That’s interesting. We haven’t gone refillable because we like the packable size of the 1lb bottles…but getting a few refillable that are that size is super interesting. Thanks for sharing, I’m going to go check that out!
My Jetboil Genesis just arrived today. I also ordered the durn DeWalt box and the deep drawer you showed thank you very much lol. I had no idea those even existed and might get another box for my power tools. The box and drawer should allow me to get rid of the Home Depot tote I use as my kitchen that is half empty. I'm excited to put it all to use!

Cost is $279.95. I have one and it works perfect. I like it and have no issues so far. The dials work just fine and all a person has to do is look at the flame like any gas stove to adjust the heat. It is compact and easy to use.
Great review of both likes and gripes. I agree with all of them. Most positive are the compactness, carry bag, the precise flame adjustment, and the two burner distancing.. On the negative, the windscreen seems worthless. As you pointed out, this requires some external wind protection. Thank you for this useful review.
We have the half gen. It's great. For multi day backpack trips it makes dinner just that much better, and a nice luxury. 4lbs with the propane tank and skillet. Great video and review.

GREAT review. This is the one for me. The others don NOT have a good regulator for the flame. You are so right, its either on or off. Can't simmer or cook slow with the others.

Partner Steel is a great company (based in Idaho!). They have a double burner fold out design that looks like it would give similar benefits. It's pricey though..but their quality is well known. Really appreciate you taking the time to watch and share your perspective..and glad you brought up Partner!

I love my Jetboil Basecamp. I lived in St. Thomas, VI, and pre and post-Irmaria hurricanes, the power just constantly goes out, especially about two minutes after I started cooking something. Didn't bat an eye. Just walked outside and finished cooking. :-) and, yeah, windscreen's a bit useless.
My wife and I love your vids. We have a Cook Partner stove in our off road camper and it can do everything from rice to steaks with no issue. We are building out our truck with topper now and looking to get a dedicated stove for it. I re-watched this vid and definitely contemplating a Jetboil Genesis based on this review alone but have to ask if you have any experience with the Cook Partner stove? If yes, any comparisons you can share would appreciated. Thanks
I have toured partner steel in Pocatello Idaho where they make those, and think they are fantastic. I haven’t tested them against each other…both are great options I think. Jetboil might save you a bit of space. Partner is really well made, just a more basic user design. If I were to do it again, I’d give Partner a long look because they are a local company.

Nicely done on this review. I have the Jetboil Genesis. The feature I like the most is how adjustable the flame is. I haven't owned a stove that allows a lower flame setting. Cheers!

Thanks Chance. We bit the bullet two years ago - and have put it to heavy use since then. The good news is, it's holding up really well (I didn't mention that in the vid)...so at least there's value in the design/build. Honestly though, it's not for everyone, but it works really well for us.

Awesome! We still really love this stove, and it continues to hold up well. We use UCCO sporks for non-metal utensils, (amzn.to/3FX8oZ) we also use an MSR serving spoon (amzn.to/3Dfi2EV). Those are REALLY nice stoves!…but I have a really hard time with the price. That being said, we’ve had to throw pans away from becoming scorched…and a couple of beautiful mornings at camp have been impacted by burnt pancakes. Maybe I’ll just borrow yours!
Thank you for this! I was literally JUST looking at this stove. Gave me lots to think about. It is spendy. Right now we are using a good old Coleman $25 two burner stove. Its great, but was looking for something more compact. Maybe we will just keep using it for a while. We also have a Tembo Tusk skottle and I don't love it as much. At least for the meals we cook.. which is a bummer because that is also very expensive.
Thank you so much for watching! There is a Coleman clamshell that is less expensive…I haven’t gone for the skittle yet, because it might get complicated to cook some of our regular soups/stews. At least with the Jetboil it’s a quality product, but the price stings..a lot.

I take the windscreen only because it fits in the carrying case, but I’ve never really used it. Depending on inventory, I’ve seen the price over $500, which is total insanity if you ask me. It’s still a work horse for us though..use it every time we go out. Thanks for leaving this great comment!

