I've had this stove kit for a couple years now. The fuel regulator failed early on (common problem with these) and their service people (Johnson Outdoors) replaced one free then I bought a 2nd backup regulator because if your stove doesn't work in the middle of nowhere you're going to be hungry as I learned. The plastic wind screen does help with the wind but It's not a great design and I rarely use it. You can add it on after you have already started cooking when needed. The main cooking pot is way too big for most meals but great for washing dishes in. I wish the frying pan was thicker and heavier on the bottom but it has worked just fine so far and is easy to clean but it would warp if you let it overheat. The big advantages are the packed size of the whole kit and the micro adjustments on the flame. I didn't consider when you setup camp its nice to just leave your stove out on a table all setup and at this price you are going to put this away every time you leave camp but with my old Coleman (still works) its much easier to leave out without worry about it walking away. Another important thing I didn't consider is the Jetboil pots also have maximum BTU ratings or they will warp so if your stove fails you can't build a fire and use them on it. It's hard to go back to the Coleman after using this however because you realize how terrible the flame adjustment is (all or nothing). The Jetboil cooks much hotter and also simmers better than the Coleman. All this said I do like the stove but if I did it all over again I might just use the older, more basic but reliable Coleman and be happy with what I had knowing it's just a stove in the end and most camp meals aren't really that gourmet anyway. There is always something shiny and new but do you really need it? I don't think I did but since I have it I use it.
You just convinced me to keep using my 80$ Coleman 2 burner that I leave out on the table and nobody will steal it, it does what it needs to do and I save 500$
The failed regulator issue, as you said, is not uncommon. The solution to simply send you a replacement of the same flawed regulator is unacceptable for a $500 item. When a new, reliable regulator is added to this package, I will definitely get one.
Overlanding Arctic water shed. For 500.00 bucks I'll wait 2 or three more minutes for my water to boil,I'm not in a race, I'm overland camping, read take life slow enjoy the views etc. My old two burner I've had since the late 1970's or early 80's works fantastic and doesn't rattle when packed away...at least I haven't noticed it....so more than good enough for all these years.
Hey Casey. Bought this stove three years ago. Have had five or six others over the years and have to say that this is the BEST! Even though the frying pan doesn't look like much, it is also very good. The fact that all the pieces fit together in one bag make it a very convenient solution . Now, the flimsy piece of plastic...once you get used to putting it on, it does do quite a decent job of wind deflection. My biggest reason (besides the compact design) for trying this stove was their claim that it will hold a simmer. IT DOES, better than any stove I have used over the last four decades and then some. The fins around the base of the Jetboil pot increases the surface area of metal to conduct the burner's heat into your water. The increased efficiency is significant as you showed in your test. However, your standard kitchen pot was undoubtedly heavier so you also needed to heat up more mass to get the water to boil. To maximize efficiency, the Jetboil pot would be the best choice...while emptying your wallet. Your Jetboil burns propane gas, not the pressurized liquid in the canister. As you use your burner, the propane changes phase from liquid to gas. This phase change causes the canister to freeze especially on cold days. For my frequent mountaineering and snow camping trips, I immerse my fuel canister in a small bowl of water. The extra heat capacity of the water will prolong the time it takes for the canister to freeze. While this is more of an issue with the standard mixed gas, backpacking fuel canisters, cooling will eventually reduce the gas pressure inside your propane canister as well, reducing the heat your burner generates. Again, this is more of a problem with mountaineering or snow camping where you must melt snow for water, but even when overlanding, placing the canister in a bowl of water will help maximize the gas pressure, increase maximum heat output, and allow you to fully empty the canister.
Wife and I bought ourselves one of these and its compact size and easy quick deployment along with the nice simmer control makes it a win in my book. It has been great so far.
I also bought one a year ago and love it. It’s great that it all fits together in a small package I also like the you can adjust the flame more and not burn things your cooking. It is a bit pricey but I did get it on sale so that helped justify my purchase.
Best one coleman 424 burning fuel i have been using for years . Propane is a problem in cold and you can find fuel everywhere . Coleman has a wind protector
The conclusion is: use finned, covered and insulated pots and it doesn't matter what stove you are using. That should be the lesson. Already seen DIY approach to make these kind of pots and it is really promising approach!
I have this stove and truly enjoy using it. I do Strongly encourage anybody who purchased this stove to buy a 5 pound tank to use with it because it’s a lot cheaper to refill than using the overprice Coleman propane tanks.

