Hi Jennifer, This video is very useful! Many words are actually the combinations of other words, like breakfast, butterflies, Liverpool, and so on. I am making a list about those combination words. Could U please suggest few more to me? Thank you so much! Patrick
Hi Patrick. You can do a search for "compound words" and "compound nouns." There are many. I actually have a short video on compound nouns. It's my member-only playlist. th-cam.com/video/mO_aQUc5afo/w-d-xo.html
hi madam i am really very happy to your all those videos and way you speak it good to understand i am from India and where did from do you know every i am watching your videos also how to read and writing thank you . may peace with you.

Many thanks for your useful vid, hope to see more vids abt email in English. Btw, could u pls tell me the difference between "attached" and "enclosed"? Cz my colleague always uses "enclosed" in her emails.
Hello. Thanks for watching. The full playlist on email is here. www.englishwithjennifer.com/students/yt-videos/ Both "attached" and "enclosed" are used, but technically "enclosed" was used when we still sent physical letters and we enclosed additional documents in the envelope. In email today, we press a button to attach files to our message, so "attachment" and "attached" are usually preferred. See examples with "enclose." www.learnersdictionary.com/definition/enclose
@JenniferESL yes it helps. But sorry I am very poor in english. I need to send the attachments via mail but the attachments exceed the limit so I has to send the attachments set by set

Good advice, Jennifer. When I write 'Please find attached CV' on Hotmail and I don't attach it, Microsoft tells me I haven't attached anything. It's quite clever and helpful of them. Some email providers don't spot our mistake though. Your email series is very good. Just a quick question on my favorite subjects: prepositions and adverbs. Am I correct in saying this in my lessons: "I am moving towards the trees." - "Towards" is an adverb of place as it is modifying the verb "moving?" If I say "The trees are towards the house" then "towards" is a preposition as you can't modify the to be verbs (am are is was were)?
Hi there! Yes, email providers are generally good about giving reminders these days. :) Good point. In your first sentence, I see "towards the trees" as prepositional phrase acting as an adverb. It modifies "am moving." In your second sentence, I see "towards the house" as a prepositional phrase acting as an adjective. An adjective can be a subject complement, right? So that phrase describes "the trees." By the way, you might like this new community I joined: Simor. You can post as a teacher or a learner. It's free. Here are the steps: 1. Go to www.simor.org. Sign up. 2. Then go to English room. www.simor.org/room/English OR Use the direct link to find me.www.simor.org/user/1749/jennifer_lebedev/#/networks 3. Then you can choose to follow me. Take care!
JenniferESL Thanks for that, Jennifer. There is also a bit of confusion with the word "towards" as I hear others maintain it's toward" and not "towards." Prepositions can be tricky for students as they are confused with adverbs and are also teamed up with verbs in phrasal verbs. Yes, we know the golden rule about a preposition taking on a subject and connecting nouns, but that doesn't answer everything. I certainly think an "Is it a preposition or is it an adverb" would be a good English learning series. It would have to be a full series though, as this subject couldn't be explained in a one-off lesson. Thanks for the links. I'll certainly check them out. Ray
I can imagine a TV game show - "Name the Grammar!" Can you see it with lights, music, and prizes? :) Of course, only grammar nuts like you and me would want to be contestants!
JenniferESL I love that idea. It would work really well on You Tube. Maybe a Name The Verb Tense to get us up and running. I made an All The Verb Tenses in Five Minutes video, but have to admit that unless people already had a very good idea of them, the video would have been the definition of confusion. It's a pity people run for cover when participles and present perfect get mentioned. A fun game show might make that subject more interesting and less baffling. . .
Different things excite people. Most people, though, don't clap with excitement over reducing clauses and fixing comma splices. :) I personally like talking about participles.

Amazing ! i have an urgent question, please. what kind of T is there in "disappointing" or "documenting" is it a stop T cuz it's followed by N or silent T cuz it's preceded by N like 'center'? which one is dominant?
Hi. In American English you can use a true T, but many would make it silent, especially in conversation. That is, they'd drop it. The Longman Dictionary of American English confirms this practice for "documentary" and "disappointment."
+JenniferESL but i notice that in "exciting" Most of u pronounce it "d" but u said before it the T is followed by a schwa and N must be stop T ,so is it "exciding" or "exci'ing"? thanks
The glottal stop is often used when T comes before a pause (at end of sentence, for example) or unstressed schwa + N: righT, caT, senTENce, cotTON, cerTAIN. In "exciting" the T is before a short i and NG: /ɪkˈsaɪ tɪŋ/. So that T is often a flap T because it's before an unstressed vowel.
Americans would usually use a flap T in "competent." Like "exciting" the T is after a vowel and before an unstressed vowel. It helps to see patterns. For example these words can have flap T: (1) city, kitty, potty, Patty, witty, pretty; (2) exciting, writing, delighting, lighting, creating, dating, pouting; (3) competent, inhabitant.