Great video :) .. can you tell me about the cast iron grill that you are using please ? ... also, as a suggestion, would be good to do a comparison to understand how long a propane bottle lasts across different grills (including the Jetboil).
Yeah, I struggle with that price! I've been doing more propane fire pit/cooking grate over it to cook a pan (one pot meal style) or my good old Kmart Northwest Territory camp stove when necessary. I just can't swallow that $300 price, but I'm also only getting out there on the occasional weekend. Used to cook over a wood fire, but with all the wildfire hazard & closure's, I've just permanently switch to propane fires.
I'm not sure there's a substitute for cooking a steak on a grill over a fire! We JUST donated our old Fred Meyer $25 stove, I kept thinking I'd use it again...but finally realized it was doing me no good in my garage and someone else might be able to use it as an entry point to getting outdoors. I don't think this stove is for everyone..it's a great stove, but depending on your specific situation, you can have great meals with something a lot less expensive. Really great to hear your alternative approach!
I was about to purchase one, but there are too many poor reviews about faulty fuel regulators failing after only a few uses. JetBoil wants the entire stove back to inspect it, so don't give up that old Coleman just yet. The piece which is failing is the piece that connects the propane tank to the stove. Also, can't swap it out with a cheap Coleman fuel regulator.

I have seen these reviews also. I have not had issues with mine but I bought this and have the original one as a backup - stansport.com/30-propane-hose-regulator-189/ I think it is better than the one that comes with the stove because you can set your propane tank in more places when cooking on uneven surfaces. (I have only used mine in the BWCA)
Hey. Thanks for the great review! I'm always looking to scale down my gear as much as possible and get as much permanent gear as possible in my drawers. (My rig is an overland equipped 4Runner with Front Runner drawers). Right now I have a 4-5 + yr old Camp Chef Everest stove that's a kinda big, rectangular form factor... Two questions. 1. This seems like it packs up much smaller and is less cumbersome than the camp chef. Do you agree? 2. Wondering if your Genesis is has had any quality issues, or parts breaking, etc. From your review it doesn't seem like it. but, with how it folds and clamps together, it seems there could be some rubbing or wear in the pivot points. You're right, it's a lot to spend, so I want to make sure it will last for 8-10 years. Oh, 3. Curious if you've had any experience with Jet Boil customer service and if replacement parts are available if needed. Sorry 4. Ha. Does it rattle at all when bumping around on dirt roads. My camp chef is super tinny and rattles and clangs when offroading. Thanks!
Really great questions. 1. Yes I'd say it packs down smaller...we like that we can pack it inside a box/drawer, whereas with our other stoves we could not. 2. No quality issues yet, and we're relatively heavy users...the parts seem to be pretty solid. No hinge fatigue or even loose screws/bolts to speak of yet. 3. No experience with Jetboil...although we did get a Flash systsem...and the igniter doesn't work...so I'll be testing out their customer service soon. 4. If it rattles we don't hear it. We have it inside it's case, which is inside a box in the back of our rig..so if it's rattling back there it's just not loud enough for us to notice. I do think it would likely make some noise if it were out loose while driving on a washboard. 5. THANK YOU for taking the time to watch and comment - we really appreciate it!!!
Great review! One question, does this take up less space packed away leaving more room in your bin for other items? Or does it take up the same amount of space just in a different shape (compared to a traditional 2 burner camp stove)? We’ve upgraded to partner steel from our Coleman but the parter steel takes up a very large part of my drawer.
Thanks Josh! For the size you get when it's unfolded, it takes up less space. To compare to your Partner Steel, which is a fantastic company and stove, it offers a very similar, if not bigger cooking area because it's not constrained by a wind-screen...and there's also not a huge grill on top of it because the two burners/grills are independent. This is what I think makes it a good investment (because it cooks as well as the partner). If I compare it to our old stoves, it's probably a wash space wise (flat/long vs. fat/short), but the actual cook surface it waaaaay bigger when set up.
Great review, super handy thanks! We're considering this stove but I'm confused about gas milage. We're used to a cheapy 3 burner with a 4kg LPG tank (Australia) but these all seem to just run the puny 450g propane tanks. If you're off camping for a week cooking well for 2 people and boiling water for showers as well, how long does one of those tanks last? Cheers!
Hard to say because everyone uses them differently…but they are pretty efficient. One canister generally lasts us 6-10 meals. On a week long trip I might use two canisters. You can get an attachment hose for larger propane tanks too.

