be emotionally effected by this song.