Love how in-depth and detailed this review is!! I thought jetboil doesn’t need wind guard since it shoots “jet”... since i already have normal non-stick pot sets might just go with the stove alone. Good compact unit to substitute my melted Coleman😂
I just got a coleman fold n' go for Christmas. Thanks mum and dad! They were on sale at Walmart for $99CAD. A very similar platform. The few benefits of a jet boil system don't outweigh the price tag to me. Besides I have been hearing there are a lot of issues with the jetboil stove which are not prevalent with the coleman. Coleman has been doing vamp stoves for a long time, and they are known for lasting. The one easily fixable issue with the coleman fold n' go is the simmer control. The knobs tend to not stay exactly where you set them. A simple set screw removes the knobs and a thin piece of material such as leather can be placed over the shaft and provides a slight friction, completely remedying the issue
Hey Casey, I looked at these when they first came out and was really toying with buying one but man the cost. Regardless this was the best video demonstrating the genesis that I have seen to date well done bud !!
Just FYI a couple of things. 1. The current models of this kit come with cookware that has ceramic non stick coating. On pot/pan non-stick coatings.... Teflon is the older type that wears out quickly, where ceramic coatings are more expensive but longer lasting. So though more expensive, the ceramic coatings will be in your better quality cookware and Teflon in your cheap budget gear. 2. On the propane tank... if the propane temperature drops below -44F the gas turns to liquid. As you are releasing the gas the temperature drops because of the release of heat that occurs during the evaporation process from liquid to gas. And propane needs to be in gaseous form to burn, so if the regulator gets too cold from that evaporating heat loss it looses efficiency or stops working. I would be curious to see if you had a instant read thermometer (like used in cooking) to check the regulator temp as you use it to see if that is what might be occurring. 3. On other brands: I myself use MSR equipment. What I have are stoves that run on multiple liquid fuels (white gas, gasoline, kerosene) such as my Dragonfly, and Whisperlight stoves. White gas can burn down to very cold temperatures. They compact fairly well, and they can operate in sub -44F temperatures (I live in Alaska). Though MSR makes similar products to the Jetboil I personally prefer MSR as I have had such good luck with them in the past. I have been using my Whisperlite stove without any issues now since the mid 1990's (think I bought it in 95). MSR also sells maintenance and repair kits for their stoves, so you can repair or maintain them in the field if something comes up. Other than that, great video! And thanks for the initial review.
I still have and use my old Svea white gas backpacking stove I bought in the 70’. Keep the jet clean, run clean fuel, and it fires up and works regardless of how cold it gets. I’ve seen folks who had to sleep with their cylinders in their sleeping bag so they could run their stove in the morning. At my age, if my Svea ever quits working, I probable will be getting old enough I need to stay home 😉.

14 minutes -regarding freezing, never had issues with mine, having a pot/pan next to the propane pushed enough heat out to freeze over despite almost freezing temps outside (high valley deserts though, maybe humidity is a factor?).. good review though 👌
Great cook system and great size, but I often need 2 frying pans or 1 pan and a coffee pot or a griddle so I have to pass on the jetboil pot set as I still have to carry cookware.
Nice review. I'm more interested in backpacking gear now, so this system would add 10+ pounds --- a no go for that purpose. But I appreciate your review. I've read reviews from others and fuel regulators failing seems to be just about as common as other more generic options. Dependability would be the only reason to pay 2-3x more for cost, because you don't want it to fail when needed. And recommending possibly skipping the pot/pan for save $200 is probably wise. This product would take more of a niche market I would assume, and once you're talking about hauling it in the car anyway, all the options are opened up. The price tag alone scares me away. I just don't see the added "value" being worthwhile compared to added "price." For backpacking I use Esbit tabs and 1.8L GSI pot, which along with the stove, is well under a pound.
We went all in and use every day for two months. It boils fast!! We really like it however the plastic lid melted and the orange handles melted off too. Pots are just not durable. I wish they were just plan stainless still or cast iron.

In North America you can now get reusable 1 lb propane cylinders that you can refill from a 35-45 lb capacity liquid withdrawal cylinder. The liquid withdrawal cylinders are ~2X the cost of a gas withdrawal cylinder. If you use the 1 lb propane cylinders a lot these will save you a bit of money and you will no longer need to make special arrangements to dispose of the used up single use bottles. Were I am the fine for placing one in the home trash or recycling is $100 so I have to take them to the waste transfer station 15 miles from home.

Thank you! You tried to let us know real information on how long it can run and how fast it goes through a tank. I have never seen another TH-camr even consider that information. In all my 40+ years, I have never given a single shit about how long it takes a burner to bring water to a boil. I have cared about how efficiently it could, though. I can boil a gallon in 2 secs if you give me 12,000 gallons of jet fuel. But that’s not realistic. Knowing how many green tanks to take on a trip is VERY important. Thanks again. Please address in a future video how many tanks you go through in a trip.
Hey Loke, 100% if you can pack less and cook the same or more, there is the win... I honestly think the efficiency comes from the pot. The way it directs the fire for dissipation of the heat is where it excels. Also if there was a test on just a standard pot on both you would see that, could be wrong but it's what it looks like.