I’ve had mine for many years and worked well for many years but regulator died which is a common problem and now the 2nd burner catches on fire if I try to use it which has rendered it useless. Great burner but maybe not the longevity you would expect for an expensive stove and you probably want to get a spare regulator preferably from another company
Great video Will, have you used it a lot in a chain with other stoves? I know Eureka makes ones that will hook I'm combination and I'm wondering how well they would perform together? I don't really like cooking but I usually get talked into it by the group so I cook for several people at once. Any insight would be greatly appreciated!! Thank you
I’ve never chained it with other burners, so sadly I can’t offer any insight there. You might ask Brad/Regina from @Trailrecon or Casey from @casey250 as they both use this stove as well. Another idea would be to pose the question on TrailRecon’s Facebook group, newbie Overlanders FB group, or even the Overlanding USA group. I bet you’d find someone who could give you insights there.

The price is the only thing that has kept me from getting one. I'm not saying I won't get one but definitely way down on the list of things to get for me, I'll stick to my Coleman.
Good review. I liked seeing how the large skillet fit on there. We have the uncentered issue with our cast iron on our camp stove. Definitely an expensive stove. I kinda want one but just haven't been able to make myself pull the trigger on it because of the price. I really like the ability to connect a 3rd burner. That would become the coffee/hot water burner. I suspect I'll end up with it eventually. 🤷♂️🤠
We did get ours on sale, which helped a little. We are loving the cast iron grill/griddle because there's still plenty of room to have a full sized pot. On the 3rd burner. We considered it..but just wound up buying a Jetboil Flash. Takes up less room, boils SUPER fast for coffee, and we don't need to get whole stove out in the morning to make coffee.
Get the Naturehike double burner. I got one for $62 it's compact and does a great job for so much less money. I saw ebikecnx7239 video then got one too. Very happy with it.
So far we've not had any issues at all, including the regulators. We've used it steadily over the last 18 months or so in each season at different elevations and, so far at least, nothing has broken. Maybe on this next trip it will go kaput lol...but so far so good.
Hey brother, do you still find this as a favorite or have you moved on? I ask because i just bought a Everest 2X whoch i plan on keeping for normal camp weekends at one spot because i like that its huge and double the burner power while habing great simmer control. I am thinking of this for the overland type trips where space and quick set up is critical.
Yep - I still use it and love it. It's been solid. I think I cleaned it once..but other than that, I haven't touched it in terms of maintenance and it works every time. I still hate the wind screen..but I just never use it.
When Coleman hits the market @ $65 for their 'fold-n-go' I agree... way too much $$ for what it is. I saw it as low as $209 today, but not someone I would buy from...
IMO - The fold and go is not the same as the Jetboil...BUT is the Jetboil worth 4X the $$$? Probably not, but at least it's a really good stove. Mine is still going strong.

@@Venture2Roam i precooked bacon, premade the pancakes in a plastic bottle, and a few easy to reheat meals, took it on a 5 day music festival and i ate mushrooms for those 5 days and nothing i cooked took longer than 10 mins. used the Cuisinart petite grill and nothing i cooked took less than 20 mins and i sold the grill once i tested jetboil.
My $40 simple green Coleman 2 burner stove from Walmart has been absolutely fantastic for me for over 5 years. Out of the box the flame control sucks but it's an easy fix to lube up the rubber o-rings and you get all the fine control you will ever need to cook the most gourmet dinner you want. ... and ummmmm... IT WAS $40!!!!!!!!
I've owned some Jetboil backpacking stoves. Those were good. This overland thing is pricey though. Johnson also sells those cool Eureka Spark+ stoves that run on butane. I'm not paying $200+ when I can buy a Blackstone for half that and have far more fun..
I want an extension hose for this. The one I bought from Amazon burnt out the brass regulator. Are there any other hoses that replace the brass regulator?
I saw this in another video, a collaboration with other overlanders and their favorite kitchen items.. I love the way this looks, but the price tag? No.
Ooohhhh. Now I understand. No. We opted to only get the stove because we have a very specific cooking set up and did not want the extra bulk that the stock pot and pan created. We did have a Jetboil fry pan for a bit, and it was OK, but we prefer GSI and MSR for higher quality cookware that packs down smaller.
Price is relative..and I think what makes it feel expensive is that most other stoves are much less expensive. For us, the price was worth it because the value is really high. Thank you for taking the time to watch and comment!

