I don't quite understand your beginning statement saying most professionals are lying to themselves about being character designers... If its apparently about the difference between avatars and characters, I think everyone can easily make that distinction...

I HATE when ppl start presentations with discouraging statements… saying that the students are lying to themselves and the professionals are living a lie… the ppl are there to learn and be built up, not torn down and discouraged

lol he lost me on that too...A person can see themselves as any of those characters he had on the left. not through appearance of course but as a a “character”.

I NEVER got the fascination - but using my IMAGINATION, I just play along.
THAT’S what imaginations are for! 😩🤷🏾😝
To me, it sounded like he was saying something more along the lines of “self insert as,” rather than “identify with/as.” Someone might see some of themselves in a character like Naruto in the sense that they relate to his feelings of loneliness, but he’s a character in the sense that he has his own life, thoughts, experiences, and opinions that you wouldn’t have. You can identify with him, but you can’t really self-insert as him. On the other hand, I think he’s pointing towards the knight as a vessel for you to move from point to point in the game. The knight doesn’t express fleshed out thoughts or opinions and doesn’t have a real backstory. It sounds to me like he’s talking about a character you build at the start of the game who only nods or remains silent when spoken to. You don’t relate *to* the knight. You’re supposed to insert yourself *as* the knight when playing.
If he meant what you’re saying…idk what he’s on n I fully disagree with him🗿