I don't own this stove but I have have owned a few Jetboil Flashes over the years and still do. My thoughts are that Jetboil products are way overpriced for the quality and materials used. Having said that, they do outperform other stoves. I bought a knock off Jetboil Flash and the boil time was double. When you buy Jetboil, you pay for the name but also the R&D put into the product. I just wish Jetboil would use the technology they have and put it into a higher quality product.
This morning I was at Walmart and saw a Coleman stove very similar to the one you bought it was 59$ only, maybe not as good but very similar ,I wondering why yours was so expensive if the BTU are similar to the others the price asked for it is not resonnable and not worth it.
Compactness and portability. Hopefully longevity. Having everything I need to cook in a compact bag and no squeeks or rattles. Its an expesivr stove but hopefully the last one I buy. The $60 colemans seem to be disposable if your a frequent camper.

Interesting. A nice looking product. Company Bean Counter, "How much can we charge for this Stove?" Marketing, "What the Market is prepared to tolerate. Remember, we also have our 'Brand Name'." $500.00 to inter alia, reduce 'rattles in the back of the truck' when the 'handy cloth' can do this? Naaah .. don't think so.
We just had a brand new genesis fail us in the way out Everglades back country. We cooked on an illegal fire for 4 days which was no problem, but that’s a piece of equipment that will never grace my camp again. Heavy, expensive, crap windscreen, and unreliable.
This just seems like a 500 dollar gimmick that does the same thing any other camp stove does, but only marginally better. I mean you can pick up a decent camp stove on sale for a lot less than what this sells for, and with better wind screens, and other features. The compact feature might be nice if you're taking this to Everest Base Camp or somewhere but for car camping there's a lot out there that will do the job basically just as well but for a lot less money.
Fast boil hype. Made for who? If you are average backpacker (not a ultrarunner in competition), you have least 8 hour in every day for make meals. Good simmer make good meal maker. From thermos bottle you get hot water at once.

After removing the grills for cleaning, you can also unscrew the burners and the aluminum pan can be fully removed for easiest cleaning.

Have you seen the new grill grate for this stove? Has flat grill plate and grate side, just saying why not make it 560 dollar set up...

Thank you! You tried to let us know real information on how long it can run and how fast it goes through a tank. I have never seen another TH-camr even consider that information. In all my 40+ years, I have never given a single shit about how long it takes a burner to bring water to a boil. I have cared about how efficiently it could, though. I can boil a gallon in 2 secs if you give me 12,000 gallons of jet fuel. But that’s not realistic. Knowing how many green tanks to take on a trip is VERY important. Thanks again. Please address in a future video how many tanks you go through in a trip.
Hey Loke, 100% if you can pack less and cook the same or more, there is the win... I honestly think the efficiency comes from the pot. The way it directs the fire for dissipation of the heat is where it excels. Also if there was a test on just a standard pot on both you would see that, could be wrong but it's what it looks like.

That's the problem with propane when its cold. Tough to use.

The Colman gladiator is a far better camp stove for a fraction of the price.

I don't own this stove but I have have owned a few Jetboil Flashes over the years and still do. My thoughts are that Jetboil products are way overpriced for the quality and materials used. Having said that, they do outperform other stoves. I bought a knock off Jetboil Flash and the boil time was double. When you buy Jetboil, you pay for the name but also the R&D put into the product. I just wish Jetboil would use the technology they have and put it into a higher quality product.

This morning I was at Walmart and saw a Coleman stove very similar to the one you bought it was 59$ only, maybe not as good but very similar ,I wondering why yours was so expensive if the BTU are similar to the others the price asked for it is not resonnable and not worth it.
Compactness and portability. Hopefully longevity. Having everything I need to cook in a compact bag and no squeeks or rattles. Its an expesivr stove but hopefully the last one I buy. The $60 colemans seem to be disposable if your a frequent camper.

We just had a brand new genesis fail us in the way out Everglades back country. We cooked on an illegal fire for 4 days which was no problem, but that’s a piece of equipment that will never grace my camp again. Heavy, expensive, crap windscreen, and unreliable.

Love the stove. I picked up a small foldable wind guard I throw in the bag with it to replace that plastic piece. I've used it dozens of times now.

This just seems like a 500 dollar gimmick that does the same thing any other camp stove does, but only marginally better. I mean you can pick up a decent camp stove on sale for a lot less than what this sells for, and with better wind screens, and other features. The compact feature might be nice if you're taking this to Everest Base Camp or somewhere but for car camping there's a lot out there that will do the job basically just as well but for a lot less money.

Fast boil hype. Made for who? If you are average backpacker (not a ultrarunner in competition), you have least 8 hour in every day for make meals. Good simmer make good meal maker. From thermos bottle you get hot water at once.