Hi Ken. Nope. We bought this stove with our own dough and created the review because we'd used it for a while and could speak to it honestly. They did comment on the video, but nothing else. I really appreciate the question as I think it's always fair to ask that of creators in this space, and we should be honest about it.
So far I’m giving the stove is zero it will not lite out of the box I’ve done everything it says and I can’t detect any gas flow whatsoever I adjusted the control knob back-and-forth several times and nothing have any ideas.
That’s strange. I know on mine it takes a few turns of the knob to get enough gas flow to start…but if you’re not getting any gas coming through, I’d think about returning it for another one.

I’ve owned three of these piece of junk after the third or fourth time cooking on them. They stopped working. Don’t get ripped off stay away from this correct there’s a serious problem with these the regulator stops the propane for the money you pay for this. It’s a joke garbage

Yep 12.5". We use it all the time and love it. We just throw it in a canvas bag and pop it in the back of the Jeep.

There’s no getting around the expense of it…it’s pricey. We’ve been really happy with how it cooks at camp though. Let us know what you decide to do!!

Those are REALLY nice stoves!…but I have a really hard time with the price. That being said, we’ve had to throw pans away from becoming scorched…and a couple of beautiful mornings at camp have been impacted by burnt pancakes. Maybe I’ll just borrow yours!

Thank you for this! I was literally JUST looking at this stove. Gave me lots to think about. It is spendy. Right now we are using a good old Coleman $25 two burner stove. Its great, but was looking for something more compact. Maybe we will just keep using it for a while. We also have a Tembo Tusk skottle and I don't love it as much. At least for the meals we cook.. which is a bummer because that is also very expensive.
Thank you so much for watching! There is a Coleman clamshell that is less expensive…I haven’t gone for the skittle yet, because it might get complicated to cook some of our regular soups/stews. At least with the Jetboil it’s a quality product, but the price stings..a lot.
Great review Price is yikes!, even on sale, wind screen will probably be left behind. However, Great stove, easy to use, to start, simmer etc! Glad I bought it
I take the windscreen only because it fits in the carrying case, but I’ve never really used it. Depending on inventory, I’ve seen the price over $500, which is total insanity if you ask me. It’s still a work horse for us though..use it every time we go out. Thanks for leaving this great comment!
I have a one burner that mounts right on a propane cylinder, works great, have had it for 30 years, paid $20 for it.

Yeah, I struggle with that price! I've been doing more propane fire pit/cooking grate over it to cook a pan (one pot meal style) or my good old Kmart Northwest Territory camp stove when necessary. I just can't swallow that $300 price, but I'm also only getting out there on the occasional weekend. Used to cook over a wood fire, but with all the wildfire hazard & closure's, I've just permanently switch to propane fires.
I'm not sure there's a substitute for cooking a steak on a grill over a fire! We JUST donated our old Fred Meyer $25 stove, I kept thinking I'd use it again...but finally realized it was doing me no good in my garage and someone else might be able to use it as an entry point to getting outdoors. I don't think this stove is for everyone..it's a great stove, but depending on your specific situation, you can have great meals with something a lot less expensive. Really great to hear your alternative approach!
Maybe wait until they have a sale. I did that and got 20% off my Genesis basecamp, 1.5L pot and utensils.
I was about to purchase one, but there are too many poor reviews about faulty fuel regulators failing after only a few uses. JetBoil wants the entire stove back to inspect it, so don't give up that old Coleman just yet. The piece which is failing is the piece that connects the propane tank to the stove. Also, can't swap it out with a cheap Coleman fuel regulator.

