My art was in the vine source level and I'm not sure if I should be happy or mad that he didn't credit me
In my own experience, it's one of those mixed emotional things where I think "Someone thought my art was cool enough to use..." followed by "...but not cool enough to give me credit?". That sucks man that your art got used without credit, though you did a good job; I am assuming it was one/both of the portraits in the Vinesource house or?

Lots of guys that don't give credit usually just forgot to do so, or didn't think about it or how to find the artist. Just asking him might be enough for him to put a little text in there that says "this great art made by Xander!"

So sorry to the person who made the first map. But to be perfectly honest, it's not very good.
Fuck. I missed it. That first map is mine, by the way. I know it sucks, but whatever. And yes, it is my very first map. I made it in GZDoom Builder.
It's definitely not the worst level, but I think a little bit more texture variety and ammo would help. That being said, I still liked it quite a bit. Good job!
RustyLasagna The map wasn't really intended to be "kill everything before proceeding". That's why there's not much ammo. In fact, I didn't even try 100%ing it because I was lazy. I know what I did wrong, now that I've gotten better at mapping, and I'll probably make a new map next year. Maybe.

Well, thanks for taking the time to create something to entertain us viewers - might not be the best, but we all start somewhere.
I don't know why but there's something really nice about seeing Joel get so giddy about these maps.
"Is this taking place in Sewden?" Well, you're killing brown demons that want to blow you up, so, yes. That's very accurate actually. 1:29:30
And here begins Joel's complaints about Doom 1, Episode 4. Because "How can there be TWO of the same demon? It doesn't make sense." Or, to put it in more relatable terms, "What do you mean a force capable of performing an invasion on this grand scale has more than one tactician? That's unpossible to think there's more than one demon giving orders."
My favorite part of this was when Joels Funky Kong ASMR voice slowly but surely devolved into Han Solo grunts.
Something in my mind just gets caught up on it.

It's such an awesome inspiration to play this video in the background while you're making a map yourself, playtesting it or playing someone else's WAD, which you totally do only in order to get inspiration for your own WAD and you therefore consider to actually be part of your productive work.
I have to say, I really love your appreciation of vanilla Doom- no antialiased rendering, no jump or mouselook, no BS.

Yknow Joels complaint about Doom 2016 comes off as a little nonsensical but why would you not want to fight demons lol, anyway the style new updated style of the game fits the music theming I feel, with time comes change and I feel the music is good for the game aesthetically and speaking as a metal head myself that says a lot

Hell in Doom 2016 was deffiantly not as good as classic doom, the twisting halls, the red bricks, the tentacles. My favorite levels of classic doom are the hell levels, They had such an original, and comically grimness to them.
I'm happy you did this. Doom is my fav game of all time and seeing this contest shows me that the community is alive.
An awful lot of midi music I am recognizing as... Not midi. Especially Steep Town's song, I was too busy thinking of Guilty Gear instead of Doom.
Is there any way of recreating the "dehacked" functionality where people would change the actual executable to put new commands into the game? Some WADS that used to work now no longer do. I remember extracting all the sounds from the Simpsons Doom WAD and putting them on Windows. It was the only time my mum asked me to play a game of Doom to show someone the Simpsons doom.
Joel and the Vinesauce crew should make a doom level creating contest where they make the levels, instead of the fans

i think my wad was disqualified because i put flintstones in the midi... damn you past jimmy... why didnt you just try and make your own melody for that section you couldnt figure out how to remake in midi.......

God I really hope the new Doom ups their game with the Snap Map feature. I love the idea, bringing custom Doom maps to the newer Dooms, as well as consoles. It's great... But the actual Snap Map feature sucks. It's functional at best. But the fact that you can't just draw out your rooms properly is a load of ass. You either HAVE to use a preset, or use a giant ass empty cube. Keeping in mind, you can't change the textures on existing walls and floors. So you have to either leave it default, which looks stupid, or you have to hand plays individual walls over the top over the existing walls. And wall pieces won't snap to each other, so you have to eye that shit when connecting sections together (because of course, there's a size limit to how big a wall of floor piece can be). On top of that, the textures on the custom walls don't line up with the textures on the pre-made rooms, so you can't just add on a small section of wall without it looking off and misaligned.
Item placement is fine, enemy placement is fine, decoration placement is ok, decal placement could be better. But the fact that you can't draw out your own walls and stuff, along with the hand-placed walls not snapping to each other, is just such a pain in the ass. I tried to make my own level just out of curiosity's sake a couple days ago, and it was such an annoying pain in my ass, I quit half way through. I had 2 custom rooms, but with nothing snapping to each other, I kept having to zoom all the way into corners of walls to try and wiggle them around until they lined up. And there's no click and drag feature to change the size of walls, you have to open of a menu and slide numbers back and forth.
I'm really hoping the new Doom fixes it. At this point in Doom's lifespan, they should just be copying the PC Doom level maker. They also really need to add more "classic" stuff. If they're gonna go through the trouble of adding classic textures for walls and floors, as well as a handful of classic decorations, they really need to add an option to use the classic guns (and gun 'model'), along with classic enemies.
