95 Olds Aurora/Buick Riviera were the start of this platform. G body is the platform name, it was used on the 98 Cadillac STS/DTS, 2000 Bonneville, 2000 LaSabre/Park Avenue Lucerne. The Impala was still using the W body from the old 1st gen Lumina, just heavily revised, Grand Prix, Buick Century/Regal, Oldsmobile Intrigue also.
I do a lot of traveling for work. I’ve got a 2007 Buick Lucerne CXL that I use for those long road trips. It’s a really nice ride. Very comfortable and smooth.
I've got a 2011 that I've done some updates to. To start with, the stereo has been seriously updated with an Android Auto headunit, upgraded speakers throughout, two amps and a single Kicker 12" sub. I run drilled and slotted rotors with heavy duty pads, slotted rear rotors with PowerStop pads. It's got KYB GR2 struts and shocks, and then the biggest upgrade of all was the tires. I have Contintental Extreme Contact DWS 06 Plus tires on this thing, and it made a massive difference in ride and handling. This car (CX 3.9) is underpowered, but I've got plans for that. It's capable (on ethanol free gas) of touching 30mpg on the highway. With E10/15 in it, it's down around 26mpg. Overall, it's just peppy enough to have a little fun with the ride compliant enough to soak up the highway miles. It's just fun enough to drive somewhat sprited and not be completely boring. I wish it had the six speed automatic in it, or the 300HP 3.6 V6...or a nice combination of that. I just got done with the fuel pump and underseat fuse box with that problem that they have. First REAL problem it's had. It's got 121,000 miles on it.
I have 2018 to 2024 BMW and Lexus and sport riding vehicles is all media programming, we dont drive on race tracks we drive on shit roads full of pot holes and congested traffic. What is needed on rough roads is a floaty ride not a stiff suspension.
Amen! I feel every d*mn crack in the road in my bones and teeth. Why? There is no need. And I'm not taking 45 degree turns at 60mph. So if the car sways or roll around the cones in those test runs, that's fine!
"This thing floats!" = music to my ears! I hate the current obsession with tight suspension. Not every car needs to feel like a truck that rattles my teeth out of their sockets when hitting American roads. Roads in the Midwest are flat and smooth for the 1st year after re-paving. 19 years of holes and cracks to drive on until the next paving.
Not a reskinned impala , its on a Cadillac DTS platform, I believe the impala is a few inches shorter , not as wide, and a little lighter.
Yup, it's DTS platform. GM part sharing for sure. This tranny was used all over GM before the Ford-GM joint transmission thing.

You have the bullet proof 3.8L V6 which was replaced by a horrible 3.6 disaster or if lucky the 3.9 which was OK.

floaty is a clear sign it needs shocks and struts. They are not BMW tight but they do ride quite nice.

I'd rather make a three point turn in an American sedan than a short U-turn in foreign junk. And, yes, I now have my third Lucerne.
These Buick Lucerne's without the 4.6 L Northstar V8 engine are excellent vehicles to operate when you drive.
Are they reliable? I’m looking at one with 84k on it for $8,500

2008 was the last year the bulket proof 3.8 V6 was made, the 3.6 replacement was riddled with issues.