I think it is better than the one that comes with the stove because you can set your propane tank in more places when cooking on uneven surfaces. (I have only used mine in the BWCA)

Hey. Thanks for the great review! I'm always looking to scale down my gear as much as possible and get as much permanent gear as possible in my drawers. (My rig is an overland equipped 4Runner with Front Runner drawers). Right now I have a 4-5 + yr old Camp Chef Everest stove that's a kinda big, rectangular form factor... Two questions. 1. This seems like it packs up much smaller and is less cumbersome than the camp chef. Do you agree? 2. Wondering if your Genesis is has had any quality issues, or parts breaking, etc. From your review it doesn't seem like it. but, with how it folds and clamps together, it seems there could be some rubbing or wear in the pivot points. You're right, it's a lot to spend, so I want to make sure it will last for 8-10 years. Oh, 3. Curious if you've had any experience with Jet Boil customer service and if replacement parts are available if needed. Sorry 4. Ha. Does it rattle at all when bumping around on dirt roads. My camp chef is super tinny and rattles and clangs when offroading. Thanks!
Really great questions. 1. Yes I'd say it packs down smaller...we like that we can pack it inside a box/drawer, whereas with our other stoves we could not. 2. No quality issues yet, and we're relatively heavy users...the parts seem to be pretty solid. No hinge fatigue or even loose screws/bolts to speak of yet. 3. No experience with Jetboil...although we did get a Flash systsem...and the igniter doesn't work...so I'll be testing out their customer service soon. 4. If it rattles we don't hear it. We have it inside it's case, which is inside a box in the back of our rig..so if it's rattling back there it's just not loud enough for us to notice. I do think it would likely make some noise if it were out loose while driving on a washboard. 5. THANK YOU for taking the time to watch and comment - we really appreciate it!!!

Two questions - can you hook this stove up to a large propane tank? And how do the BTU's compare to other two-burner stoves?
You can get a large tank hose/attachment. The BTUs vary a lot between stoves...but this one burns very hot if you want it to.
Great review! One question, does this take up less space packed away leaving more room in your bin for other items? Or does it take up the same amount of space just in a different shape (compared to a traditional 2 burner camp stove)? We’ve upgraded to partner steel from our Coleman but the parter steel takes up a very large part of my drawer.
Thanks Josh! For the size you get when it's unfolded, it takes up less space. To compare to your Partner Steel, which is a fantastic company and stove, it offers a very similar, if not bigger cooking area because it's not constrained by a wind-screen...and there's also not a huge grill on top of it because the two burners/grills are independent. This is what I think makes it a good investment (because it cooks as well as the partner). If I compare it to our old stoves, it's probably a wash space wise (flat/long vs. fat/short), but the actual cook surface it waaaaay bigger when set up.
Great review, super handy thanks! We're considering this stove but I'm confused about gas milage. We're used to a cheapy 3 burner with a 4kg LPG tank (Australia) but these all seem to just run the puny 450g propane tanks. If you're off camping for a week cooking well for 2 people and boiling water for showers as well, how long does one of those tanks last?

Hard to say because everyone uses them differently…but they are pretty efficient. One canister generally lasts us 6-10 meals. On a week long trip I might use two canisters. You can get an attachment hose for larger propane tanks too.

I’ve had mine for many years and worked well for many years but regulator died which is a common problem and now the 2nd burner catches on fire if I try to use it which has rendered it useless.
Great burner but maybe not the longevity you would expect for an expensive stove and you probably want to get a spare regulator preferably from another company

I’ve never chained it with other burners, so sadly I can’t offer any insight there. You might ask Brad/Regina from @Trailrecon or Casey from @casey250 as they both use this stove as well. Another idea would be to pose the question on TrailRecon’s Facebook group, newbie Overlanders FB group, or even the Overlanding USA group. I bet you’d find someone who could give you insights there.

I am guessing with a hose you can connect the stove to a 10 or 20lb propane bottle. Do you need an additional regulator?
Jetboil sells a 20lb hose, and I don't see a regulator attached. I've never done that as I don't bring that big of a tank.

Yes it can, you just have to get a connector hose.
How long does the gas last on a regular tank of propane?
I don’t have an exact answer, but one is easily enough for a weekend trip.
Good review. I liked seeing how the large skillet fit on there. We have the uncentered issue with our cast iron on our camp stove.
Definitely an expensive stove. I kinda want one but just haven't been able to make myself pull the trigger on it because of the price. I really like the ability to connect a 3rd burner. That would become the coffee/hot water burner. I suspect I'll end up with it eventually. 🤷♂️🤠
We did get ours on sale, which helped a little. We are loving the cast iron grill/griddle because there's still plenty of room to have a full sized pot. On the 3rd burner. We considered it..but just wound up buying a Jetboil Flash. Takes up less room, boils SUPER fast for coffee, and we don't need to get whole stove out in the morning to make coffee.
Get the Naturehike double burner. I got one for $62 it's compact and does a great job for so much less money. I saw ebikecnx7239 video then got one too. Very happy with it.
How was the durability? I hear the fuel regulator goes bad quick
So far we've not had any issues at all, including the regulators. We've used it steadily over the last 18 months or so in each season at different elevations and, so far at least, nothing has broken. Maybe on this next trip it will go kaput lol...but so far so good.
Hey brother, do you still find this as a favorite or have you moved on? I ask because i just bought a Everest 2X whoch i plan on keeping for normal camp weekends at one spot because i like that its huge and double the burner power while habing great simmer control. I am thinking of this for the overland type trips where space and quick set up is critical.
Yep - I still use it and love it. It's been solid. I think I cleaned it once..but other than that, I haven't touched it in terms of maintenance and it works every time. I still hate the wind screen..but I just never use it.
When Coleman hits the market @ $65 for their 'fold-n-go' I agree... way too much $$ for what it is. I saw it as low as $209 today, but not someone I would buy from...
IMO - The fold and go is not the same as the Jetboil...BUT is the Jetboil worth 4X the $$$? Probably not, but at least it's a really good stove. Mine is still going strong.

At a $400 price point and a need to constantly buy gas, I bought a solar generator with a solar panel and use electric appliances.
That sounds like a good fix...how much was the solar generator and appliances compared to this stove?
i own it....u have so much temp control. quick boil liquids, like 1.5 gal is around 3-4mins its faster than at home.

@@Venture2Roam i precooked bacon, premade the pancakes in a plastic bottle, and a few easy to reheat meals, took it on a 5 day music festival and i ate mushrooms for those 5 days and nothing i cooked took longer than 10 mins. used the Cuisinart petite grill and nothing i cooked took less than 20 mins and i sold the grill once i tested jetboil.

My $40 simple green Coleman 2 burner stove from Walmart has been absolutely fantastic for me for over 5 years. Out of the box the flame control sucks but it's an easy fix to lube up the rubber o-rings and you get all the fine control you will ever need to cook the most gourmet dinner you want. ... and ummmmm... IT WAS $40!!!!!!!!
Brilliant move on the O-ring fix. Our first stove was $25 on sale and it still works. While I don’t regret buying the Genesis, it’s not for everyone.
I've owned some Jetboil backpacking stoves. Those were good. This overland thing is pricey though. Johnson also sells those cool Eureka Spark+ stoves that run on butane. I'm not paying $200+ when I can buy a Blackstone for half that and have far more fun..
I want an extension hose for this. The one I bought from Amazon burnt out the brass regulator. Are there any other hoses that replace the brass regulator?

Ooohhhh. Now I understand. No. We opted to only get the stove because we have a very specific cooking set up and did not want the extra bulk that the stock pot and pan created. We did have a Jetboil fry pan for a bit, and it was OK, but we prefer GSI and MSR for higher quality cookware that packs down smaller.

So far I’m giving the stove is zero it will not lite out of the box I’ve done everything it says and I can’t detect any gas flow whatsoever I adjusted the control knob back-and-forth several times and nothing have any ideas.
That’s strange. I know on mine it takes a few turns of the knob to get enough gas flow to start…but if you’re not getting any gas coming through, I’d think about returning it for another one.

Worth $99 at best. There are many more quality Japanese gears cheaper than this like Snowpeak and their products are high end unlike jetboil
I don't like the price either. That said, ours is still going strong with a lot of use/abuse. I'll take a look at snopeak, thanks for the suggestion.

I’ve owned three of these piece of junk after the third or fourth time cooking on them. They stopped working. Don’t get ripped off stay away from this correct there’s a serious problem with these the regulator stops the propane for the money you pay for this. It’s a joke garbage
